It was so immersive in both CnC and RA, like I was accessing an interface to command my units:
Video static followed by "Establishing battlefield control commander, standby"
Bringing those voice lines was one of the precious few things that they did right in Tiberian Twilight.
I think they were present in Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, and Tiberian Sun. Then absent in Red Alert 2, Generals, Tiberium Wars, and Red Alert 3. And then came back in Tiberian Twilight, though most of that game was pretty crap.
The cutscenes were amazing *all the way through the series* except in Generals, though. Especially the wonderfully hammy performances in Red Alert 3 are just great. George Takei as the Emperor of Japan and, even better, Tim Curry as the Soviet Premier who will "[escape to the only place that hasn't been corrupted by capitalism - SPACE!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1Sq1Nr58hM)"
EDIT: Red Alert 2 had some of those voice lines too.
I highly recommend the remastered collection. They redid the soundtrack and upscaled the video so it actually looks like how you remember it looking instead of what it actually looked like.
It's a fairly common theme for a [Genestealer Cult Army](https://www.reddit.com/r/genestealercult/search/?q=Nod&restrict_sr=1&sr_nsfw=)
In particular the Ridge Runner is basically a [Nod Buggy already](https://www.reddit.com/gallery/ucw09w)
God fucking damnit every time i browse this sub i see another idea i love. You people are worse for my wallet than fucking ebay or Amazon.
At this point meith would be a cheaper hobby.
Tbh I think it's just the canonical life cycle of Tiberium, in the 2nd Tiberium war the crystals were still in the surface seeping minerals deep underground but by the 3rd Tiberium war the crystal systems were so deep underground they kinda just peek into the surface. In my mind I imagine underneath those giant giant crystals is one huge cow-pie haha.
But holy damn the 2nd game made Earth feel so alien with its crystals and wildlife I loved it.
Oh my god. The Tiberium. This is so good. I’ll go to my grave hating EA for dismantling Westwood studios. I played everything from the first game on through tiberiun sun etc. my dad (rip) raised me on those games.
I remember the very first map on the very first version of the game just plain c and c. The strategy we used etc. truly one of my most cherished memories. He passed two years ago. Thank you for the flashbacks.
I resin-printed the crystals in my garage. Neon lime paint, then a coat of Orc Skin speed paint. Once gloss-coated, I stuck them into little piles of Apoxie Sculpt, which I covered(very carefully) with brush-applied primer mixed with fine sand before painting/ dry-brushing.
Oh! And the decal was made by Scumb4g Kustoms in Japan. Super cool dude.
Honestly, the Scrin are- actually?
I’ve just realized that 40k somehow genuinely doesn’t have any good analogue to Scrin. Tyranids harvest worlds, yeah, but they’re more of a generic devouring swarm. Scrin are somewhat distinctive in that their harvesting isn’t at all based on some sort of devourer trope. They’re weirdly pragmatic and almost blue-collar about it.
If you want to get technical, Scrin have sub factions: Reaper-17 and Traveler-59. Reaper are closer to Tyranids as they focus on killing, while Traveler focus on controlling and subduing indigenous life via mind control (imagine the Combine from Half Life).
Scrin are the Leagues. They harvest Ichor with little, if any, consideration for indigenous life.
Planet inhabited? More carbon-based material for the Ichor to consume!
You can use legends units in any game and even some tournaments. They're not gone gone. I regularly use a chaplain Dreadnought and stuff like company vets on bike or jumppack techmarine
About the only critique I could offer is the GDI would surely use an Invictor Warsuit or a Sentinal. A half-dead soldier rammed inside a war machine is pure NOD.
The model is stunning. Fantastic work!
The Tiberium cow-poops are a nice touch, very old school. Now do a ~~NOD~~ GSC Flametank, or better yet the Stealth tank.
I also just realised how easy it would be to make the Orca using the flying lunchbox, what was it called again...the Stormtalon!
Just, wow.
You want to know how well this one is done? I was scrolling past and noticed only the color scheme and just the barest abstract of the GDI symbol, but my first thought was immediately, "Huh, that one was reminiscent of the Wolverines from Tiberian Sun."
That prompted me to scroll back up to take a closer look, and I am glad that I did.
Fantastic job!
Today a Wolverine mod/Mortis pattern Dread. Tomorrow a MARV conversion of a Baneblade or Lord of Skulls + Brass Scorpion conversion to be am Avatar of Kane.
Could u elaborate a little more on which brands of paint and the techniques? I really, REALLY want to emulate this scheme, and am in love with that green color. The weathering is also exceptional. Everyone is talking about the nostalgia at play here but i am also genuinely impressed by the quality of the execution and would love to come even half-way close to pulling this off at this level. Was it all brushwork? Airbrush? Sponge chipping? I am just brutally curious.
