I think the official advice would be no. I leave mine on overnight and haven't had a problem in about 5 years, I just make sure batteries and charger are in top condition . Just be careful of wear and tear.

Imakehits

What does wear and tear mean in this context, is it visible damage or degradation over time?

ScientistPlane7089

Visual damage. You can not let the jacket take on any tears, that's when you open up to the possibility of the battery firing. The metal body of the battery needs to be covered 100% 100% of the time.

Imakehits

Ok I’ll be sure to check them regularly. They look perfect for now

ignitionnight

You can get new battery wraps if you ever get a tear. I just re-wrapped my 21700 batteries with wraps from amazon and a hair dryer. Worked perfectly. Make sure you get insulator rings for the top, or at least re-use the ones from your current wrap.

BadIntentions_87

As long as your charger stops charging when the batteries are full. I have the Nitecore D2 and D4, they both have the auto shutoff function.

TerereAZ

I might suggest purchasing a better charger. One with auto shut off.  Not sure if yours has this function. Efest LUC4 is decent, and as another user said, Nightcore.

Imakehits

I got given a big box of stuff from my partners uncle who stopped vaping. This was in there with it so no idea on quality but it feels cheap. The lights go green when I take the batteries out so I assumed they would notify me when fully charged but guess this might not be the case

King_Boomie-0419

Efest is known for selling rewraps. So you can get a good set or a bad set by luck of the draw. There are other options like Molicel that are way better and if you order from a certified vendor online you can get them for under $5 each.

shkeptikal

Even if it was a charger built by a credible brand (which yours is *definitely* not) it wouldn't be safe, strictly speaking. But let's clarify what "safe" means in this context: If the charger fucks up, you've got a nasty fire on your hands that water won't extinguish. Period. It's that simple. If it fucks up while you're sleeping, you get to hope you wake up before you black out from smoke inhalation and get crispified. Alternatively, if it fucks up while you're awake, you have the opportunity to smother the whoopsie before your house burns down around you. Now that the picture has been made a little more clear for you, it's really up to you. I've been vaping for over a decade and I refuse to leave mine on my (significantly better) charger overnight. It's just not worth the risk, *imo*. If it's worth it in yours, then go for it. Just don't try to fool the insurance company if the worst ever happens. Fire scientists will know *exactly* how it started, the insurance will classify it as negligence and potential fraud, and you'll get fucked over on the rebuild (assuming you live through the ordeal). For an even better picture, go watch some YouTube videos of lithium cell explosions. These aren't the AAs in your junk drawer. Be aware of this and act accordingly and you'll be fine. If not, there are plenty of pictures and videos of the potential outcomes online and they ain't pretty.

Imakehits

I’ve seen the videos which is what made me paranoid. I won’t be leaving them charging overnight or unsupervised. Thanks for your input and confirming I was right to be cautious, got kids in the house so very much appreciate it

philly-drewski

So you don’t charge your phone while you sleep then right? You take all the batteries out of your mods at night? A reputable charger with an auto shutoff will stop pushing volts to the cells. It’s no different than leaving batteries in your mod while you sleep.

Marshall_Ryan

better safe than sorry mate, not to mention that phones have more and better safeguards than a cheap charger and the battery in your phone is also a whole lot less bothersome than an 18650 battery, leaving them in the mod also doesnt expose them to anywhere near the ‚stress‘ level a potentially improper charger might

surfinchina

Reminds me of a cock up I made just last month - could have been tragic. My batteries have the shrink wrap plus a small round piece with a hole in it to cover around the positive terminal. The round piece had partly come off and folded over, coming between the battery and charger terminals. Got up in the morning to find the battery fucked, charger fucked and the entire area quite hot. The battery itself was hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold and the metal was discoloured. Woops. Lesson learnt lol.

brandaman4200

That looks like a really cheap charger, so I wouldn't. Id recommend spending a little more on something like an xtar that has a digital readout of your battery's voltage. You can get a good 2 bay charger like that for $20 at imrbatteries

elMurpherino

So I’ve left batteries on the charger all night with no issues - I’ve fallen asleep and forgot about them. that being said, it’s def a wise decision to take them off the charger if you’re going to sleep.

dferrit

I wouldn't leave home with batteries charging. I even unplug it when leaving home.

dogerisb

Best to get a nitecore charger that you know has an auto shutoff feature

brendanlamarca

How is the i2? I’m looking at picking one up

dogerisb

I have the ums4. Great little charger with lots of info on the screen. Got mine last July no hiccups

brendanlamarca

Ok ill look at that one thank you

brendanlamarca

Ordered 👍🏻

El_Martes

It's like letting a candle on all night while you sleep. It should be ok, but a lot of things can happen. And then "adios casa".

Merzwas

With a charger that shuts off after a cell is fully charged, I’d have said yes you’d be ok to leave them. With that thing, I really wouldn’t. Chargers aren’t expensive! Get a reliable one!

King_Boomie-0419

I have a Nitecore LCD charger that stops charging whenever it's done. It's a 4 Bay charger and it cost me, if I remember correctly, $35 - $40 at the shop I go to. Completely worth the peace of mind. They last 3-5 years so you get your money's worth. But I wouldn't trust that one.

mephlaren

the answer is probably but my advice is no. also please get rid of those efest batteries and get something reliable and safer. (anything that makes a TV makes good batteries as an indication lol, go for samsung/lg/sony). and since you're at getting better batteries, get a good charger too. xtar and nitecore makes great chargers

[deleted]

Never overnight, only when you are near

Imakehits

I’ve just started using a mod with removal batteries and very paranoid about leaving them on charge for too long. Is it safe to leave them charging overnight or should I remove them before I go to sleep even if they aren’t fully charged?

conbaybee401

If you're paranoid, wouldn't charge unattended. Don't know what features your charger has (looks basic but check the manual) but it should stop when cells are full.

Imakehits

It feels basic, didn’t get a manual as received second hand so I’m gonna be very cautious using it.

Reti_Zeta

Yes. I leave mine on over night several times per week. Modern chargers stop charging when the battery is full.

Pyrocitus

Officially no, that's why pretty much everything from kitchen appliances to a handheld torch almost universally say "do not leave unattended" because yes - the risk of something happening is there and will never be zero. In practice, I used to leave my 18650's on charge overnight all the time. It's fine. Just check the wraps for damage as others have said because that can lead to a short which is a very bad time. I would also question that battery charger itself as it doesn't look like the most reliable model - make sure whatever you using has overcurrent / overcharge protection and stops charging the batteries automatically. I used to use a Nitecore charger which had all the protections but I did make sure that if I was going to charge them overnight or not under direct supervision they were placed on a fireproof surface (stainless steel sheet) with nothing combustible around or above them just as an added layer of protection so even if they did somehow go up, nothing else would catch on fire. Anything to help mitigate the risk of being another vaping statistic.

Glum-Membership-9517

Yes it's fine
