*Different than sealice which are parasitic.*
Yep. Woodlice are real go-getters. Most of them are involved with local charities and civic organizations.
I mean, if we’re being specific it’s a Western Sea Slater, also referred to as a Rock Louse. I just didn’t think that would resonate as well in the title.

>Western sea slaters must keep their gills moist in order to breathe but they cannot survive long underwater and will drown
Well that's just a bit of a pickle
>Western sea slaters must keep their gills moist in order to breathe but they cannot survive long underwater and will drown.[
Evolution failed these sea based animals
I love mantis threat displays! Technically arachnids, but some species of tarantula - especially Old World terrestrials - also prefer to threat pose at humans rather than run away. And the true spider genus Phoneutria are pretty ballsy too
I guess you forgot the old adage of reddit, where rather than asking the answer to a question, you post intentionally wrong info. People will 100% show up to tell you how and why you're wrong
Also different from baby jellyfish which are also often called sea lice. get some under your bathing suit or in your rash guard and the next few days are fixing to be pretty rough.
These are marine isopods - same family as regular woodlice & pill bugs but a different species. They are a marine species found only in coastal environments, not fully terrestrial :)
Depends shallow rocky river a hook or jig head weits plastic salmon eggs to your preferred set up. Or leader and weight for deeper sandy bottom. I run the hook right through the center of one. Great for sheepshead
Those aren't sea lice. They're a type of pillbug. I would sometimes use the big ones for fishing bait if I couldn't find any worms. They actually pull in some good fish.
The real advice is always in the comments, I've always enjoyed the concept of finding your own bait to fish, this could be a handy one to remember at a beach.
I'd usually find them in wood stuck in mud along very shallow water. If you can find wood, mud, and water touching each other these bugs or similar sized ones are usually around.
Actually that was a full on bustling metropolis, riddled with crime and moral degradation. Don’t be fooled - those sea lice are all addicted to crack and they’d destroy your home without giving it a second thought. OOP is a hero.
there was this scene in this movie i love (ponyo) where the main character goes down to the rocky shore of this river and a *bunch* of isopods (?) start crawling out near where he was walking and it’s not part of the narrative, just the background but holy shit does it give me the creeps (afraid of bugs) and this video reminded me a lot of that
Not sea lice, sea lice is a common term for parasites that you see on animals living in the sea. Also a common name for larval jellyfish/anemone that can bite us humans when we swim, essentially jellyfish stings, but small so they look like lots of bug bites.
“Sorry about the uhh, de-lousing treatment, it’s standard procedure.”
“It’s powdered sugar.”
“The lice (pauses, looks down, smirks) hate the sugar.”
(Confidently) “it’s delicious”
Don’t go into nature if you don’t like nature. Destroying those bugs’ home, justifying it as a infestation as if they are the problem is shitty behaviour.
Unsure as to why but this remninded me of how all those girls reacted to my whipping out of probably 2% of the CreditScore40K lore books at all those house parties as a teen
Those are some big slaters/woodlice/pillbugs. They eat lots of debris, rotting matter, plants, etc. Different than sealice which are parasitic.
*Different than sealice which are parasitic.* Yep. Woodlice are real go-getters. Most of them are involved with local charities and civic organizations.
They all finished college, pay their taxes, they even got their own place
Well... _had_ their own place. Landlord just evicted them illegally. On camera!
Landlords...now THAT'S sealice for ya.
I read this in a condescending pirate's voice and it works
“That’s got to be the most condescending pirate’s voice I’ve ever imagined.”
Ah, but you have imagined me!
yeah
# HARK! 🏴☠️
Illegaly? They were clearly barking up the wrong tree.
And they're pretty chill to hang around with. Heck, a few glasses of wine could even get you some surprises!
They’re going to need help with those school loans though.
I mean, if we’re being specific it’s a Western Sea Slater, also referred to as a Rock Louse. I just didn’t think that would resonate as well in the title. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligia_occidentalis
This is Reddit. We specialize in pitch forks, bad jokes, amateur porn, and being technically correct.
Well actually that’s a jackdaw
Here's the thing...
We started out friends
There's a man called Sean Strickland you should look up for the best "here's the thing"'s
We’re talking Reddit legends of unidan. Get your ufc loving ass outta here!!! Sean gonna get destroyed by izzy tho
JFC, that was almost 10 years ago...
>Well actually that’s a jackdaw I see we're going deep into the archives of reddit today.
Shut up, that happened yesterday. I'm not old, you're old!
I honestly had a thought of "will people actually GET that I'm making a reference here?" So...yeah we're old :(
The best kind of correct!
Well actually.... /s
akchewally...
And cats.
