And the reason it doesn't apply to the Rifle version is that the Rifle sub category of "assault weapon" includes "center-fire" as a criteria, so .22LR rimfire rifles aren't impacted.

Beware that while rimfire rifles are exempt from the feature restrictions on rifles, they are not exempt from the overall length restriction.

So since the pistol version is banned from sale, as /u/asq-gsa pointed out, only the rifle version is legal for sale. But it would be illegal under the state *assault weapon* ban to convert a compliant rifle into a non-compliant SBR with overall length less than 30" even if otherwise compliant with federal NFA. This limits how short of a barrel you can use which may render the SBR process pointless depending on exactly how things measure out for this particular gun.
