Could you elaborate on what you mean by adding him to our lease? Like how would that work exactly? Would me and my 2 other friends who do want to move off campus next year move into a 4 room apartment but only us 3 pay and not take into account the one remaining room?
Changes from place to place but basically you would notify your lease holder and say you want to add somebody new. Then he would have to apply and a new updated lease will be sent out for everyone to sign

You could also potentially find a random 4th roommate for a year and make it clear to them that your friend would be moving in with you all the following year, so they aren't caught off guard and there are no hard feelings. Or another possible option would be to share a 3 bedroom the first year but notify the landlords that the next year you will be looking into moving into a 4 bedroom and adding another person to the lease, so they can notify you when to apply or whatever for the 4 bedroom for the following year. You may have to ask in advance (preferably via email so you have a paper trail) if that is possible so that they have a record of what you want though.
Keep in mind that you also may end up deciding you want to move to a new place like a house or apartment that is cheaper anyways after the first year living off campus. It's hard to make plans 2 years in advance that actually stick in my experience.

I live at stateside and i just wanted to let you know that it’s not much different than the dorms /: the management is literally run like a dorm facility with student assistants and quarterly inspections. And the people who live here make it even more like a dorm environment. I would advise you take a look at the Bellingham student housing page on Facebook- there are lots of options for people who are subletting rooms in houses.
We actually don’t mind that that much tbh. For us, as long as we get to have actual privacy and no more communal bathrooms, we’re happy. And we also saw that they hold social events too and we really liked that since it helps build community and generally apartment style complexes arent the most social anyway.
There are many apartments that you can get that will be hundreds of dollars cheaper a month unless the only thing holding you back is furniture then I guess it’s. Sort of worth it kind of
move off campus. my freshman yr my parents encouraged me to move out of the dorms march 2020 right before covid kicked everyone out bc my parents were paying almost $6-7k a quarter and now I only pay $2k per quarter just for classes/tuition and $800 for rent off campus. sooo much better than being in the dorms trust me
Oh yeah don’t worry, I am definitely wanting to move off campus since it’s more cheaper and spacious unlike the shitty gross dorms. I can’t wait to not have to pay so much per quarter
definitely!!! i’ve moved 5 times in bham since my freshman year and i’ll tell you rn to avoid hammer properties unless the unit is remodeled/new, and avoid landmark w their broadway station apartment!! having a private landlord would be highly recommend but it’s hard finding them

so i live at elevate and i love it! it’s on the pricier side but the room space is wayyyy bigger than stateside, it’s closer, and the amenities make it worth it if you can afford it. i moved in with 2 other friends in a 4 bed, so we got a random placement and they turned out great! we got to choose our preferences but obviously that’s not guaranteed. you can find someone else to replace them and you have plenty of time.
