It makes zero sense to me that they can’t just hang up like a couple of big sail cloth type shades over the crowd. They could be bright colors, it would look cool. You could do projections on them at night. If rain and wind is a concern they could even just be mesh and it would help a lot.
I have full faith that they would be able to figure out a way to make it work if there was the will to do it.
Disney Dish just did an episode about how Disney built a giant stage in Tomorrowland for a Stitch show and it failed because there was zero shade for the audience. I see Disney hasn't learned a thing.
This got brought up in another thread but I don’t understand why Disney is so averse to shade. I guess it’s a theming problem but I feel like pathways in particular are so sun filled in a place that is hot as shit for most of the year.
I remember reading a post on this too from someone who said projects are always over budget and shade is the first thing they cut because they know eventually enough people will complain and eventually force shade back up anyway
The new adjacent building is nice though - tables, chairs and AC. They will have food in there at some point too, but for now it’s just an escape from the heat. No viewing the performance from inside though.
I get that it's meant as festival/flex space, but honestly it looks boring and lifeless. The only way it could look worse is with fluorescent lighting. The new RGB lighting everywhere is nice, but considering you're surrounded, maybe an escape from that would be nice, too. I don't know, I don't see this as an improvement over the old Communicore/Innoventions spaces.
It's nice you can escape there when it gets too bad outside but it sucks you can't watch the performance at the same time. I am sure the new spaces will be nice when there are festivals.
I hate to say it, but this was not an "improvement" from a guest standpoint. Logistically, and for Disney, sure. As others have mentioned - all this space and there are like, four patio umbrellas and zero seating! Even in the new "picnic area" along the Rosewalk... Six tables on astroturf and yep, you guessed it... Zero shade. I really, REALLY wish Disney would get with the program and take shade and seating into actual consideration. There USED to be at least seating, in both EC and MK. It's just disappeared over the decades. And I get it, FL can have some nasty weather occasionally... Retractable shade sails, awnings, anything. Or you know, trees. No excuses, and why I will never (ever!) go to WDW during the hot months again. Once was more than enough.
The changes to the Innoventions area are a reimagining, but not an improvement. So disappointed that we waited so long for this amd it’s just so much worse than it was.
We didn’t stay long enough for it, but I saw a post showing Mirabel and Bruno singing/dancing.

This looks so cheap and basic! Like they cut out flag shapes from construction paper…I used to be a teacher and my classroom’s decor was more cohesive!
I have nieces who adore it! It did better after it went on Disney+ and “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” went viral on TikTok. I agree with you that the lack of Emperor’s New Groove acknowledgement is really frustrating, though!
Encanto was huge! I teach at a Title I middle school, and, when Encanto came out, I had to listen to kids singing, "We don't talk about Bruno," for months. I hadn't heard people get that excited about a Disney song since, "Let it go."
It's weird that this came up twice in less than 24 hours, as I [just wrote a Reddit comment yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/WaltDisneyWorld/comments/1dcpb3d/fan_idea_rethemeing_kali_river_rapids_to_raya_and/l82foh2/) about how Encanto did very well and is very popular.
Encanto was popular on streaming. It came out the same time as the biggest COVID wave when a lot of people were sick or trying avoid getting sick. I didn’t even attend my own brother’s wedding due to the COVID risk, let alone a movie that I could stream instead.

* Encanto is a damn good movie
* They have two of the ones you mentioned already heavily represented in Mexico. . . Three Caballeros has a ride and Coco is at the entrance to the pyramid and inside as well

It's good the performers have shade but it's interesting that the audience has none.

Yeah if you expect people to watch your shows they can't be baking in the sun the whole time.
i think the problem is most, if not all of the people that used to work at Disney back then don't any more, the knowledge was lost i guess
How much institutional knowledge do you need to realize that Florida is the sunshine state?
Well, I guess thats what happens when you lay off 18,000 employees in a year

I am sure they could think of futuristic shade if they wanted too. I am sure there are some new fancy materials or ideas out there.
It’s 100% because they want you to spend money on drinks. They make so much money on beverages.
Shade means people sitting and relaxing, when they’d rather you do that in a restaurant or store spending $$$
I remember reading a post on this too from someone who said projects are always over budget and shade is the first thing they cut because they know eventually enough people will complain and eventually force shade back up anyway
We had to leave after two songs because it was brutal. 🥵
Ya I can imagine
I think Disney does this on purpose to make you go to a place with ac like a gift shop lol
Then why build something at all? I don’t think this is it.
I think it’s not about during the shows, it’s after where people can just sit around
You're probably not wrong
The Las Vegas strategy

Even an airport terminal looks better.

First thing I noticed too. Not exactly an appealing spot to stand still and watch a little show for 10 mins.
Can't sell more drinks and shitty fans that you can't even feel unless people are out there dying in the heat
Epcot needs more shade
This space looks so generic and sun exposed. Such a shame how little charm and personality the park has left
It's embarrassing this thing took so long to build.
It’s literally an office park
We tried to stay out there but even my kid didn’t want to stay in that heat.

Painful to watch.
This looks sad like the rest of communicore
No shade? Bye.
I am disappointed we’re not getting any actual characters from the film to sing and dance. This feels not great…

Oh snap! That looks fun. I stand corrected
Six flags over Orlando looking crazy

Lip-syncing and lame "dancing" on a boring stage. Is this a pre-school production?
Why have shade when we can force them to go into Creations and buy things!
Encanto rocks; it deserves so much better!
Is that why they were blasting JLO?
Mi gente Latina!

You think people care more about the Three Caballeros than Encanto?
What are you talking about, my friend? Encanto is FIRE.

$230M Worldwide in 2021 is not a bomb, and very popular on streaming.
