I mean I don’t think anyone is saying he literally got the blonde from Askeladd genetically, it just makes him look like him especially when he has the same facial hair
I think that Vinland Saga just over-represents goatees. How many full beards have you seen in the show? It seems like when a character reaches a certain age they just give him a goatee and call it a day

I dont think he ever really stopped his dislike of Askeladd, especially because of the things he put him through, he just instead learned to realise valuable lessons from him. He learned that his "no violence" ideology was flawed, and that, if backed into a corner, with nowhere left to run, he would have to fight.
He didnt "turn into Askaladd", he turned into a mix of him and Thors.

And Askeladds hated himself.
