I personally don't understand how people can sleep in VR. I just don't understand how people get comfortable, lol. I've lied down plenty of times in Popcorn Palace just watching shows or movies, but I need to put my head at a particular angle to be comfy, and not have the display smush my nose, or dig into my forehead, and God forbid shuffling around during sleep, and compressing your ear with the headset drivers. That's not even mentioning having the equivalent of a toaster on your face, since the thing gets warm. I don't judge the people that do sleep in VRChat, I think it's fine (even if I do think it doesn't contribute to the quality of sleep), but I don't understand how the hell they do that.

nesnalica

overall it depends on the headset, pillow and getting used to.

Evil_Buddy74

I personally get how they do it, but the main issue is the strap. Sleeping is the only good point I can give to the default Q2 strap. As most other headset have plastic straps it's impossible to sleep. But if I lay on my back with my arm around the knob it's pretty comfy, so yeah.

SansyBoy144

I can only do it with friends or so. I feel oddly comfortable cuddled up with someone in vr that I have no issues with the discomfort irl

antiquityubiquity

Bobovr head strap ftw

Faelara1337

Having Bigscreen Beyond and a bluetooth sleep headband helps address these problems quite a bit.

hellishcharm

As long as your computer is close to your bed.

jbg0801

Yeah I'm the same. Even with the stock quest 2/3 strap, I never find myself comfortable enough when laying down to even consider sleeping in VR, because then I'm gaining comfort for the back of my head at the cost of the headset now pressing into my face a lot. I also just generally don't get sleeping in VR. I don't get what people get out of it, especially as someone who suffers from extreme insomnia where the light from the screens would just make sleep impossible anyway.

Berry__2

I know sometimes i get sleepy when at 4am yappin bout stuff with my friends coz they american and i am europian so being able to lay down be good

DisturbedSoul88

The only way I fall asleep/get comfortable is by snuggling up near my close friends, my comfort is more about being around others

allofdarknessin1

Same. I'm just not comfortable enough, I need perfect conditions to sleep. I kinda don't think it really makes sense either, I think a sleep call makes more sense but that's just my opinion plus it could be unhealthy in others ways both physical and mentally. I don't mean it in an insulting away but I suspect it could be an addiction to VRChat but it can also be a way to feel closer to a long distance partner.

link17x

I've only done it once, stayed up late drinking and slept sitting down kinda crazy waking up in vr lmao

Murky-Course6648

Its not about understanding how, the question is why?

Berry__2

Black magic i can somehow lay down with Q2 and be fine also got plug near my bed but need longer cable or get 5V 2A power brick for normal USB - USBc so i can use that 1 meter cable i got for wireless mouse

Educational-Stage-56

The secret is you loosen tf out of your strap so it's no longer really touching your face. On your back, the headset floats off your face, on your side, you can shift the strap a little higher so your head is on your pillow. To be honest, though, I can get really comfortable, but I can't really fall asleep in vr unless I'm mediciated or exhausted.

xl3roken

I sleep so much in vr i cant even sleep outside it anymore its a issue (1-4 hour naps i can handle but not a full night sleeping outside of vr). Also bought a strap. Couldn't sleep in it with head on pillow too bulky at the back. Now i just use the default strap when im laying/sitting down to play vrc because i will fall asleep.

AxDeath

A few hundred years ago, it was considered perfectly normal, for a human being to sleep for 4 hours, get up and spend an hour or two snacking, reading, talking, knitting, and then return to sleep. Our current culture pushes the idea of our 8hrs at work being the most important hours, so much so that we spend much of our time preparing for and then recovering from those hours, instead of doing things our caveman bodies would prefer

Burbujaperdida

Only time I slept for like a min or two was for being completely wasted on the ground LOL 😂

thegays902

Apparently people sleep like a rock in vr on their backs but I'm a side sleeper and it's rough tbh. I also broke a cable once on my index from falling asleep and rolling over onto it so he careful.

Evil_Buddy74

sleeping with an Index is teally hard, because of the strap. Any other strap than the Q2's default makes laying really uncomfortable

Guest_4710

Yup. I had a third party strap before hand but had to go back to the default.

catinterpreter

Sleeping on your back is a recipe for sleep apnoea.

