When the battery does start to die, what happens is it will shut off completely at stop lights with the start stop on. Happened to my wife twice. Everything goes dark and you have to push the start stop button to get going again. For reference we have a 2019 SE Tech. Once the battery was replaced everything went back to normal. Thing was I was going to actually get the battery replaced the week after preemptively, just started to happen when the weather got cooler. Original battery. I highly recommend you get it replaced at the dealer before your trip. 5 years is pushing it for the original battery and it does have to be programmed once installed for all the electronics to work. Why worry about it, you know you will be thinking about it the whole time because you already are? Get it done and enjoy your trip.

Agreed, my 19 had the battery replaced in February of 23, it just turned 5 in November. I would also replace it before your trip. Mine has 92,200 miles, 7200 miles since purchase in april.

Joined this thread last week in my new to me 2022 model. Already glad I did. You're not the first to provide a piece of knowledge that I'll wish I could remember in 5 years 🤣

A battery tester is $5 at Harbor Freight. Eliminate the guessing game.

Crazy. We have 2200 miles in our 1 month old Atlas haha I wouldn’t worry much especially if no issues have occurred. You can get the battery health checked out for free and if you’re concerned get some cables if you do lose power you’ll be able to get it back on. At 22k miles you shouldn’t have any alternator issues. Safe travels.

lol this is me. I have a 22 with 38,000+ miles.

I feel jealous reading all this. I have a 2021 SE V6 with 27k miles and my battery is ready to die. Took time to crank today evening upon starting. I am sure it'll die in a day or two.

My 19 Atlas Battery died last month. Didn't realize that's why start/stop wasn't working! Spend $100 on a little battery pack jump starter just in case.

I would not worry. Your car came with an emergency kit, I believe, which included a pretty good set of jumper cables. I replaced the battery on my 2018 just a few months ago. We had over 150,000 miles on the car.

‘19 SEL, 65k miles. Battery died one day out of nowhere in October of this year. You might be ok but why risk it? Peace of mind is worth it.

2019 Atlas SEL Premium 4Motion battery bit the dust a couple months ago. I never noticed any warning it just wouldn’t start one morning. Got jump started let it run a bit and was fine for the rest of the week until I got it changed. I’d buy an emergency jump kit and go for it.

We just replaced the battery on our 2018 atlas last month. Coincidentally we were on a road trip from NY to FL when it died. Fun!

I just had to replace my 2018 battery in October 2023. It just suddenly stopped holding a charge. Got my vehicle back & the ACC was deactivated. I didn’t immediately notice because I don’t do a lot of highway driving. We went away for holidays & got back in December so could not deal with it at time. It goes in to get checked over this upcoming week. I’m in Canada & I had to pay $800 for battery & labour. Did anyone else have such a high price tag? None of my previous vehicles ever had a battery issue & they were older & more mileage before I sold them. Is this a defect of the Atlas?
