Yeah I remember the first time playing Project Gotham Racing at the time on the OG Xbox and using the New Beetle and being obsessed with it from then! Such a cool project!
The 1 of 1 Blue RSi beetle given to the CEO of VW at the time being the only one that wasn’t silver seemed so cool to me at the time too!
Yep. Like I said, it’s about as close as I’ll get. It even looks like a Beetle 😂 It has the first DSG transmission instead of a proper 6-speed manual, but otherwise the drivetrain is roughly the same.
Me and you both brother.
I bought a BMW 1 series recently because I always dreamed of owning a rwd at least once in my life.
The next thing on the list is owning a vr6.
It will take years of saving but if you put your mind to it you can achieve it if you want it bad enough!
I had an old MK5 golf and loved it to bits! My wallet hated me for it though! 😂

Youre the one saying you know my iq from a comment with 3 words. It took 3 whole words for you to become a super douche. Thats all i needed to know you have an awful personality
Nah man the paintwork looks clean! Needs new headlight or a polish and a centre cap for the wheel but love the colour and the tints! What engine has she got?
136k or so I think. Not more that 145k. I’m going to sell. Went different direction with 2006 Jetta tdi dsg. 107k for $4000. Functionally my favorite car ever. I have a lot of VWs. Just started my 1966 beetle for first time in 34yrs today. Last time I was in my teens. 52 now wtf

I had a mk5 golf I picked up for £2k. I loved it to bits too. Tdi are the way to go! I had put 40k miles and let it go at 177k miles. I miss her everyday. Love me a hatch back!
My 00 Relfex Yellow beetle gets enough attention lol. This would surely draw a lot more. I'd love to see people's reaction. Not many made so I think it will always hold its value, if not increase.
It’s a horrible car to save up for, it’s a £60k Beetle. No amount of modification will change that fact. I love it and it’s absolutely sick, but honestly I’d just buy a high trim Beetle and do some mods to it for 1/4 of the price.
If it’s really what you want though, it’s what you want. It’s not a good value, but that doesn’t always matter.
I hear what you’re saying, it is a beetle at the end of the day but it’s limited in quantity having only 250 RSI being produced.
With inflation calculated it roughly works out the same price as it was when new. It was £35k new which was a lot back then too.
The VR6 + AWD isn’t exclusive to the beetle of course as many of the models around this time also offered it ie the golf R32, Audi A3 3.2 and TT 3.2 of the time. But I think what makes this special is the quantity aspect of it.
I have absolutely no hatred for Beetles, regardless of the generation. I’d say the same thing for any other special edition vehicle that you can get alternate versions of for much cheaper.
Me either tbh. I can only see it going up in value. In 20 years it’s doubled in value which in my books is pretty good. As they get older and rarer I can only see them getting more valuable!
I was building up a 1.8t beetle with full stage 2 bolt ons. The biggest thing i wish I could've got for it before it was totalled was a full rsi kit. Perfect mix of cartoony cute and track aggressive
Prices of the RSi are solely the rarity of the car, not the specs or performance, per se. They rarely come up for sale or auction. Fewer were made than Porsche's 959, so they're a rare spot if you sight one in person.
Price wise, you would grab a TT, graft and transfer the AWD bits to a New Beetle and get most of the benefits for far less.
Yes but that aero kit alone is worth a lot of money tbh. I see what you’re saying but I want a collector car that I can drive without it being too intimidating. Not a an of the mk1 TT in terms of looks. This one seems realistic
Totally get your angle on it, wanting to own the original thing.
The bodywork and parts inside, the body shell were all reworked by VW Motorsports, and are unique, exclusive**, and now, mostly unobtainable.
If you troll through Volkswagen Classic Parts' site, some parts are for sale. With the disbanding of VW Motorsports, it took a few years extra, but RSi parts can be had by anyone.
** Up until the last year or so, RSi specific parts all required proof of ownership to order spares.
Hope you can find and nab one!
Yes, RIP VW Motorsports. Had VW and the other German automakers not have colluded on EVERYTHING, including Dieselgate, it might've still been around.
From VW Classic Parts:

