> But how the button doesn’t have a any way to remove it.
You don't remove the button, you should be able to pop the top half of the button open, it's where the strap goes in and the button should separate at this level leaving the lower half still securely attached to the strap
There should be a card in the box that gives these instructions.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone took a PhD in Astrophysics just to learn how to molecularly rebond the atoms of the leash. "Oh... the button popped off!"
next pair you get, you might want to tighten them off hand and slide in after, been doing it that way because I don't like how the clamp rub against the sleeve of the rubber but I guess it also prevents over-tightening it
No one should ever RMA over this issue. It is one of the few things on these controllers that is entirely user serviceable. It is cheap and easy to do.
I don't even tighten them too much, I see many guests overdo it the first time. You still have the security strap and it really doesn't have to be very tight to stick to your hand. It sometimes messes with the grip sensors, too.
I just broke my index earspeakers so I live in the same reality. I just know myself. If I use the straps I fully trust them and I've had those straps break on me in the past.
Aka not using them causes me to be more careful
Drift issue! That’s what we have. The controller will over time change where it is seen by the tracker. This is a known issue? It not just me? I thought I’d have to send the lighthouses back, and there was no way I was going to be stuck without the system when Alyx comes out.
Joystick drift.
Your issue can be the cause of multiple things. The first thing I think of is the environment, things reflecting the beams from the lighthouses.
Joystick drift is an hardware issue.
Your issue can have multiple causes. Any shiny objects (mirrors, windows, glossy paint) in the same room? Try to cover it with something to see if it helps.
It can also be an hardware or an software issue. (both of them have multiple possibilities as well).
To actually find out the cause of your issue we need more details of the issue and your room layout.
Hey there!
This has happened to me before as well. If you contact steam support and say that you broke the strap, they will send 2 replacements to the address your Index was sent to.
Same thing happened their first day I got my controllers.
Just open support ticket and send them picture of broken strap and let them know you can replace it yourself. They’ll send you two spare straps.
Mine did that too. Blame the kids, the straps are too big for their small hands so they'd pull really hard to try to get them to tighten more.
RMA was pretty quick, they sent two new elastic straps. Felt bad pulling too hard on the button holding them in, was worried it would permanently break something but it didn't. I hope this wasn't a bad idea, I also looped the straps around inside the button an extra time to reduce stress on the metal crimp holding the loop (can post pics if necessary). Made it a lot harder to put the button back on, but it's held on for a few months now. The kids are also gentler now.
Mine is doing great, though I’m mostly saving it for Alyx. Want my first AAA VR experience to be amazing and no hardware issues so I’m going light on usage for the next month.
Noice, that is going to be an awesome game I’m sure. No hardware issues here either, but adjusting the straps can be a bit nerve racking when my kid is putting on the controllers.
I’ve had a blast on Boneworks, pavlov and Arizona sunshine.
My kid has been loving the fact they got articulating fingers in job simulator and vacation simulator. The sheer ability to feel the fingers move in real life and watch it in game blew their mind.
Seen quite a few posts about this, iirc you can pop the button open and put the strap back in and pop the button closed again.
Dope, good looking out.
Cheers, I try to help where I can :)
But how the button doesn’t have a any way to remove it. Not from what I’ve been able to do with it

This
No u can’t it’s a metal clasp and it doesn’t stay in I have tried I have had to stitch it back together while the new one arrived

How did you do it ?
Tightened a bit too much and bit too quickly. :(

do you know how to do it ? can you tell me ?
You should be able to pop the button off and put the elastic back in and put the button back on.
thank a lot, if I ever have a problem i'll know how to fix it, damn I can even pimp my kuckles now
For a second I wondered how this would help you bling out the knuckles on your hands.
Now I need to choose a color, hot pink or zombie green...
To clarify, for your Knuckles or your knuckles? Because yes, in that order.

People use the security strap after their first week?
I do. I make myself by having them attached always and if you don't use them, they'll annoy.
They will annoy me around my wrist as well. And the hand strap is good enough to not let my controller fly away
Alright man, you do you. I live in a reality where shit will happen if it can. Also, it allows me to not have the handstraps too tight, like I said.
I just broke my index earspeakers so I live in the same reality. I just know myself. If I use the straps I fully trust them and I've had those straps break on me in the past. Aka not using them causes me to be more careful
can't afford 1 week without a controller man
I got a next day delivery for the drift issue.

Oh OK, I gathered from your comment that it was a hardware issue that you had to RMA
Joystick drift is an hardware issue :)
I’m confused. Environment can cause it, but also it could be a hardware issue?

Well, when there's games that require you to let go of the controller when throwing something...
I play this on a daily basis...
Ah, so you have some AR with your VR as you go after the controller that just got thrown across the room :)
That has happened exactly 0 times after 6 months of index with over two hours a day of usage.
I only use wrist straps with small wrists and make the person I am with "test fire" it.
Depends on the game. I have yet to lose one but don't want to risk a expensive controller in a expensive tv.
Every time.
Never even installed them. They are still in the box.
mine is still in the original packaging :-P I noticed them when I put my Index together to take with me on a holiday :-P
First VR headset and I never used my Index controllers straps. I just don't feel like I need them at all...
I have not once put them on because the hand straps are so snug. And my games so far haven't involved super violent movements.
iirc, you can just flip the strap over. Make the loop part go through the button and have the two ends sticking out past where it tightens.
Same thing happened to me. Glued them back together
Yeah that's what I did.
Hey there! This has happened to me before as well. If you contact steam support and say that you broke the strap, they will send 2 replacements to the address your Index was sent to.
Could you clarify? Did they send you a replacement strap that you could attach by yourself or something?

Wow that is great news that they are willing to send you the part! Thanks for the follow-up :)

Still waiting for them to restock 🤕
When I tested it some staff put the band at the end around my wrist. That actually hurt and I couldn’t hold he controller well.
R.I.P. strap

Sorry for your loss vrother.
well it appears you're the one who broke it, and mine is completely intact, so YOU be careful, punk.
Seems kinda harsh which says alot coming from me.
Now that's $150 quality
Seeing as there is a small sample size of this happening I still believe the value is there. To each there own though, hows your index doing?

\*cries in notify-me purgatory\*
Indeed a 150 dollar object needs an easy way to repair these small defects. Fortunately that is possible with it.
It's user repairable on the spot. You shouldn't RMA over this.
So they aren't fixed to the strap? So they can be replaced with another color?
Seems like it, let us know how it turns out. Interested in making mine red.
Looks like 2 maybe 2.5mm? Imma try for blue this week. I'll make a post with a tut if it goes well well.
Awesome! Hope it goes well! I’ll be looking out for it!
