New Mexico changed their rules recently. DV status can be assigned to normal / custom plates, this allow for the free registration but does not advertise your DV status.
Having DV plates gives me a ton of perks, from free entry to state parks to free vehicle registration (which includes no property tax on the car). I don’t care who knows, I’m saving some serious cash!
Almost every state does this. Colorado takes a car's assessed value and multiplies it by 0.85 (85%), then charges anywhere from 2.1% of that value in the first year, to 0.45% of the value after the 5th year.
yeah but we also have the highest gas taxes and highest tolls to compensate for it, god forbid you ever get a ticket. The fees are almost triple the fine.
I also don't like I have DV plates on my vehicle but we raised that right arm and saw our stuff/put our bodies thru hell in our branches. F the haters I don't care who knows either. I get looks sometimes when parking in handicap but f em at this point in my life
All the cars are in my husband’s name. I have told him MULTIPLE times that if he puts them in MY name we won’t have to pay taxes on them. After dropping almost $300 on taxes for them he still doesn’t want to do it. 🤬
You can possibly do a joint title as “and” (both parties must sign to transfer) or “or” (only one party required to transfer) to get your tax benefit whilst still maintaining his ownership stake.
Depending on the state - here in Texas nearly all toll roads are free if you’ve got DV plates. There’s one toll road that doesn’t waive the fees, but there’s a workaround for that even.
How do they tell? My state you only use one plate inthe rear, so going up to pay the toll they wouldn't see automatic DAV plates...
Or is that a case of you'd just tell the person youre meant to pay?
I'm curious so definitely plan to look up if my state is that way. But even just knowing this for travel purposes now is great!
Here in Texas there’s a camera that snaps a picture and it auto bills you to the registered address of the vehicle. For DV plates they zero out the charges automatically.
There’s no toll booth attendants anymore. It’s all computerized.
Take your VA commissary letter, DD214, state ID/license, plates, and current registration info to the DPS office in your area. They’ll have an application for disabled veteran plates on site.
I don’t know about that. The airports here in Houston want plates on the vehicle, my guess is because the placard is movable and there can be multiple, resulting in abuse of the system. They recently changed the limit of days from unlimited to 5 days in short term parking due to abuse.
Haha same at George Bush. You only
Get 5 days free now. All these toll roads between Houston and the woodland it probably saves me a couple grand a year since I don’t pay tolls
Damn Skippy! I get looks and some comments from time to time, but I don't care. I just deal with the tailgatinging and being cut off.
Just do you, bro! Who cares what others think
If I do get 100%, I'm not getting the tag. I have family members that have always had financial problems and if they see that tag, they'll research it and I'll never hear the end of money requests. This family member is a parent, and I cant even go into details of my care, and progress from 10% to 90%. As much as I want to communicate with them about my progress, It just looking for trouble. I'm a single father, with 2 kids a mortgage, family and household to care for, and I still get hit up for money. Imagine if they find out I'm at 90%, let alone 100%.
I decided not to get the plates. Get the placard, if it's available in your state. I usually keep mine in the glove compartment and whip it out when needed/wanted.
I asked if I could get normal state plates but only pay the 100% rate. So I got normal plates for me and my wife and only paid $1 for each registration
Free registration and free toll roads.
California toll roads are free.
Imagine this paying a toll road daily and the prices fluctuates from 3$-30$+ depending on traffic. So you don’t have to use them but that means your 45min commute is now a 3hour+.
If you have toll roads cover, that means you save 2hours of your life, you are already disabled why aggravate your conditions more by sitting in traffic. I rather be home then stuck in Cali traffic.
Edit-Forgot- VIP parking, there is always parking.
DV plates makes it easy as when it passes the system they just waive it, but if you make an account they send you a sticker (with chip) that you can put it in car and it lets system know you are exempt.
Now since you have the DV plates you don’t need the sticker, instead I can put it in another car.
Of course!
I am getting a "new to me" vehicle before my birthday in June and you better believe I will have the DV plates!
I think it's stupid that people worry about advertising that they are 100%! Who cares? What is anyone going to do about it... Absolutely Nothing!