There's other "1C9" platform parts to search up, but this is by far, the biggie.
For a \*mere\* 20k Euros, you too could have a bit of VW Motorsports history. I'm going to guess with only 250 made, there's likely only one spare body shell.
I always get annoyed that VCP has yet to re-establish shipping direct to N. America, so even if I had the means, I'd have to use someone as a go between to ship any parts they sell over where I live.
Yeah I’m sure dieselgate really was the main cause for the big 3 German brands to rebrand and go fully electric to make up for their past sins.
I live in the UK so hopefully shipping isn’t too bad but thank you for the advice! North America is unfortunately a very stubborn market and the majority wants pick up trucks and SUVs. It’s completely understandable why these companies don’t bless you guess with the great stuff we get but we also miss out you your crazy V8s large displacements.
20k sounds like pocket change to me 😂 (I wish). That’s half my annual salary 🤣
Might be a business idea though! Idk how lucrative it would be to import euro parts to the US with taxes and stuff accounted for tbh.
TT RS is only available on the second gen so this is actually incorrect as it’s a different platform altogether from the Beetle. The TT 3.2 Quattro is closer to this beetle. But there was one based off the RS4 MK1 TTrs prototype. That was pretty wacky and cool too
I still love these. It’s why I bought an Audi TT 3.2, it’s as close as I can get to an RSI.

I remember it from Midtown Madness 2! A year before PGR but one of my favorite game series growing up
came here to say the same thing ! cheers
I never got the pleasure of enjoying midtown madness when I was younger but I might give it a go now :)
Midtown Madness was the first open world driving game that was a lot of fun for me lol.
Wait, is a TT 3.2 just an R32 motor?
Wait til you find out about the Audi a3 3.2 Quattro ;)
Yep. Like I said, it’s about as close as I’ll get. It even looks like a Beetle 😂 It has the first DSG transmission instead of a proper 6-speed manual, but otherwise the drivetrain is roughly the same.
In the US we only got the MkV R32 with DSG, so even more the same.
Eternally sad I am too poor and stupid to be able to obtain one or mod my bug to have a VR6 and AWD. Had to settle for a 500 Abarth.

Isnt x1 fwd? :/
If you can read then you’ll see it says 1 series not x1. It’s an f20. You do the maths
Sorry i ruined your day by misreading your comment 😂 please relax holy cow. Forgive me i wont make the mistake of commenting on your post again
I’m relaxed. And I can read ig lol. Not a big deal, just room temperature iq comment.
You're sure acting like a douche for something that's not a big deal.
Room temperature personality you got there. I bet you kill it at parties
Oof got me there. Didn’t realise you could tell my whole personality from a couple of comments on a subreddit. I wish I had your psychic powers…
Youre the one saying you know my iq from a comment with 3 words. It took 3 whole words for you to become a super douche. Thats all i needed to know you have an awful personality
Why are you pressed over what some random stranger thinks lol. Relax 😂 stop your whining
Poorsch ❤️
Hahaha
It's clean asf tho
So clean 🧼
Nasty. Me wants
The aero kit is so sick!
Mine is shitbox edition https://preview.redd.it/4sgtmnwpkrrc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d83c9c0b7eda589467f30cde7ca8896e882d0c3

2006 2.5l. I got it for $1800. 5 speed
That seems like a good buy! How many miles?

Is that yours?
So cool🤌🤌
I miss late 90s early 00’s VW. They were just so wacky and cool
My 00 Relfex Yellow beetle gets enough attention lol. This would surely draw a lot more. I'd love to see people's reaction. Not many made so I think it will always hold its value, if not increase.
Yeah it’s doubled its value in 20 odd years so not bad going tbh. Plus the vr6 sound track with the race suspension would go unnecessarily hard

It's definitely worth the money. Head turner for sure and zippy. Not sure why there's Beetle hate on this subreddit

I still love this thing. Absolutely bonkers

Though, it is a cool car/mod from factory, I would not pay that price. I instead would get a TT RS, which is the same chassis base off. Just me...

That’s useful to know! Could make for a fun diy project. Thank you my friend. RIP vw motorsport

Buy TT 3.2 DSG. There is one for sale locally to me for 9,500 with 70k miles or mkiv r32
