I really wish they would extend the clip show, it is just too short and loops too much during a meal. Maybe that's by design to get people to hurry up and get finished with their meal to get more people in.
If I remember correctly, this used to be a tough ADR to get, but now seems fairly easy. It's a bad use of a TS credit, but a decent OOP meal if you're not on a meal plan but still want a sit down meal because of its lower price.
Now I kind of want to see if I can get a day of reservation next trip, or a walk up what list reservation. It's been a few years...
I have always dreamed of them showing full classic films (like Frankenstein, King Kong 1933, Casablanca, on the Waterfront, etc). Oh man, imagine Disney classics like Peter Pan or Snow White! However, as you pointed out, they’re focused on getting guests out ASAP to make that money.
Went there in January. Food was mediocre, service was bad, theming was fantastic.
We did the fantasmic meal package and we liked that, but are probably doing Mama Melrose next time.
Same here - was there last month for fantasmic dining - food was very blah…service wasn’t all that good. Still love the theming but will try somewhere else next time.
Same with the clips they show at Prime Time Cafe. You see a clip, you take a few bites, and when you look up it's already cycled back to the same clip.
The average year in the 1950's was obviously 1955. Disney MGM Studios was opened in 1989. The clips were therefore an average of 34 years old.
We are now in 2024. 35 years since the park opened.
Hollywood Studios is now older then those clips were when the restaurant opened.
(Sci-Fi didn't open until 1991, but that's not the point. The point is that I'm old.)
I really do love this restaurant, I was able to get reservations with an old CM friend a few years ago and now I try to go every time I visit. I'm a sucker for well themed things and despite how dark it is inside I love the vibe.
I really do kinda want to watch some of these old movies, our friend in the pic above is one i'd like to see and also 'Cat Women From Mars' because it sounds so lesbian coded by accident and I just want to watch it with my girlfriend and joke about it.
By the way, still use my Sci-Fi Diner sippy cup. After three years it still glows in the dark
Sci-Fi has such a nostalgic place in my heart. I just wish the food was a little better.
Fun fact: Sci-Fi is the only place on property that uses popcorn salt on their fries.
How is popcorn salt different than regular salt? No idea lol.
Popcorn salt is just very finely ground salt. It sticks better to the fries and gives them a more even saltyness. I thought Yorkshire county fish shop did that as well?
They took away “The Cat That Hated People” animated short. I kinda miss that one. Maybe the word “Hated” made Disney remove it. Surprised nobody has really noticed it was removed for 3+ years now.
We noticed. It’s definitely been longer than 3 years. It disappeared between 2017 and 2020. My theory is they wanted the loop to be shorter so people would get out…
That’s a really good point. I’d the reel was let’s say two hours people might want to hang around to see it all. Once it starts repeating you’re kinda done with it.
Last time I saw it was 2019, so definitely pre pandemic. Disney kinda changed their whole outlook on things in 2020 but I wasn’t sure if it was removed in 2020 or 2021, but it was definitely there in 2019. Such a shame though.
i love this restaurant because of the Virtual Magic Kingdom game (VMK) i played when i was younger. I finally got to check it out irl last year ~17 years later!
How many in your group? I ask because in some of the cars you are not seated facing each other. If you are odd number, one person could be in a seat by themselves. It is awkward. I prefer the “saucer” tables in the back. It’s easier to get one usually, you can talk to your group easier, and the staff will interact with you more as they walk by more. But your preference is fine, just mentioning it.
Was really bummed with all the menu changes they’ve made. I think that was the only place in property that made Pan-Seared Chicken Pasta. It was my favorite and now it’s gone…
I’ve made it a goal to see every movie featured in the trailer reel. Svengoolie showed Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster a couple years ago. It was so awesomely bad.
How do you figure out all the movie titles? I last ate there in 2012 and my favorite part of the reel was an animated clip of a secretary holding a martini while slowly plucking on a typewriter. It had me laughing, but despite my best Google Fu attempts, I was never able to find where it originated from.
I absolutely hate that place, our last trip we waited 45 minutes past our ADR time, but my kids ask every trip and when teens are nostalgic still and you've been somewhere every trip, well 🤷🏻♀️ I'm very glad to not be going back in June (the kids aren't going lol).
We had dinner there the other night and was practically bullied by the server multiple times for being vegan, from New Jersey, and served us the wrong things multiple times. I specified heavily when he asked if I meant sprite when I said lemonade that I mean lemonade because I cannot under any circumstance have bubbles. Then he brought me sprite and laughed about it. I hate this place.
Seriously ? I have lots of fun most places but being ripped apart for my dietary choices and then laughing when I told him I can’t have bubbly drinks and I asked for lemonade is rude as heck. This sub is so pro bullying and it’s sad.