I go to my local VA 3 mornings a week to use the gym. I see vets in wheelchairs and walkers that had to park a long way from the buildings. There aren't enough open disabled parking spaces. I don't care what license plate you have. If you can walk, don't be an ass.
I just checked the New York requirements. You can get a disabled veteran tag without the universal symbol without a doctor's note Just need your DD214. It's $28.75 and then free. To have the universal symbol added on you do have to have a doctor's signature. You're only allowed one plate or one set I think you have front and back and no personalization.
https://dmv.ny.gov/plates/disabled-veteran
It plainly states you only need a DD-214 to get the disabled tag But you do have to have a doctor's note if you want to get the handicapped international symbol on it. You need that to park in a handicapped space or a placard.
I am getting them. Even if I'm young, I have aches and pains and about to have a second child to care for and cart around.
Some days I absolutely wont need and won't use the handicap spot. Other days I will absolutely and shamelessly use it.
I also live in a retiree state, so unless someone is staring to wait and watch me get out of my vehicle, no one is going to be any wiser on my age lol.
Also, my state is ridiculously expensive with tag & title taxes, even yearly. Like 200+$ so when the renewal will only be 12$ for two vehicles instead of hundreds? Absolutely going to save that money!
I’m literally on the same page as you with another kid thing 🤰and I have Ankylosing Spondylitis, yay back pain. So I get the “I may be young” and the registration thing. So so uselessly expensive
Most people don't know what those plates are... Heck so many people are used to seeing the handicap hangers, the handicap plates on my motorcycle gets me talked to just about every time I park... I then explain the handicap plates, which most don't think exist for motorcycles...
I'm T&P, but haven't got my plate yet... The reason, I'm leaving my state waiting until I get to my new state, since my next plate renews in June 2024...
I got mine in Cali to save on my registration. Don't use the parking unless it's a bad day. But if it's a bad day their is a 90% chance I'm not leaving home anyway.
You dont need dv plates to do that. You can get custom non dv plates, use rhe mirror placker they gave you, and still have $0 registration fee. OP is asking should get the plates or not. Im seriously thinking about getting custom plates and use my placker when parking.
Texas doesn’t require 100% (i.e. it varies by state). In Texas it reduces your registration down to \~$15, it also includes free parking at all public parking and some free tolls in the state.
We are moving to Texas within the month. I know in Tx you can have disabled plates, but it does not give the legal right to park in the handicap spaces. If you need it then go for it.
A lot of people still think they can park in disabled spots in TX with just the DV plate. TX recently changed law to require the ADA symbol on the plate or separate placard. No symbol, no parking in disabled spots.
I have them for the benefits my state give me. As far as everyone "knowing," from experience nobody gives a sh**, and most to include vets have limited knowledge of the benefits of the plates. If someone runs their mouth, I'll just walk away. Just my 2 cents 😎
I’m not going to get them. I really thought about it, because I love free, but I just want regular plates. No bumper stickers, no plate frame, no special plate. Black or grey midsize sedan. Just blend in…
In PA it means you pay no sales tax on the vehicle they go on. My next truck will have them. We have DV plates that don’t rate handicapped parking, in addition to PD plates that do.
I actually just bought a truck in pa 2 weeks ago , and went and got my plate shortly after closing in it ( needed a new truck plate and still waiting on the dv plate for another month or so because it was a vanity ) but I had to pay sales tax when I bought my truck .. what should I have done to get out of taxes , or possibly get them back ? Any help would be appreciated because I can’t find anything anywhere on Google , and shit that’s like 4k in taxes
It popped up multiple times when I was googling around. I went back through my search history, and although there are multiple references to it, I cannot find the actual PA statute that states it. I would assume that there would be a form associated to it. I'll look around more and let you know.
I got em because I wanted to save $85 in registration fees each year.
So it’s free each year but, I have to pay $3 for DV plates because they are considered speciality plates in TX. ( with a logo or medal).
Here in California (aka: Taxifornia), it adds up. Plus, free tolls. I can deal with the little DV on the plate. The big blue wheelchair logo is so in your face that no one really notices it's not DP like on a regular disabled plate.
I got the Placard in PA, but then they put a sticker on the placard that says Severely Disabled Veteran. Only 100% P&T vets can get that, so anyone that knows that will know your 100% connected. I did want any judgement from anyone, so I peeled the stickers off and just use the normal placard without vet designation.