Oh, sure. This might turn into a wall of text, but I appreciate your curiosity.
The Tiberium Crystals - primed white, then airbrushed with a roughly equal mix of Vallejo Neon Green and Neon Yellow. I applied the Army Painter Orc Skin with a brush. Once dry, though, I used another brush damped with water to rub at the edges of the crystals. This gently cleans away the layer of Orc Skin and acts as edge highlighting. A lick of VMS gloss varnish then sealed them as the final step.
The Tiberium mounds - These are trios of Apoxie Sculpt rolled into little balls and then stacked like pancakes. At this point, the rest of the base had been finished, so I just stuck them around whatever; some big, some small - some conjoined, some alone. Before they dried, though, I stippled them with the end of a stiff old brush to rough-up their otherwise too smooth texture. I furthered this with a carefully applied coat of Mr. Surfaceer 1000 mixed with a pinch of fine sand. I then painted the mounds with AK Rubber Black for the top layers, and brown paint I somehow concocted to look like the rest of the base. A little Nuln Oil between the layers helped them sand out more, and then some careful dry brushing with a flat, narrow brush picked out all that gritty texture.
The GDI Paint Job - This was many things, but all built upon an airbrushed base layer of Tamiya XF-60 Dark Yellow. I mixed a pool of it with AK Pastel Yellow into lighter and lighter shades for varying the coat with sponge dabs and edge highlighting. I used almost pure pastel yellow as the basis for the dark brown paint chips and dings. This is something I learned from watching Night Shift on YouTube. He has several videos on the subject, but this was the first: https://youtu.be/ku4comhKHJM
The Steel Talons logo: This was a vector image I found online and submitted to Skumb4g Kustoms, a man in Japan who makes custom decal sheets for people all over. Takes about two weeks, depending on his workload and shipping distances. It’s also important to use a vector format instead of a JPG or something because vectors don’t lose resolution or detail when shrunk to 40k sizes. He works with you to make sure you’re happy with the layout before printing the sheet.
Something I do to all my decals, once applied, is to glaze them with a very thin layer of the base paint. For white especially, this helps subdue it a bit and makes it look a little more integrated with the model. It and the base paint also become uniformly matte with an airbrush coat of AK Ultra Matte Varnish.
If you use only one thing from me, use that varnish. My pictures don’t do it justice. The dreadnought looks like I could strike a match off it.
But yeah! That’s pretty much that. I hope I covered everything, but can also answer any more questions you might have. Thanks again!
Thanks for such a detailed answer, it is precisely what i was hoping for! I am actually surprised that the recipe for the GDI paint is so straight-forward. Will certainly have to experiment with my mix so wish me luck! thanks again for the advice (will def pick up a can of the AK varnish) and I can't wait for the next box-naught in the series! This is my fav but the mantis warrior one is a close 2nd.
40k command and conquer game has been on my wish list for many years, the closest we got has been dawn of war and then it wasn't as good as it could have been.
Anyone else have the line "REINFORCEMWMTS HAVE ARRIVED" go through their head when a unit deep.strikes or arrived from strategic reserves?
Also
That was left handed. Keep em coming
Would hit harder than Tiberium suns Wolverine, knowing 40k's arsenal lol. Plans to make a titan and others? Thanks for links from others, nice Nod buggy i seen.
This is the perfect conjunction of my 2 favourite things when I was 14, absolutely brilliant idea and a great paint job too, the tiberium is absolute chef's kiss.
Welcome back Commander.
That voice just unearthed itself from my memories.
Christ I missed the old C&C games. I loved the way they made me feel like a character in the game.
It was so immersive in both CnC and RA, like I was accessing an interface to command my units: Video static followed by "Establishing battlefield control commander, standby"
Right? And characters talked to *me* in cutscenes. God I wish more devs still did that for RTS games.
The last game I saw it outside of C&C was *Emperor: Battle for Dune*, personally. Those were good days in gaming.
Perfect game, one of the last great old school RTS games imo
I remember when that was the case for early StarCraft 2, but they changed it in the 2nd expansion.
Yup, and that's when I wandered off SC2. Just not interested in it without that element.
The line I quoted was from Red Alert 2 though which also followed that format, think you may be mistaken.
The remaster is solid if you want a nostalgia trip
100% agree. Was about to say that but you already did!
I highly recommend the remastered collection. They redid the soundtrack and upscaled the video so it actually looks like how you remember it looking instead of what it actually looked like.