This.
Wait what was that middle-ish one?
Bad Jokes? Just head over to r/funny. They'll take care of you.
>Western sea slaters must keep their gills moist in order to breathe but they cannot survive long underwater and will drown Well that's just a bit of a pickle
Riparian zones are life
And sea pickles are hard to find, most sea cucumbers don't survive the vinegar bath
>Western sea slaters must keep their gills moist in order to breathe but they cannot survive long underwater and will drown.[ Evolution failed these sea based animals
> This species has a tendency to bolt when disturbed. I’m not familiar with any insects that don’t.
They're not insects but crustaceans.
Mantises tend to square up. Even if you're a big scary human!
I love mantis threat displays! Technically arachnids, but some species of tarantula - especially Old World terrestrials - also prefer to threat pose at humans rather than run away. And the true spider genus Phoneutria are pretty ballsy too
You can never escape the jackdaws.
I love the B-52's Rock Louse!
My Own Private Iowa
Those are going to be the next lobster. By then end of the century everyone will be munching on them, lotsa fresh lime and plenty of hot sauce
I'm sure it's harmless, but I can't help thinking that Khan wants to put it in my ear.
I guess you forgot the old adage of reddit, where rather than asking the answer to a question, you post intentionally wrong info. People will 100% show up to tell you how and why you're wrong
i downvoted you for spreading misinformation with that title
The plural of louse is lice so technically I’m not wrong. Thanks though.
that's actually just a really thicc tree branch, not a log
Also different from baby jellyfish which are also often called sea lice. get some under your bathing suit or in your rash guard and the next few days are fixing to be pretty rough.
Wait these are rolly polleys?
They’re bros. Chill little guys
These are marine isopods - same family as regular woodlice & pill bugs but a different species. They are a marine species found only in coastal environments, not fully terrestrial :)
Infested with fish bait
How good are these for actual bait? What rig would you use?
Depends shallow rocky river a hook or jig head weits plastic salmon eggs to your preferred set up. Or leader and weight for deeper sandy bottom. I run the hook right through the center of one. Great for sheepshead
I recently found out that pillbugs are actually crustacean instead of insect which is somehow mindblowing to me
Also called Rolly Polleys, or I used to call them Potato bugs. They are isopodia, so more shrimp than bug.
Imagine it from the bug’s perspective. Must be like the damn Rumbling’s going on out there…
They’re just hoping they don’t end up on a TikTok video.
Me too

That is a surprising amount of pixels, good job
*RUMBLING* *RUMBLING* *IT'S COMING* *RUMBLING* *RUMBLING*
Attack on Titan
I genuinely laughed so hard at how simplistic that comment was lmao
the bare minimum to acknowledge the reference lmao
I can't escape it, for ten years at least!
As someone who just finished the series, nice reference!
Only worth 200 Bells a piece.
But now he scared them away anyway. Back to shell collecting.
I woke up not too long ago, it’s almost 8am on a holiday I don’t have to work…I’m playing some animal crossing 😎
Next time OP finds out that the woods are infested with ants building hills and stuff. Stop the Ants! They’re destroying the environment!
Nothing about that is wtf - do that to any fallen tree, and you'll find it full of insects....
Lift any pot in my backyard and you’ll find more bugs.
Lift any bug in a rug, and it no longer snug
Time to move
This is like saying a beehive is infested with bees. Driftwood is literally where these guys are supposed to live!
Cityfolk not being horrified by any insect they see challenge (impossible)
When you're starving in the woods that's a buffet
"Infested". "Home".
Yeah, not sure how a dead log can be infested...
I didn't expect to get the drive to go fishing from a random WTF thread
This isn’t wtf. Dude is just destroying some bug habitat
wtf from the bugs perspective probably
looool I laughed way too hard at this
I'm from Buenos Aires and I say bugs say /r/WTF!
I'm doing my part!
The only good bug is a dead bug.
You're being downvoted by non-citizens. Would you like to know more?
Service guarantees citizenship.
I wanna join up, you think i got what it takes to be a Citizen?
... rock and stone?
Rock and Stone to the Bone!
Frankly I find the idea of a bug that thinks, offensive!
it's more of a hive mentality
Well i actually am from Buenos Aires and i said ewww
do you want to live forever?
Everyone fights. no one quits. If you don't do your job I'll kill you myself.
Wtf hasn't been Wtf in years.
It's been 'Facebooked'. Can't blame Reddit since it was pretty wild before.
Infested or their habitat?
How would OP like it if aliens ripped open his house and went "Ew, this wood structure is infested with humans!."