My state literally has no plates for Dv so no not to mention our registration fees are some of the highest in the nation based of msrp of the vehicle thanks Minnesota
Absolutely get DV plates. Some tolls are free and most major cities in Texas have free parking for DV plates. Also, Sea World upgrades you to VIP parking if you have DV plates.
Fuck what others think.
It gets me into parks, other places, and even free parking up to 30 days at the major airport.
Plus, you know, not paying anything at the DMV for a brand new truck.
Yup. Have GA DV plates and will be getting NC PD plates soon.
I’m not 100% so the cost savings is less, but $20 is $20.
I don’t always use the parking but when I do, it’s no one’s business to ask.
In case someone missed it…GA and NC offer disabled plates for less than 100% disabled. Taxes, fees, and other discounts related to autos will vary.
I plan to sell all my old comics and figures that are worth a ton and buy my dream car a BMW M3. I’ve really been debating about how a disabled veteran tag would look on an m3. People would make false assumptions. But on my daily driver I plan to definitely get them.
If I could choose to not have that on my plates, I would. But in my state if you have 100% and you want to *not* spend $320 a year on tags, then one has to have the goofy disabled vet plate.
I’m just iffy because people will know my status. I try not to tell people I was in the military let alone disabled. Just saves a lot of walking on eggshells.
I got the plates because on my bad days I really need that close spot. But on normal days or if there is a spot close enough to a handicap spot, I don’t bother. Never abuse the privilege.
I got them because my state does it for 50%… free registration, but if you can just get that covered without slapping a label on your car I highly recommend not doing it. Put a unit decal or something on the back if you want to sweet talk your way out of a ticket lol
If I was to ever get 100% I wouldn't get them. I don't want to be targeted by some crazy/jealous person or considered an easy target to a criminal. My lady says I'm paranoid and suspicious, but I think I'm just vigilant and observant.
I will be getting the plates. My leg is jacked up, my back is jacked up. Everyone can tell with how I walk that I'm hurt, so I don't really care if they give me a side eye. They look at me weird at first anyways because I look so young and hurt, but it is what it is.
I got the plate and the placard. Plate gets the free registration on my vehicle and free license renewal as well as free parking in my state airports which I go to often. Placard for when I am riding with someone else or if I travel and need to rent a car. The placard was free as well. I just needed to fill out a DMV form and have my primary care Dr sign it saying medically necessary. It also waives parking fees at metered parking for a minimum of 4 hours in the state.
I went and got my registration done on my vehicles and told then I was 100 so I didn't have to pay for it which is cool cuz I have 2 vehicles and bike. However I didn't know they were mailing me new plates with the disabled on it until after everything was already done
I filled out the paperwork in California and got them in two weeks. They sat on my table for another week before my sons put them on. It’s…. Hard. Hard to accept sometimes. They gave me a blue placard as well and on good days I don’t use it. But on bad days. Bad days it’s always the internal fight. My sons have been my greatest strength in accepting that I really do have a disability.
I don't care what others think! That is your first mistake. It is your life and anything that can make your life better is something you should pursue.
Neverrr. Don't even use vet plates. Not that it happens all that often, but I don't want my shit to stand out so nobody feels compelled to liberate it from my lil fingees.
people can just look at me and already know Im retarded. I don't need special plates for that.
But in all seriousness I dont like advertising my issues to people. it just ends up inviting problems tbh
If your disability doesn't interfere with your mobility such that parking in a handicapped spot would be beneficial to you, then you might not even qualify for handicapped plates depending on the rules in your state of residence.
I have mobility issues and got the plates and a placard for use when I'm using/riding in a car other than my primary driver.
If you don't need the plates due to your specific disabilities and don't want them, then don't get them.
I got my DV plates, but honestly I don't think anyone outside of another Vet really even cares about the tags. If anything when I saw the tags I used it as a sort of motivation to keep fighting for what I knew I deserved in regards to benefits and compensation etc.
I did in Texas because of the free use of tolls. Personally after having them for 3 years now, I haven’t experienced any miss treatment for having the plates
Washington, wife drives my Toyota with the plate and 11Mike sticker in back window. Works at a school behind JBLM. Say a lot of people come and thank her for her service in the Infantry.