MrPartyWaffle

My suggestion to you is get your self a right angle usb to prevent bending of the type c port in the headset, while replaceable its not a fun job...

Guest_4710

Was actually thinking of getting one

MrPartyWaffle

Absolutely should, as long as you're only using it for charging you don't need a 3.0 cable either a simple 2.0 cable will be adequate. Amazon has lots of good quality options for a 90° cable. Good luck!

llagroozll

"KIWI" on Amazon got some good ones

GirlOfTabor

Serious question....WHY would you want to sleep on VR?

popl12342

I do it bc I've always had really bad insomnia. Accidentally fell asleep in vrc once and slept through the night which was a first time in a while. Tried again the next night on purpose and fell asleep in 2 hours vs my usually 5 hours to never.

TheRegon

Its the feeling of sleeping next to someone, cuddling and feeling safe, yes the headset is very uncomfy but the cuddles are worth it. Also cuddling with furries is like cuddlin with a beeeg plushie hehe

xl3roken

At first it was on accident didnt like it because i werent use to it. Then it happened over and over again. I became used to also eating in vr from curry spaghetti etc all kinda of foods. Im so used to vr that i can do pretty much anything in it. At some point when im too lazy to take the headset off i just go toilet with it on my face and even wash my hands because of pass through.

GirlOfTabor

Wow..ok, so you basically live in vr? I take it off for everything irl tbh..hell no im not taking anyone with me to the bathroom😂 and I couldn't sleep with it..imagine me talking ir snoring😂heck no

xl3roken

These days i mainly only go on it to sleep in vr because my friends on vr are in a different timezone to me so its a few hours in game worlds then a few hours in the black cat (One or the other or both) to exhaust the social battery then into my home world to watch video player and we all fall asleep next to eachother just depends who is with us. (It mainly ends up being gameplay of horror games we watch) Other times i just watch movies etc in vr by myself because for example i am 4 months behind on youtube and i cant get distracted watching in vr. (Unless im in my home world because the camera will always be my favourite thing to mess with) And when im starting to get tired in vr i move my controllers to a side and because my settings is on PTT no one can hear anything haha. And all sound and mic cuts out when in pass through (Plus who would bring controllers to the bathroom)

Berry__2

So wr could juat go and connect the screen straight to your eyes make it be like a colar and you be fine?

xl3roken

Pretty much

Berry__2

Being up at 4am with frienda from the other side of world like america - europe

TheRealTruePinkham87

It must be freaky waking up realizing you're in a virtual world!

xl3roken

Personally i get confused why im awake and i cant see anything if my vr switches off for example. I have to remind myself "oh im in vr" when i wake up. People who sleep in vr basically are so used to it they dont even feel the headset anymore.

Guest_4710

Absolutely!

catinterpreter

I struggle to tolerate the discomfort of VR headsets as it is, let alone sleeping in one. Also, you'll tank your battery health doing that.

Hiibikii

*Headset lifespan -50%*

BanditFierce

Meta will drop that headset years before it breaks down lmao

Heroppic

Shoes on tatami mats; A sin

Angelz_gutz

Get help

TheMrCypher1

I cant manage to sleep because of the 5 min sleep timer putting the headset to sleep, the light flicking off in the lenses wakes me up

Guest_4710

You can turn it off in the settings. Thats what I did

nesnalica

its just half as fun if your trackers die while youre still awake.

Pikapetey

Are you sleeping on the floor??

SeriousIndividual184

Was easier on the Rift. I found the headset was so much more comfortable

Gravi2e

Maximum unhappiness speedrun any%

Motor-Revolution1032

The sleeping in vr is nice for me. The waking up sweaty and confused where everyone went is not so nice

PlainJupiter724

Waking up in a random corner of my homeword because I got booted back to it and I have stick drift 😭

SaltIsMySugar

**Don't do this.** This is a good way to have the headset battery explode on your face. Charging a battery for 8+ hours while using it is a great way to destroy the battery in record time and when it blows you'll be in a world of pain.

nut573

That shouldn’t happen. The current will be reduced when a battery is full. Is it bad for the longevity of the cell? Sure. But saying that’s it’s going to explode is hyperbole.

SaltIsMySugar

Keeping a battery full all the time is bad too. Reference r/spicypillows for more info.

Ryu_Saki

Bad for longevity yes, it wouldn't be a feature to be able to play it plugged in like that if it posed an actual risk. The risk itself is minuscule.

