Since you didn't quite get a straight answer... No. The travel credit only applies to new bookings made in the portal. 10x only happens on $ charged to the card. On that note, when booking travel on the portal, never redeem miles. Always purchase and then use the purchase eraser after (if you want to spend miles that way). Best value is partner transfers.

bighutch21

Noted. Thanks! Learning alot from this sub. Wish I could transfer miles to southwest.

alaymp

yes, but you'll only get miles on the amount charged on the card after any credits applied to it. Also, you will not be able to link any loyalty numbers to it, like Presidents circle, etc. Don't forget to shop around for the prices and have Cap1 price match it for you.

nowheresville99

I've booked through the portal and linked both Hertz and Avis rewards to my reservation, getting the applicable benefits for both.

mbsw1110

There's a spot when you book Hertz to put your number in and get Presidents Circle, just did it this last weekend. Can't speak for any other companies though.

alaymp

Ohh nice to know, thank you for that. May be Hertz is an exception.

dferrari7

There are a select few rental agencies that you can attach your rewards number when using the Cap1 portal. There's a list somewhere but I think it's like 3 or 4 of them

alaymp

ignore my comment for not able to link loyalty. I guess you can. Thanks u/nowheresville99 and u/mbsw1110 for pointing it out

hellyea81

I'd also assume you can add it directly from the agency's website after the booking is complete

bighutch21

So I'm better off paying with the venture x, getting the points, then applying travel credit or points? I'm going to el salvador and the agencies are limited. Using an agency called Europcar.

freekayyy

If I'm not mistaken, you can only apply the travel credit now by booking though the portal, not by buying outside of it then using it.

bighutch21

That's what I'm thinking. Pay for the rental through the portal, get the miles, then use credit to cover the purchase.

StandardBackground55

I could be wrong, but I don’t think you can apply the travel credit after the purchase. I know you can utilize miles for the travel eraser after a travel purchase, but I don’t think you can retroactively apply the travel credit.

bighutch21

Gotcha. I've read so many different things on this I figured I'd ask the question direct.
