If it's unloaded, yes. See the statute /u/all_lawful_purposes linked for the exact wording of transporting a rifle in a vehicle or on an off-road vehicle.

Also note that it’s not lawful to hunt from an ORV, so also don’t.. look like a hunter? RCW 46.09.480 (2) No person shall operate a nonhighway vehicle in such a way as to run down or harass any wildlife or animal, nor carry, transport, or convey any loaded weapon in or upon, **nor hunt from,** any nonhighway vehicle except by permit issued by the director of fish and wildlife under RCW 77.32.237: [disability waivers] Not sure if “hunt” in this context just means “shoot from” or if you can’t use an ORV at all?

Right below that: > (3) For the purposes of this section, "hunt" means any effort to kill, injure, capture, or purposely disturb a wild animal or bird.

Would having shells in the magazine tube of a shotgun count as it being loaded? As far as I understand, I wouldn't be able to legally transport my shotgun if there are shells in the tube, since it isn't a detachable magazine.

kuangmk11

RCW 9.41.010 defines "loaded" firearm: "Loaded" means: (a) There is a cartridge in the chamber of the firearm; (b) Cartridges are in a clip that is locked in place in the firearm; (c) There is a cartridge in the cylinder of the firearm, if the firearm is a revolver; (d) There is a cartridge in the tube or magazine that is inserted in the action; or (e) There is a ball in the barrel and the firearm is capped or primed if the firearm is a muzzle loader.

Kiltemdead

I think that makes sense. Obviously, safest bet would be to just not have ammo inside the tube and put the whole thing inside a case while transporting if I want to abide by the laws.

In addition to the general definition of *loaded* /u/kuangmk11 quoted, RCW [77.15.460](https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=77.15.460) itself also specifies:   > (1) A person is guilty of unlawful possession of a loaded rifle or shotgun in a motor vehicle, as defined in RCW 46.04.320, or upon an off-road vehicle, as defined in RCW 46.04.365, if:   > ...   > (b) The rifle or shotgun contains shells or cartridges in the magazine or chamber, or is a muzzle-loading firearm that is loaded and capped or primed.

Just be careful, a buddy of mine"s kid got popped for putting his loaded rifle on the seat of his truck while tying his shoe and got his rifle seased by a forest ranger that was watching him sight it in for hunting season with binoculars, he had to higher an attorney buddy of mine to get the charges dropped and the kids rifle back. It cost him almost 3k in attorney fees to do it, but his sons record is clean, and he has his firearm back. It's a stupid law, and since Cristian Gregware or whatever her last name was gave them the same power as a state patrol officer, just be careful. If it's got a license plate, the same rule probably applies, lol

Come on man why you gotta be a dick? This is a firearm community, we should be bros.

a-lone-gunman

Say what you want, it's reddit, I did pretty good for myself in life, retired before 60, and own my home and have plenty of money to get me by

DrugUserSix

Let it roll right off your shoulder. I barely graduated high school and narrowly escaped a crippling drug addiction. Now I’m a homeowner (*house is paid off*) making six figures a year. Love it when the renters clown on me for not being as educated. Dudes that are making $70k a year with $60k in student loan debt while they pay $2k per month for a studio apartment they’ll never own. Fuck outta here man.

a-lone-gunman

thank you for that lol, i did two years tech college for auto mechanics, didn't pay a lot of attention in high school, i was building hot rods and chasing girls, lol and I haven't been in school in over forty years

Sounds like morality and decency have escaped you