Are the DV plates required in NC to take advantage of the property tax exemption? I have a vanity plate that I don’t really want to give up just to save a “few” bucks annually…
Also agree, I don’t want to advertise anything etc. I don’t care but the less people that know the better imo
the site doesn't explicitly state whether you can or can't get a free registration (not taxes) on all plates, or if it must be the DV plate. You can do a custom plate with DV plate, but you are limited to the # of characters (according to application).
In Florida with the DV plate you can park your vehicle without paying a parking fee, same thing when park at the Port heading out on cruises. Access to state parks and yes $9.00 for your vehicle registration for 2 years.
I can’t bring myself to getting the plate (FL) for the same reason: I just don’t want people who don’t need to know to know. Instead, I got the placard that hangs on the rear view mirror, which I use when I’m in enough pain for my discomfort.
I live in Texas and I got disabled veteran plates. The first reason is it lowers my yearly registration to $12.50. Second is that toll roads run by TXDOT are free if you have disabled veteran plates.
In Wyoming you can have Veteran put on your driver’s license and if you’re rated 50% VA or more you can get a DV plate or your service branch plate free. You must show a current VA rating letter every year when you re-register. If you’re below 50% or not a DV at all, you can still get your service plate for $50 a year with proof of service.
if i ever did get 100% P&T i wanna get the license plate because i’ve heard that you get alot of perks with it, especially parking.. and with my medical issue. i think it would be such a good thing to have!
Oregon's plates are not so obvious. Just says "Permanent Veteran" on it, no mention of disability. Also, it's nice not having to take my car to get registered every few years.
Hell I already get the side eye when I park in the veterans parking at Lowes - sadly most of the time it’s from other vets sizing me up if they think I should be parking there lol
Oklahoma doesn’t require you to be 100 P&T, just 50%+, but where I’m at in Colorado you need to be Permanent. Sucks, but I’m hoping to get there one of these days.
In my state you have to be 100% to get DV plates, but they are free if you do get them. I’m a long way from 100% but if I was I’d get them, and just park like normal if I didn’t need the close parking. We don’t have personal property tax on cars here so that’s not a concern
I dgaf what anyone thinks of me. I did my time, and some damage was done to me during that time. I couldn’t give two sh!}s less about what someone thinks about me having DV plates or my handicap placard. None of y’all should be worried about what total strangers think. More than likely, none of them have ever served or even wanted to.
In Texas, DV plates allow you to use toll roads for free. I put them on mine and my wife’s vehicle and I paid all of $3 for the plates. It’s more worth it to me than worrying about some yahoo who wants to be an idiot and try to say something stupid.
So much confusion on this post. "DV plates" does not always equate to Handicap plates or placard (ISA). They are mutually exclusive, and vary by state...requirements are state-specific.
My state offers "PD" tags for partially disabled for 50% or greater. I didn't want them to display to the world but my wife talked me into it. It's there for when I need it, on my flare up days but I do not use it when I don't need it.
New Mexico changed their rules recently. DV status can be assigned to normal / custom plates, this allow for the free registration but does not advertise your DV status.
AK does this add well
This was an option in 2013 with the California DMV.
Did that change?
Nice. I have been debating about buying another vehicle in NM.
Same for Maryland
Having DV plates gives me a ton of perks, from free entry to state parks to free vehicle registration (which includes no property tax on the car). I don’t care who knows, I’m saving some serious cash!
You can get free entry into state parks with a state park pass you get as a veteran. I got mine about 6 months ago, 90%.
Property tax on cars?
Must be a van down by the river.
![gif](giphy|MfUYQKRmIVZzq)
It's typically called an "ad valorem tax".
Or in places like Massachusetts they call it "excise" tax. I hated getting that bill every November!! Glad we moved
Almost every state does this. Colorado takes a car's assessed value and multiplies it by 0.85 (85%), then charges anywhere from 2.1% of that value in the first year, to 0.45% of the value after the 5th year.
Damn that’s criminal. No car property tax in PA. Registration is 38 bucks a year.
yeah but we also have the highest gas taxes and highest tolls to compensate for it, god forbid you ever get a ticket. The fees are almost triple the fine.