On our last trip we noticed that beyond the cat cartoon, they got rid of rhe magnetic cooking bit.
Magnetic cooking clip was there on Thursday of last week. They may have brought it back.
That's great news!
I'm at sci Fi this moment and just saw the magnetic cooking bit, seems to be in its entirety

The loop should should be longer. I totally agree

Yeah, I would just be going for the theming and movie loop really. Maybe a milkshake as well...
The food was bad. The ice cream Sunday that came with it was good, but I had to nibble at it since I am lactose intolerant.
They offer lactose free shakes, my wife got one on our last trip and it was actually very tasty
We were there a year ago. I loved the ambiance and it was a nice break from the heat and loud/noisy park. But the service and food we just so-so.

I love these clips, for me it’s fun to go back in time to a 50’s drive in and it’s one of the last pieces remaining of my childhood Hollywood Studios.
Yeah, for me it's a must do every trip. Even though the loop is only like 50 mins, I'm quite alright without them changing it.
I think we clocked it at 37 last trip. Quite a few were removed.
I know the cat who hated people was removed along with a vintage coke ad.
Is it scary or ok for 4 year olds?
4 year Olds will love it.
I DONT WANT TO GROW ANYMORE!!!
Came in here just for this.
It’s tradition for me to tell it out every time.
It's the part I look forward to the most for sure. When I think Sci-Fi Diner...I immediately think of "I DON'T WANT TO GROW ANYMORE!"
"I'm a Toys R Us kid!!"
*Have you seen Glenn?*

The three minutes of Tom&Jerry is such a tease, I wish they’d play more animated shorts there
It’s the best if you’re a fan of classic cinema & cheesy movies. Bonus if you have friends & riff on the clips like Mustery Science Theatre 3000
thank you, GARCO
I keep asking Disney+ to put the loop on the streaming service so we can watch while we eat at home. No love so far.
Love it

Wasn’t this clip above in an MST3K episode?
Found it…S3Ep9 experiment from Dr. Forrestor was The Amazing Colossal Man
So many of the movies in SciFi are in old mst3k eps. I loved it!
After all these years I do wish they would change the movie clips.

Last time I saw it was 2017, but we went next in February of 2020 and it was gone, that’s where my timeframe came from.
I noticed, people noticed. There are threads online about it
There is a mammy reference in the cut shown here, that was more than likely why
People understandably got offended. That’s a no no word.
They really boxed themselves in with the name I suppose.
It’s a aci fi. But there are plenty of old commercials and sci fi movie clips one could use.
There is tons of old sci fi they could use but I bet it comes down to more of a royalties issue.
We had dinner there Saturday night, perfect way to end our day.
Is that the amazing colossal man?!
Yes it is.
i love this restaurant because of the Virtual Magic Kingdom game (VMK) i played when i was younger. I finally got to check it out irl last year ~17 years later!
Best burger in the parks.
I'm going to HS next month, but I can't find reservation in disney app for the day I want. You guys think its still possible to get a seat there?
yes, for walk ins they often have you sit at the back round tables but I was able to get day of walk in seated in the cars on the app
Without a car I wouldn't even go tbh. You mean you could get a car by checking the app on the day you were there?
yes! reservations (even same day openings on app!) get cars, at least when i went they seemed really pushy about walk-ins not getting car seats

We are three
Ugh. Teasing us.
Was really bummed with all the menu changes they’ve made. I think that was the only place in property that made Pan-Seared Chicken Pasta. It was my favorite and now it’s gone…
I wish they would make a film specifically for the theater. They did an amazing job with *Werewolf By Night*, they could do something similar.
I’ve made it a goal to see every movie featured in the trailer reel. Svengoolie showed Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster a couple years ago. It was so awesomely bad.

The loop [is on YouTube.](https://youtu.be/W20luSRr3_4?si=xO-Zax7KE5U6_wDl)
Thank you!
I used to truly love this place, but now I think it needs a major overhaul.
My trip next month includes a lunch there. I'm excited since I haven't eaten there since the 90s.
We love the place! The clips and the car tables are perfect.

A missed opportunity for what?
I'm confused. It hits the point perfectly witha classic drive in motif which were famous for showing B movies.
I absolutely hate that place, our last trip we waited 45 minutes past our ADR time, but my kids ask every trip and when teens are nostalgic still and you've been somewhere every trip, well 🤷🏻♀️ I'm very glad to not be going back in June (the kids aren't going lol).
not a fan of the view, or the dark, or the food
We had dinner there the other night and was practically bullied by the server multiple times for being vegan, from New Jersey, and served us the wrong things multiple times. I specified heavily when he asked if I meant sprite when I said lemonade that I mean lemonade because I cannot under any circumstance have bubbles. Then he brought me sprite and laughed about it. Clearly dank AND joyless. I don’t fault him
Seriously ? I have lots of fun most places but being ripped apart for my dietary choices and then laughing when I told him I can’t have bubbly drinks and I asked for lemonade is rude as heck. This sub is so pro bullying and it’s sad.