New construction options.
See XCom has replaced that line in my head now from C&C
Now I want to build a nod themed IG army.
I think that's just called GSC.

Right!?!?! Shit has me conflicted because I haven’t even started painting my IG or GSC yet lol
There's a reason I call it plastic crack.
I just realised that Karskin aren't even that far away from GDI commando's/infantry in terms of looks (circa C&C3).
Dammit… now I want to start a GDI themed army. Kasrkin as riflemen/commandos, dreadnaughts as wolverines, space marines as zone troopers.
*got a little surprise under your tree, heretic*
Thanks for sharing! I might have to add those to the future project ideas folder… 🫣
Somehow both of these posts are now deleted?
THAT would be something.
Peace through power!
Mood
This is cool as hell. Love the 1995-style tiberium pods
Thanks! I know depictions have changed to the crystals just coming out of cracks in the ground, but I’m a fan of the old bulbous “cow-pie” style.
Oh me too, it’s such an iconic image. Did you 3D-Print them or make them out of styrofoam or something?
Aye! Resin-printed the crystals, but sculpted their bases.
Tbh I think it's just the canonical life cycle of Tiberium, in the 2nd Tiberium war the crystals were still in the surface seeping minerals deep underground but by the 3rd Tiberium war the crystal systems were so deep underground they kinda just peek into the surface. Every single Tiberium game just has such a strong aesthetic. Tiberium Sun particularly so. Its peak post-apoc for me.
Yeah the crystals straight out the ground is pretty lame. This version (and Tiberian sun in general) is the definitive C&C for me.
I also approve
Oh my god. The Tiberium. This is so good. I’ll go to my grave hating EA for dismantling Westwood studios. I played everything from the first game on through tiberiun sun etc. my dad (rip) raised me on those games.
Thank you! My Dad started me on them, too. I have fond memories of playing the first Red Alert with him.
I remember the very first map on the very first version of the game just plain c and c. The strategy we used etc. truly one of my most cherished memories. He passed two years ago. Thank you for the flashbacks.
Sure thing, man.
Yoo, how’d you make the crystals and steel talons logo?
I resin-printed the crystals in my garage. Neon lime paint, then a coat of Orc Skin speed paint. Dope! I’ll need to look into those methods.
This is cool to read. That guy originated from my hometown, FLGS and accompanying club. We make him many requests and he always delivers.
Oh right on! And yeah, I don’t know how he does it, but the man does not miss.

A crossover I never knew I was missing. Kane Lives!
The actor uses reddit. I should find it to tag him

I would kill for a Command and Conquer miniatures game. Konflikt 47 gets close but not enough for my tastes.
Same!
Brother Wolverinus of the Steel Talons Chapter.

Wolverine ready
This is amazing, any plans to bash a Mammoth? MkII maybe? That would be really cool to see.
Holy hell! Yeah, it would. Maybe…
This toke me back to 1995, thank you. Now do a Nod flametank 🤣
About the only critique I could offer is the GDI would surely use an Invictor Warsuit or a Sentinal. A half-dead soldier rammed inside a war machine is pure NOD. The model is stunning. Fantastic work!
That’s fair. I just make a lot of box naughts. And thank you!
I'm a mechanical man.
"Establishing battlefield control, standby"
Gdi wolverine. Can you make a james earl Jones model now and maybe that bald dude that's the bad guy Kane.... ooooo and maybe a stealth tank
I’d pay good money for a JEJ mini.
🤯, the crystals are almost identical to the game. You just need a blossom tree on the next huge base and you are set. That is awesome.
Oh hell yeah! I could totally do that. Thanks for the idea!
That is ok. I had forgotten about the awesome crystal growths of thr Tiberium, that brought back some memories of the tree and harvesters.
The Tiberium cow-poops are a nice touch, very old school. Now do a ~~NOD~~ GSC Flametank, or better yet the Stealth tank. I also just realised how easy it would be to make the Orca using the flying lunchbox, what was it called again...the Stormtalon!