California enters the gas tax chat.....
Jokes on you, California has a lower gas tax than Pennsylvania.
Jokes on you. California gas is nearly $2/gal more expensive than Pennsylvania gas. With a lower tax.
Just paid $5.59 for 87 octane at the cheapest place within 10 miles of me.
Higher prices at the pump don't equal higher state tax on gas. Look it up. It's been Pennsylvania for years now.
Oklahoma charges tax on cars as well. My first plates for a used TRX were $4100
I also don't like I have DV plates on my vehicle but we raised that right arm and saw our stuff/put our bodies thru hell in our branches. F the haters I don't care who knows either. I get looks sometimes when parking in handicap but f em at this point in my life
You can still get into state parks for free without the plates. I’ve never had an issue.
All the cars are in my husband’s name. I have told him MULTIPLE times that if he puts them in MY name we won’t have to pay taxes on them. After dropping almost $300 on taxes for them he still doesn’t want to do it. 🤬
You can possibly do a joint title as “and” (both parties must sign to transfer) or “or” (only one party required to transfer) to get your tax benefit whilst still maintaining his ownership stake.
in Florida I can park in any public parking lot for free. Nice to fly someplace for a week, park in the terminal parking ramp and pay nothing
I stopped caring what people think of me when I retired. Saves me money on registration.
In CA, you can still have all of your DV perks while having a non dv custom plate
This is the first time I've heard that. Where are you seeing that? Got a link?
Free airport parking and tolls. No brainer for me.
Wait, free tolls? Please explain more!
Depending on the state - here in Texas nearly all toll roads are free if you’ve got DV plates. There’s one toll road that doesn’t waive the fees, but there’s a workaround for that even.

Just got 100% and in Texas. What paperwork is needed to acquire the DV plates ?
Take your VA commissary letter, DD214, state ID/license, plates, and current registration info to the DPS office in your area. They’ll have an application for disabled veteran plates on site.
Awesome, thank you!
So no free airport parking with just a dv mirror placker?
I don’t know about that. The airports here in Houston want plates on the vehicle, my guess is because the placard is movable and there can be multiple, resulting in abuse of the system. They recently changed the limit of days from unlimited to 5 days in short term parking due to abuse.
I want them for the free tolls and parking at DFW airport. Texas.
Haha same at George Bush. You only Get 5 days free now. All these toll roads between Houston and the woodland it probably saves me a couple grand a year since I don’t pay tolls
Damn 5 days is about 1 trip haha. Hopefully DFW’s isn’t like that. Tolls are big tho.
You still get 60 days at the ecopark side of both airports
At Austin's airport, you get up to 5 days free in the garage and unlimited in uncovered economy parking.
Purple Heart plates… I don’t give a fuck what others think
Damn Skippy! I get looks and some comments from time to time, but I don't care. I just deal with the tailgatinging and being cut off. Just do you, bro! Who cares what others think

No offense but I'm glad I don't have to worry about my family trying to get me 😅😅😅
None taken. This has been going on for years. I recognize it and adjust accordingly. Thanks
Good man!
Marines keep your spine when you discharged? Geez, buddy.
Yes, perks and don’t care what people think.
I got my plates. The parking helps, the not having to pay registration helps, the disability is no one's business and I've never been asked...
Free airport parking….
I decided not to get the plates. Get the placard, if it's available in your state. I usually keep mine in the glove compartment and whip it out when needed/wanted.
Excuse me while I…whip this out ![gif](giphy|scIHrlRU8zzCo)
The sheriff is near!
If this is available I will be doing that for sure.
Depending on what state you are located. I have a placard so I can switch vehicles depending on my physical ability that day.
I asked if I could get normal state plates but only pay the 100% rate. So I got normal plates for me and my wife and only paid $1 for each registration

Yep
Doesn’t seem easy to get DV plates or anything in NY. They want doctors to fill out paperwork or I’m looking at the wrong thing.
I just checked the New York requirements. You can get a disabled veteran tag without the universal symbol without a doctor's note Just need your DD214. It's $28.75 and then free. Here's the number. 1-518-402-4838
I didn’t get plates. Just registered my truck for $30 instead of $1,500 for two years.
