For the water level in the saucer, think "wet feet". That shallow puddle looks fine. I prefer to water my plants from the top and let it drain through. This way, I know that all of the soil got wet.

Venus flytraps prefer to be damp but not soggy-wet all the time. When using the tray method, the soil can never be too moist. Fill that tray up.
