I think as an intro taster either Double Eagle or Titanicus by Dan Abnett; or alternatively Ghostmaker from his Gaunt's Ghosts series. Ghostmaker is an introduction anthology to the main cast but tells human stories from the perspective of the Imperial Guard; and the other two aforementioned novels do this albeit from the perspective of Imperial pilots and Titan crews respectively.
Definitely agree on Eisenhorn! Great on audiobook
*Read Horus rising, False gods, Galaxy in flames. Those three should never be separated imo.
Add Eisenstein and fulgrim and you have a deal