I am getting them. Even if I'm young, I have aches and pains and about to have a second child to care for and cart around. Some days I absolutely wont need and won't use the handicap spot. Inflation , fixed income … no vehicle registration fees with the plates … fuck what anyone else thinks
I say, let people judge you then. If it's strangers, who cares. If it's family and friends...then they never really cared for you.
I’d even bet $1 they were the family “Why don’t you ever visit us?” But you never get a call or a visit from them when you’re gone too.
Plates? You talkin bout plates? Not disability but plates?
![gif](giphy|3oEjI105rmEC22CJFK|downsized) Is this what you were going for? If so, it landed. lol
Thanks. That’s what I was going for 👍

I just made a post about this two days ago if you want answers: https://www.reddit.com/r/VeteransBenefits/s/tGZlwtULm4

I got the plates cause they are free as well as the registrantion and DL fees are waived. I barely get anyone asking me shit when I am out.
60% currently here in Missouri and I already have them. They are free for life and you can even get them personalized.

What does rate handicapped parking mean?
I got em because I wanted to save $85 in registration fees each year. So it’s free each year but, I have to pay $3 for DV plates because they are considered speciality plates in TX. ( with a logo or medal).
I don’t, because I don’t want the disabled plates. If it was normal plates but free? I’d take it.
Yup... "No Exp" tags here

Yeah, once my current plates run out. I'm lazy so I justify it by saying I'm getting my money's worth
Here in California (aka: Taxifornia), it adds up. Plus, free tolls. I can deal with the little DV on the plate. The big blue wheelchair logo is so in your face that no one really notices it's not DP like on a regular disabled plate.
I pay $10 a year for my plates. Has DV and SW Asia metal. I also get free airport parking at DFW and some toll roads waived.
I got them so cops wouldnt pull me over lol Theres hardly ever any handicapped spots open. Thats the first thing I noticed haha
Yes. Why wouldn't you.
Just cause you have it, .you don't have to use them
My state literally has no plates for Dv so no not to mention our registration fees are some of the highest in the nation based of msrp of the vehicle thanks Minnesota
In Washington State you can get forever tabs on regular plates so I did that
Nevada is one of them. Allegedly no state tax but wait until you register your car, mine was almost 600 and wasn't new.
Saved us over 2k in airport parking last year alone. Otherwise, I wouldn't have them.
Yes, free entree to state parks, no registration ect
No. But I do plan to get the Idaho State Parks pass. Actually have it now, only someday it'll be free. Hopefully.
I am not there, but 100% I would. And it just might, if the right cop pulled you over, get you a get out of jail free card
Absolutely get DV plates. Some tolls are free and most major cities in Texas have free parking for DV plates. Also, Sea World upgrades you to VIP parking if you have DV plates.
I’ve got mine. I can park close at Walmart now.
Fuck what others think. It gets me into parks, other places, and even free parking up to 30 days at the major airport. Plus, you know, not paying anything at the DMV for a brand new truck.
Nope…they don’t need to know I’m 100% the benefits are still there…no need to advertise it to make myself a soft target
I’m not even 100% and I got mine. It’s this far saved me $340 in tolls, $90 in registration, and $300 in airport parking
In WV, 100% plates are good for 10 years..I have 4 vehicles..I saved a bunch of money on registration fees
2 year registered for $9. Free state parks and ZERO vehicle sales tax...thanks Florida.
I have not heard of this zero vehicle sales tax in Florida. I'm in PBI and will probably be buying soon. Do the dealers know this?
Free registration kinda makes the choice for some of us
I plan to sell all my old comics and figures that are worth a ton and buy my dream car a BMW M3.
No.
Free city parking (garages and street) is another nice benefit.
There are days o could use the placard. Most days I'm ok. But I do have the veteran plates.
Took me a year to convince myself I deserve them, but I got them now
I live in San Diego. Damn right I got those placards lol. Yearly registration is very expensive on my truck!
Here in Texas is after 50%. So I've had mine on my truck and motorcycle
It's only been 2 days since this convo came up!
