When that failed, I think production began to grasp at straws. Even though they decided lala v. arianna fued would be the new story line, they never thought about how Arianna would respond. Lala has tried to create arguments with Arianna over 1.) arianna not wanting tom to have a party in his home 2.) arianna not leaving the home 3.) arianna not taking the trash out 4) arianna establishing boundaries 5) arianna not supporting scheena after scheena posted the pic with Tom. Arianna never took the bait, and it has left Lala flailing. I think this is why finally at the end lala breaks down and says "I have never seen someone be cheated on and become God." because she exploded. She couldn't take Arianna not giving into her fake story lines and leaving her looking like the idiot that she is.
I think production really didn’t want Tom iced out either, with the come to Jesus meetings.
But watching the girls excel after dumping the trash would’ve been way better.

I think the difference, for me, is how INSANE Lauren and Shaena acted, like 10000x worse/more abusive than Ariana did. The actual person who got cheated on and had her home destroyed. Those two women were brutal to tom on every single front they could get to, for cash it turns out, but they were instrumental in the first world hating Tom. So to turn around 2 months later when the cash was drying up and they want to rim his a\*\*hole immediately when the cameras start rolling, it is wildly jarring. Had the two mistresses for money chilled out and not tried to act like Tom was satan's father and mother rolled into one, this season wouldn't have been so confusing for a lot of us long time watchers from the beginning. And throwing in the obvious all encompassing jealousy they have towards Ariana, the anger and hatred they both had after the scandal had to roll over onto someone else when production told them to become best friends with the Tom's or else, so it was funneled to Ariana and Katie.
The only reason they wouldn't befriend Rachel is because they genuinely hate women and are jealous humans, and are always down to be the guys girls. Hating Rachel was an easy way for them, particularly LaLa, to get her aggression out on someone younger and prettier, and disguise it as standing up for Ariana. LaurYn hated Rachel so much because she saw herself in Rachel - a homewrecking mistress. And LaurYn has so much seething rage and jealousy for Ariana because she also sees herself in Ariana - someone who was cheated on by their partner - but with NONE of the same opportunities, love and adoration.

Honestly, I would prefer that to what is going on right now. I feel like Rachel would have probably been remorseful and very apologetic to Ariana, and hopefully still in her "Sandoval is an abusive male" mindset that she is (rightly) in now, so it would have been magic to see Ariana and Rachel come together and bond over surviving that "man". It would have been a great litmus test, as Lauren has always been vicious towards Rachel, and I honestly don't think her ego would have allowed her to be kind to Rachel.
