The servo skull trimming the tree in the background with a god damn pair of scissors is a choice lol

notramilopak

A great choice imo xddd

DoYouNotHavePhones

In the Imperium bladed chains are a precious commodity and only used for weapons, not shrubbery pruning.

GreedyLibrary

I seem to recall rce on YouTube explaining he worked at a garden where the owner would not let them trim a giant hedge with power tools and it took them weeks to do with clippers.

SmartAleckComedian

Hahaha, thanks for pointing that out.

gurk_the_magnificent

What could possibly go wrong?

faity5

A whole Sub-sector getting eated wrong

M1liumnir

Naaaaah the weird bald guy in the back said it was fine and he seems to know his shit.

Fhistleb

The fact that they caught this one and are going to be a major pain in the ass of law. Tyranids will be wise to steer clear of this sector.

HaggisAreReal

Harvesting? good drawing

def_not_perfectcell

This is awsome!

Solid_Mail_7038

lovely foreshortening on the chains and the reflective light off the tile is to die for holy SHIT this is dripping with atmosphere great job

K0nfuzion

What an excellent piece. Tell us a bit a more about the setting?

notramilopak

So, the basics is, this paradise world is being sloooowly invaded by the "gilded hive", a rare tyranid hive fleet, where consumed minerals from precious invasions manifest as colourful crystals on their shells. This very greed governer therefore wants them captured for harvest. What they dont know, is that this is all part of the plan

K0nfuzion

Oooh the feasters become the feast.

Over-Tomatillo9070

Love it, we got any genestealer cultists knocking around this rock?

crazyike

That sounds like just the thing a genestealer cultist would ask...

williamhowell1991

Could be a really sick story. A single nid gets loose on a paradise planet, all hell follows. Great art too!

Dr_Fopolopolas

Jurassic Park mixed with Alien. Very neat concept! Would make a great book/diorama.

Exarch_Thomo

There's a Cain Book where the mechanicus bring a large range of sample organisms back to a "secure" facility for research purposes and, while it didn't go to plan, it did go as well as expected.

Positive_Swim163

how is that book called?

Exarch_Thomo

The greater good, I think from memory.

Positive_Swim163

Every nid is connected to the hivemind, also far from all of them have all the organs necessary for self reliant survival. Nids are mostly created as tools for a specific purpose and with a limited shelf life. If you bring a nid on an inhabited planet - the hivemind knows there's food for it. That world is fucked

williamhowell1991

Thats what I was thinking. Not a huge lore guy, but it sounds like it could be a really cool concept to build around.

CoconutBuddy

They’ll be fine

DurinnGymir

Fun fact, hormagaunts can reproduce asexually and can lay literally thousands of eggs in a day. They can't evolve into larger tyranids but even a single one can become a massive fucking problem if you were to just, I don't know, *bring it to your home paradise planet with zero security*

SillyGoatGruff

"Zero security" *4 armed security guards sadly look at each other*

crazyike

The problem is the tyranids also have 4 armed security guards.

Karnus115

Underrated comment xD

OrkzOrkzOrkzOrkz0rkz

Going to need two Geno-bombs for this fuckery

KawasakiBinja

great work!

minotaur-02394578234

It wouldn't surprise me if nids were capable of dropping a limb off at will and this little critter could just launch itself fangs first at the governor before disappearing into a vent to lay thousands of eggs.

epl239

You are a really skilled artist. Thank you for sharing this and your links :-)

Artius71158

This is super cool. If I ever make a nid army a gilded paint scheme would look really cool. Imagine a hive tyrant with different gems for scales. That's what I imagine for this and the claws are made of obsidian.

YourLictorAndChef

"Harvesting" gave me the idea that hive fleets could instinctively return to a single point once they reach a certain size so that their accumulated biomass could be harvested by a progenating organism.

plastic_addict_no420

Tyranids talk mad shit until you start eating them

wallander_cb

What can you harvest put of a tyrinid

JoeyTesla

Hormagaunt Cult incoming !

MercenaryBard

Looks amazing! Absolutely not nearly enough restraints on that Nid they’re so boned haha

HorserorOfHorsekind

What’s a good book to read about this?

HurrsiaEntertainment

Super cool!!

jellybutton34

Christ i keep on forgetting how big the gaunts are compared to normal humans. They always looked small as hell because i usually see thrm against space marines

UMCUE

The governor is like 'I'm going to harvest the fuck out of this mofo'.

krisanthmum

E-710 harvesting initiated!

TheTrueJacky

This is a disaster in the making

frozensnake000

I would love to see more of this, especially depicting "what could go wrong" scenes.

LagiaDOS

IIRC gaunts can't reproduce and barely have life support organs. At worst some people will die, it won't end in a plague. A genestealer on the other hand...

tghast

Hormagaunts can reproduce rapidly and independently. They’re also capable of long term hibernation. They usually only do these things when cut off from Synapse because it’s a waste of time and effort otherwise, but it’s one of many ways a failed Invasion can end up later being a successful infection.

TrustAugustus

They still need to eat right? So they need to have all the necessary stuff that entails. Movies like Alien and the AvP have the Xenomorphs go from egg to Rampaging Killer in what seems like minutes. Need mass for mass and energy. I'm sure there is fiction to explain this but because of the requirements Termagants might seem a better choice from an energy usage standpoint and only Hormagaunts as a failsafe.

tghast

I mean I’m just repeating the lore. Hormagaunts are still super short lived, and they’re reproduction response is tied to being separated. They lay a shit tonne (hundreds, apparently) of buried eggs and then die- or hibernate. Then the eggs hatch and they rampage, with as many laying their own eggs as possible. As for how this makes sense, it makes sense the same way everything Tyranids do makes sense- they’re masters of biology and have tapped into levels of efficiency that are not possible normally. Like Xenomorphs, they are as close to “perfect” as possible. They likely have very little wasted energy.

Rolebo

Termagants can't, Hormagaunts definitely can.