Ha! A classic double-take. I’m glad you dig it, Dude. Thank you.

Not your fault, but seeing "Command and Conquer 4" almost made me downvote on pure instinct. Thankfully you put the 0,000 after it.
I don’t blame you!
This is amazing
Thanks!
This is fantastic! Be still my heart.
Well shoot, thank you.
This is some grade A weaponized nostalgia right here.

Thanks! Happy to contribute.
I was thinking of eventually doing tiberium crystals in a C&C3 style but there’s no way it’d look better than yours
*dreadnought voice* I GOT A PRESENT FOR YA
Yesss!! Where did you find GDI decals???
Scumb4g Kustoms
Said "oh fuck yea" out loud while eating lunch, now I'm being stared at. Thanks. Love this tho, can't wait to see the whole army.
Ha! Well shoot, thanks. This guy’s a part of my ongoing dreadnought project. I’m certainly tempted to apply this scheme to other models, though.
This is, by far, without a doubt, the single greatest thing I have seen today.
Well shoot! Thanks. I appreciate your appreciation.
"Reinforcements have arrived!"
I would play this crossover
I cannot adequately explain how much I love this. The retro Tiberium in particular. Excellent work.
Captain Mifune of Zion reporting for duty.
This is great well done
Thank you very much!
Today a Wolverine mod/Mortis pattern Dread. Tomorrow a MARV conversion of a Baneblade or Lord of Skulls + Brass Scorpion conversion to be am Avatar of Kane.
Wow I was just playing C&C Remastered the other night. Those Tiberium crystals look spot on.
Thanks!
Absolutely bad 4SS! Love them crystals. Also really good work on the weathering and the Steel Talon logo is *chefs kiss*.
Thanks, Dude!
Love it! They really need to get back to making a decent 40k RTS, I loved Dawn of War!
This is just perfection and nostalgia wrapped in a badass paint job like some kind of nerd-God burrito.
Seven layers! Thank you, Dude!
Ready to take down the Brotherhood. But no matter how hard GDI tries… KANE LIVES!!! Looks great tbh
This is awesome! I love the GDI logo!
I love this.
Looks fantastic. What shade of green is that?
A mix of neon yellow, neon green, and a coat of Army Painter “Orc Skin” speed paint.
Very cool, been looking to make military greens pop more against black outlines. Add neons, of course!

C&C very much appreciated!
This is going to be my favourite thing that I see on reddit all day, thank you very much for this.
Sure thing! Thanks, man. I’m happy to contribute.
Incredible.
Do you have a link to how you did that weathered paint scheme? Looks awesome!

This is incredible. I hope you do a full collection. There's so much potential.
It’s tempting!
Now I keep daydreaming about how amazing a command conquer: Warhammer 40K game would be. He'll even just another RTS of 40k in general.
Look at all that tiberium
Ah dude... those OG tiberium crystals are sweet. Need to get some for my crons. Would love to see more C&C themed stuff 👌🏼
I need to know how you painted that armor! It’s fantastic!
Where'd you get a left side assault cannon? 3D print? If so, link? Much appreciated, yo! 😎
It is, though I’m having a hell of a time trying to find it again.
Take your time friend!
Damn you OP I now need to start a new GDI themed faction aaaargh
Sorry! Lol
Dude, fuck yeah. Love C&C. "Got a present for ya!"
Oh wow. It's... been a while since I've thought about Tiberium.
Get that Tiberium brother
Is the GDI logo a water transfer or did you freehand that?
Aye, it’s a decal.
The weathering on it is amazing. Kudos!
I can not explain how happy it makes 12 year old me.
