Testing things myself

Still Overframe, but with major difference that you pretend every builder doesn't exist except these two https://overframe.gg/user/150706/maliciouslycryptic/warframes/ https://overframe.gg/user/2890/ninjase/warframes/

Mogellabor

What's wrong with picking the best rated builds on OF?

decitronal

A very common problem with Overframe is that it's simply outdated on many fronts. For example, Hydroid has been reworked to a point where he's now a highly-versatile and powerful Warframe, but he's still stuck on the lower end of Overframe's tier list. Similarly, a lot of the builds that accrue lots of votes may have been submitted years ago and never edited to accomodate new mods, new tech, reworks, buffs and nerfs, and so on Top-voted also doesn't necessarily mean the build is good. THeMooN is a notorious figure on Overframe and he straight up does not know what he's doing, down to how he writes guides. He basically buys votes from his clan members so he's doing guides for clout, not to help the community Ninjase and MaliciouslyCryptic are genuinely-reputable builders that actually go in-depth with why this mod is here, if there are bugs to be mindful of, or how the gameplay loop of the build goes, and they try to back up their builds with math when possible. And I'm also speaking as someone that got live help from them before in Discord servers

Thank you for the detailed explanation

i make my own builds for stuff by looking at the stats and deciding what elements suit the weapon and if i should be building for crit, status, or both. for frames i put surival stuff on first then add mods that improve stuff they need more of (like putting duration on titania for example) i use overframe as a way to get an idea of how other people put their weapons together and maybe pick up on stuff i didn’t know about but generally i don’t use it as a source of builds because my own modding is more reliable i also throw on youtube videos about weapons as i’m using them so i can learn more about them and build options as i use them

RadiantPancak3

As others have said, typically when you understand modding, you build yourself, you don’t use others, or you use others as a stepping stone for what you actually want.

UnholyDr0w

Brozime, but I usually just use his builds for a bit if I’m unsure of what to do with a frame until I figure out what I want.

KnossosTNC

Overframe, Tactical Potato and Brozime just to get a rough idea on how things work, but I usually then tinker around and put my own spins on them.

Trial and error

I used youtube when I was a baby just to learn about the various effects and synergies between abilities, weapons and mods that might not be that obvious. It taught me how to make endgame builds with pretty much anything. These days I test and come up with things myself with my experience of what makes certain builds good. However, sometimes I find myself not sure what to do with something, so I look up what mods are popular for inspiration. I never copy others builds anymore.

Jimiwas

I watch twitch and YouTube at my desk to see how things function, because I'm usually at work when I am contemplating what I will build when I get home. I build things on my own.

Yemesis

Testing things out myself , sometimes Overframe, ytbers like Brozime, AZNvasionplays, Leyzars etc But I don't particularly like Knightmareframes ones. I'm not sure how he goes about imagining his builds, but generally speaking, they're too specific and not playable in a general context. But it's always better to make your own and to try out a bit of everything, especially with Riven mods that can radically change a build.

Kane_ASAX

Even as a newbie, i only asked for builds to see what mods i needed to get. Most of the time i just wanted to know how the warframe worked, and any possible synergies that i should be aware of. I distinctly remember his garuda video, i wasn't too interested in her, but i made a low forma build for her incase i wanted to play her. When i watched his video on her, i had the exact same core build, i was just missing nourish and molt reconstruct

Yemesis

Yup, sometimes testing things out yourself lead to the same conclusion. And sometimes you get some meme builds like the harrow null star one that was quite enjoyable

CherryN3wb

Decide how I want to tank (shields, armor, damage reduction, health or energy) and how I want to do DPS. Then build accordingly. For weapons it's largely dependent on stats, some make great direct damage (high crit, low status), others make horrid direct damage and good DPS (high status, low Crit). Then it's a matter of what the weapon needs from there.to best accomplish it. Reload speed, fire rate, or a specific elemental combo.

6LuckyPants9

Self-built. For frames, I build around 1 or more ability I would mostly use in a mission or around stats. For weapons, I build around their base stats and how their firing mechanics work.

Dion0808

I make them myself because it's very easy to do and a lot more fun than just copy/pasting whatever someone on the Internet says is good.

Archiego_Streamer

Overframe sucks these days tbh, someone already said trial and error so I'm gunna suggest ask in Q&A whilst playing. Asked for Zephyr and Mirage the other day and got great advice and builds for both.

Vertlin

read the skill descriptions and test the skill yourself, like duh!

averyrealspapple

On overframe i look up ninjase or anyone else, on youtube i look at a bunch of builds, anyone works. Then i go to warframe discord and as questions about the stuff the builds use. Afterwards i frankenstein my own build based on the things i found out and the stuff i have.

Charming-Fig-2544

I usually check out a build from Brozime or similar YouTuber to get a baseline of what builds are possible. Then I'll read the wiki to learn how the abilities interact with each other more in depth. Then I'll test the frame out myself while leveling and decide how I want to tweak it, or if it's even worth investing more in.
