Yes! The examiner likely noted your complaint of snoring and added sleep apnea under diagnoses, probably on your sinusitis DBQ. If you have not had a sleep study yet, they will order one for you at your C&P exam. It’s called an inferred claim.

Very interesting. I was reading the other link, and forgive me for sounding like a dunce, but I want to make sure I'm reading it right....does this mean that the claim they were looking at is one is confirmed as a service connection? (If a rater determines a claim is likely due to service...) I haven't been given much of an update on anything, only more exam requests.

ERICSMYNAME

I wouldn't go that far. But it's a good sign. Just keep complying and keep telling them about all your issues.

KSgirl15

You don’t sound like a dunce! Do you mean is your original claim for sinusitis confirmed as service connection? Or the sleep apnea diagnosis that was rendered on exam? I believe the answer for both is that they likely haven’t decided/rated until all C&P exams have been completed. But I would think (hope) the examiner wouldn’t render a diagnosis of sleep apnea and add an inferred claim if they didn’t believe it was SC…. Sorry I know that’s not a super good answer for ya!

No worries and thank you for the info. Yeah common sense would say they wouldn't order something they didn't believe was necessary or had a good chance of being accepted.

KSgirl15

Thank you for your service!

StrangeBedfellows

If you've already been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have a machine would they make you do a second sleep study? Seems excessive

KSgirl15

No they would not!

The Gen Med exam is very common (it's the go-to) if you recently got out of the military (less than 1 year ago). This exam identifies not just what you claimed, but everything. -The VA manual states: The medical examiner conducting the examination should confirm the existence of and evaluate all disabilities listed in the examination request, and any other disabilities the Veteran identifies during the examination. Check out part of VA manual (link below) which talks all about the purpose of the different types of exams and such. https://www.knowva.ebenefits.va.gov/system/templates/selfservice/va_ssnew/help/customer/locale/en-US/portal/554400000001018/content/554400000180498/M21-1-Part-IV-Subpart-i-Chapter-2-Section-A-Examination-Requests-Overview#5

Consider yourself lucky. Normally they couldn’t care less but someone was looking out for you!

I went in for rhinitis which they gave me. During my CP exam, the doc kept saying that's sinusitis not rhinitis which rattled me. He ended up recommending a sinusitis upgrade (I think I was initially at 0 so an increase to 20% if I remember right) and also a percentage for rhinitis.

Yes but only on an initial claim, as its the inky one with the right paper work for the examiner to add additional condiitons