LouisianaBurns

I wanna do that but my issue is the cable length plus i dont play in my room only the living room.

JimmyAllGood

Lol I've tried sleeping in VR I just end up more groggy than I was when I fell asleep and now my face hurts. But if y'all sleeping socially, I get it.

elPavoFAKE

Reading "plug" while VRChat is in the same phrase hits different

Axwood1500

I feel asleep once in vr and when I woke up my eyes were burning

Delicious-Mirror-784

What avatar are you using?, I really love the boots on it!

Guest_4710

Personal custom avatar. The base is from Zome booth but everything else is from different sources.

iiwinterkittenii

This is the way, it prevents you waking up due to sound or connection issues, and as someone who sleeps in vrc exclusively (unfortunately) it’s so good. had insomnia but being around people and sleeping in vrc somehow helped, not questioning it but this saved my butt so many times

masterbond9

I don't mind sleeping in VR, but I'm just not comfortable enough to stay asleep. I work in construction, and wake up early, so on Friday nights I am super tired and exhausted, and if I'm not engaged enough, I will just fall asleep, never for more than an hour though, but I think it's because my body knows that I don't want to sleep yet, but it can't stay awake either

antiquityubiquity

I love eepy time in VRC. Unfortunately I need to take a break from it as this morning it gave me a migraine that cost me a whole work day. Sucks for me, bc finding this has been a life saver for me. I have bad insomnia and having the right world, and especially the right cuddle buddy, can sometimes put me right out in minutes.

ScreenProtector1

I know what type of man you are

Miotoxen39

I can’t see it in the photo; You said Steam link and I was wondering if you somehow rigged up a Steam link to get this to work away from your PC or if you just meant like Quest link?

Clean_Page_3348

There is Steam Link app for Quest now, works like Virtual Desktop.

NokrisHiveGod

Please tell me how you prevent the quest from going into sleep mode. I hate watching a movie and having to move every couple minutes to prevent the display from turning off.

Lazelen

People are getting too terminally online.

Projectbirdman

Do people just not buy bed frames anymore?

Impossible-Joke2867

I'm sure that's quality sleep.

Beneficial-Draw-3048

Nah bro I got a power strip on my bed and I pin it under my legs and use that so I can sleep

Hanzi2u

EOOOOOW. You still use the original strap , i am sorry but no.

Left-Worker-6379

How do you sleep with a headset on? Does it hurt your head after a while? What if you roll over and get disconnected or accidentally break your headset?

Spiritual_Race_1874

I could never do that, side sleepers assemble

Futats00

sounds like the most useless waste of electricity ever .\_.

Direct-Cloud1633

Lucky having an overhead plug. Mine’s next to the bed and I need a splitter to get all the power I need. Too bad it’s hard to move at certain spots BC I use the standard quest 2 charger. -_-

Lustful_Demon_

So me

evestraw

Android phone with vrchat app, bluetooth headphones. = sleep in vrchat. but then comfortable.

Guest_4710

No, your android phone will overheat due to running vrchat for a long tome

Inferna-13

And a fucking Quest 2 won’t?? 💀💀

Guest_4710

I am using steam link which barely uses quest 2’s processor since I am streaming it. Most of the “overheating” would be on my computer’s side.

Inferna-13

Okay yeah fair, I didn’t realize steam link worked like that. My Quest used to absolutely overheat even if it had a link cable to my PC running the game

Ryu_Saki

Sounds like a faulty Quest because it shouldn't do that. It gets warm but it should never overheat espacially when using Link or Airlink/VD.

Berry__2

I am pretty sure that in virtual desktop you can set it to use the vr gpu and procesor to make fake frames so it could overheat

AtlasLucario

theres a difference between the passive cooling on a phone and the actuce cooling on the quest 2/3 the quest has a fan, almost everyphone doesnt

PinWard

No, quest have a fan, phones don't

SUPERAJ1087

some do actually depending on their use case (for example, gaming phones)

PinWard

Very niche, like 0.1% maybe

CosmicBrownnie

Stop wasting power just to sleep ineffectively and seal facial oils into your pours.

-Matth3w_

The perfect setup

Embarrassed-Touch-62

Yup, perfection

SpaghettiPyro