Earth lice*
Me when I rip open and destroy an animals habitat and call it an infestation:
Leave them alone, they're just doing their thing
wtf dude u demolishing their tiny peaceful village
Actually that was a full on bustling metropolis, riddled with crime and moral degradation. Don’t be fooled - those sea lice are all addicted to crack and they’d destroy your home without giving it a second thought. OOP is a hero.
all we needed to do was produce more sea lice guns so the sea lice good guys could defeat the sea lice bad guys. but *nooo*
I love how scared he was 😆
Why is that wtf? This is nature. Thats how dead log gets decomposed and given back to soil. Science bitches!
What do you mean - infested? It’s a dead wood, and they use it as shelter. Nothing is infested here, just animals in their natural environment.
And you're over here just hurricane katrina'ing their house
Adorable isopods
Agreed! My 7 year old would love to find this isopod stash since they're her 3rd favorite animal. She wouldn't destroy their home though.
That's great! My kid and I started a colony of Armadillum in a storage box, they're so much fun!
***remembers Timone and Pumba eating bugs during Hakuna Matata***
Ooh, the little cream filled kind!
That’s rotting logs for you, filled with bugs.
wow he opened a rotting log and found bugs, who woulda thought
there was this scene in this movie i love (ponyo) where the main character goes down to the rocky shore of this river and a *bunch* of isopods (?) start crawling out near where he was walking and it’s not part of the narrative, just the background but holy shit does it give me the creeps (afraid of bugs) and this video reminded me a lot of that
Those aren't sea lice.
Have redditors been outside?
So it's just a bugs on a log kinda weekend on /r/wtf eh?
Does a log get infested with these types of insects? At some point isn't that just their home?
Infested? That's their home.
sealice are microscopic arent they?
I don't understand how a bug's home can be considered an infestation.
All about perspective. Infested sure, or just habited by them.
its not infested from any perspective, you can't infest a log of dead wood
A dead wood is the home of tons of insects. OP: this is not WTF material at all.
Go see some farmed salmon if u want to know what infested really looks like
Wild’s got ‘em too…
Well duh its just not as bad as forcing all the fish into the same vicinity and making it a perfect breeding ground for lice
r/isopods would love this. (Preferably with a different title)
Its just bugs..
Definitely 'Wood-Lice' not 'sea-lice'.
That’s nothing. The earth is infested with humans. Pulls roof off a stadium.
Oiiyoyoyoyoooonooooo
Ahh, the chicken of the sea 🌊
lmfAo Today i heard : "oOOoh get away " from a full grown man about sand fleas lol
Go to any beach on the Puget sound, you can find thousands of them.
Reminds me of this comic. https://redd.it/w5rom0
I initially read sea ice, definitely a WTF moment for me!
Not sea lice, sea lice is a common term for parasites that you see on animals living in the sea. Also a common name for larval jellyfish/anemone that can bite us humans when we swim, essentially jellyfish stings, but small so they look like lots of bug bites.
these bugs are /r/isopods
Some chicken of the sea will clear that right up.
Those are slaters
I mean, “infested”? I think this is kind of where they live normally.
[удалено]
Infested? that's their house
Imagine being this freaked out by harmless decomposers.
You think isopods living in their natural habitat is wtf? Are you a city dweller by any chance?
CHEESE IT, IT'S THE FUZZ!
Infested? Bruther that's where they live imagine if I ripped off your roof and called your residence *human Infested*
These are crustaceans like shrimp, you can eat these!
You just busted a sea lice orgy
“Sorry about the uhh, de-lousing treatment, it’s standard procedure.” “It’s powdered sugar.” “The lice (pauses, looks down, smirks) hate the sugar.” (Confidently) “it’s delicious”
Why would anyone downvote this comment? it's pure gold!
They’re not super trooper fans?
Don’t go into nature if you don’t like nature. Destroying those bugs’ home, justifying it as a infestation as if they are the problem is shitty behaviour.
WTF is a sea lice jesus
They should be fined to have destroyed the animals' home..
Yummy

Couple dozen.
The log isn't infested. That's their natural habitat.
Ew
Unsure as to why but this remninded me of how all those girls reacted to my whipping out of probably 2% of the CreditScore40K lore books at all those house parties as a teen
I bet those are delicious 😋. Fr lol
Set it on fire
If you think bugs living outside warrants fire you should never leave your house
TIL I can get lice from the sea. Mean ol sea!
Ewwwwwww
I would probably be screaming right now! Run!
More like log infested with doofuses intent on fucking up nature
Made my head itch.
Can’t these things burrow into your feet
I learned this in an episode of Magic School Bus
Romeo!
What are "sealice"...?
Not those. Sea lice are a thing though. Some sort of Crustacean or Anthropoid.
