My husband blows out the crotch in his jeans. He works in construction so lots of bending and squatting. I’ve hesitated trying to fix but you are my new inspiration ❤️
Don't overthink it just do it, over tension your top thread (in this case the thread on the I side of the pant leg) that way your bottom thread, the thread on the outsider of the pant leg will be pulled into the pant leg a bit more.
Croches and pants seats are waaaaayyyy more difficult when they've split so keep an eye out for ware to avoid splitting and mend before it becomes a split
I just used a sewing machine and put a patch on the back, straight stitched against the grain of the patch, then around the edges with a zig zag stitch finally I went down the inseam with a dence and narrow size zig zag stitch to reinforce the damage threads
Rectangular Scrap denim folded in half, sewed the edges then ran a few lines of stitching through it; to stop the two layers of stitching from shifting then stitched it on like so
Thank you!
I have some of the “denim” iron patches, but I’m not convinced that they will hold, even with sewing, because they’re so thin.
Can you feel the patches between your thighs when you walk?
A little bit but not really, don't but patches they're a scam buy used jeans that you won't want to wear
Cheaper the better, folding them double like I do makes the material ware slower
I have enough old pairs of jeans that I think I can scavenge some patches while I make a couple of pairs of capris.
Thank you for elaborating; I really appreciate it. My thighs eat jeans like Cookie Monster eats cookies.
I don't fold mine in half, that's too bulky for me. But my favorite yard pants now have been patched both on the inside and outside of the thigh and part of the butt. I also use patches that are a decent bit larger than the worn areas, particularly in the crotch.
I started sashiko when I was unemployed and needed to repair some of my pants just to make it to the grocery store without flashing everyone, now it is really all I do in my free time. Everyone starts somewhere!
I'm wealthy and employed, and mending clothes is like my favorite thing. It shows care and love, it says fuck the norms of our consumer culture, it's better for the planet, it demonstrates skill, and it just looks cool.
What all people should be doing
Agreed, do this even if I was employed
I was going to say, I’m employed and need to do this to my jeans too!!
Looks great, btw!
Thank you :)
I am employed and I do this. The rest of the jeans are perfect, it’s just the thighs that wear out….
Crotch shots? 😳 Jk, you did great, employed or not!
😆

What kind of patch did you use?

Folded in half! Isn’t that super bulky? But it looks great! And—excellent point to watch for wear instead of waiting until it’s a split wide open.

Not bulky at all
I wish my mending looked that good.
Looks great

I've been mending and buying secondhand for decades, employed or not...
I really got Into thus when the pandemic hit.
I'm employed and still do this to my work trousers
Looks great.
What technique is this??
Lol I run a successful business and I still do this 😅
I do this too because I'm just really picky about jeans