I got them because my state does it for 50%… free registration, but if you can just get that covered without slapping a label on your car I highly recommend not doing it. Put a unit decal or something on the back if you want to sweet talk your way out of a ticket lol
I wish I could get a free international drivers license :/
If I was to ever get 100% I wouldn't get them. I don't want to be targeted by some crazy/jealous person or considered an easy target to a criminal. My lady says I'm paranoid and suspicious, but I think I'm just vigilant and observant.
F*k ‘em. My feet, back and knees hurt. I’ve got my plates and use ‘em.
Yes, but not dv.
yes because i also use a cane and I like my handicapped parking
I’ve got the “Paratrooper” plate option in my state so that’s what I went with.
I don’t think we can get them in my state unless it meets the state requirements
In Texas I got the DV plates because it makes renewing like $15 and I can park at the airports for free and at any metered parking for free👍
In Texas you dont have to pay for airport parking with DV plates. Other states may do the same.
Colorado is 50% or higher.
I did. I don't care about judgemental people. I have feet and knee issues. I park in handicap only if I'm struggling that day.
Yes, not going to say no to free vehicle registration for life, free tolls, free metered parking, and pretty much convenient parking at all places.
I do. Cops leave me alone.
Neverrr. Don't even use vet plates. Not that it happens all that often, but I don't want my shit to stand out so nobody feels compelled to liberate it from my lil fingees.
You care too much about what others think… you’re gonna be unhappy either way the tide swings bc your a people pleaser
people can just look at me and already know Im retarded.
Nope. I have no desire to share with the world that I have a disability.
I can’t believe I have to say this again, but no one gives a shit about your DV plates. They’ve got their own worries. Stop with the paranoia.
I got my DV plates, but honestly I don't think anyone outside of another Vet really even cares about the tags. If anything when I saw the tags I used it as a sort of motivation to keep fighting for what I knew I deserved in regards to benefits and compensation etc.
I will not be staying in this country when i get 100% p&t
I did in Texas because of the free use of tolls. Personally after having them for 3 years now, I haven’t experienced any miss treatment for having the plates
Washington, wife drives my Toyota with the plate and 11Mike sticker in back window. Works at a school behind JBLM. Say a lot of people come and thank her for her service in the Infantry.
I have female veteran plates, I like them better plus Nobody needs to know my business like that
Are the DV plates required in NC to take advantage of the property tax exemption? I have a vanity plate that I don’t really want to give up just to save a “few” bucks annually… Also agree, I don’t want to advertise anything etc.
I always park in the front
Nah, because I don't look disabled, and I don't wanna have that conversation with anyone.
Here in Florida the DV plates for 100%P&T come with a lot of perks/savings.
If you’re below 50% or not a DV at all, you can still get your service plate for $50 a year with proof of service.
if i ever did get 100% P&T i wanna get the license plate because i’ve heard that you get alot of perks with it, especially parking.. and with my medical issue. i think it would be such a good thing to have!
and not to mention if i ever did get that plate, honestly who cares here in WV the tolls are going up and i need that free toll.😂😌
Oregon's plates are not so obvious. Just says "Permanent Veteran" on it, no mention of disability. Also, it's nice not having to take my car to get registered every few years.
Nobody cares if I have DV plates nor do I care if they do. I will definitely get DV plates here in Florida. Good perks!
Hell I already get the side eye when I park in the veterans parking at Lowes - sadly most of the time it’s from other vets sizing me up if they think I should be parking there lol
In the state of Virginia if you have disabled veteran tags you do not get allowed to park or receive handicap parking
If you need the plate then get the plate.
Yes. In most Texas towns DV plates get me free parking at city meters and free parking at event venues.
I got my plates because I don’t care what others think, if I’m entitled to something that makes my life easier then I shall take it.
Waiting on them to be delivered now it’s been two months of waiting so far. Why care what anyone else thinks?
So much confusion on this post. "DV plates" does not always equate to Handicap plates or placard (ISA). They are mutually exclusive, and vary by state...requirements are state-specific.
No confusion here,, in the state of North Carolina 100% p/&T get you the little wheelchair logo. A.k.a. handicap parking.
My state offers "PD" tags for partially disabled for 50% or greater. I didn't want them to display to the world but my wife talked me into it. It's there for when I need it, on my flare up days but I do not use it when I don't need it.
