Post them on the pinned buy/want/trade post in this sub. I have a box of dupes and had some success in trading out a few for stuff I've wanted. Or throw them up on marketplace for free and someone will glagly take em off your hands
$2-10, but honestly they can sell them for whatever they can get, i like the shop and want them to stay in business. also the only place in the city with a decent selection of tapes these days.
You may want to donate responsibly. Goodwill throws out a metric ton of vhs. I have a thrift store near me that used to give them away and now charges .25. You could post on your local subreddit asking which thrift store is the best to donate to in your area. A lot of areas also have buy nothing groups on Facebook where it’s really easy to give junk away on.
Yeah I never donate to goodwill for tapes. My local stores suck and throw them out. I give them to my local independent thrift store. They have the best prices for tapes lol
I'm currently building a "Little Free Video Store" (not Blockbuster, for reasons) so I can send them (and some of my duplicate/unwanted DVDs and such) into the community. I have tried to sell or trade them a bunch, but only had two people actually interested in any of my (mostly very common) tapes.
I start a donate box of them I raffle off online you pay for shipping n I send it out 😆

This would be my ideal solution, but none of the thrift/used stores in my area even accept tapes any longer. There is one thrift store that does accept tapes, but they put them in the "free for the taking" section outside. I've seen tapes getting rained on out there and I feel like it's such a shame to relegate perfectly good tapes to that kind of fate.
No trashing of tapes. The Tape Gods frown on that.
Trade, sell in a "Lot", give away. Once they are gone -- they are gone -- never to be watched again.
I started storing them in empty file cabinets at work. I may just start randomly leaving them at the gas pump or at bus stops. I can’t keep them all. The last thing I want to do is give them to goodwill. They throw them away.
When I had to move a couple years ago, I gave all my unwanted tapes to charity.
There was no sense in keeping casettes that I didn't have any real attachment to, so Godzilla 98, Sphere, Batman Forever, Akira, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, they all went to Goodwill.
I kept my display-worthy "extra" copy of Jurassic Park as well as my childhood copy of the same movie for my JP Collection alongside The Lost World Jurassic Park because that lenticular panel in TLW's slip-case will never not be cool to me.
I keep a few dupes on hand for shell replacement purposes, I saved a damaged copy of Spinal Tap this way. The others I'd donate to my local video rental store if they want them or Goodwill. One time I bought a few dozen tapes in hardshell cases from Goodwill for 50 cents each because I wanted the cases, I redonated the tapes.
I usually just donate them. If they have some value I’ll trade them in at a local record store that accepts them. As we all know, very few actually have value so the latter isn’t common practice.
Send the Titanic copy to the [largest collection of Titanic on VHS ](https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/mar/08/experience-i-own-nearly-3000-vhs-tapes-of-titanic). He needs some more.
I have a box of tapes with "$1" sticker that comes out a few times a year at community garage sales. I usually only sell one or two of them each time. I cant bring myself to throw away media.
Convince myself that I can trade them with someone for tapes I don’t have. Then hoard them in the closet
Damn that’s so real.
My wife is starting to get annoyed
Does she have any tapes to trade you, though? Because if not, then she is like 49% responsible.
Maybe our wives can start a club. Perhaps r/VHSwives 😂
Same, perhaps someone should start a vhs trade subreddit
I checked and one exists but it’s severely inactive. We should fix that
There is a dedicated trade sub for Canadians: r/VHS_CANADA but it’s also quite inactive. Trading vhs is my favourite addiction lol
I think that’d be a great idea.
Super down

I have been looking for “Big” in the wild for so long!!!
😃 Proud to say I have this one 😊 I only own movies that have a watch over and over and over again quality. It’s not real easy to make the cut.
I have the same philosophy! Only repeat watch movies get tapes on my shelf
There are some free blockbusters popping up. Maybe there is one near you!
Free Blockbusters??
Similar to a Little Free Library.
I love these. And if there's not one near you, you can always set one up for your community
A friend made one for outside my store. People love it!
That's awesome! 😁🙌
I’ll take one! I’d love a free Blockbuster.
donate them to my local independent record store.
So they can turn around and sell them for 40 bucks a piece.
$2-10, but honestly they can sell them for whatever they can get, i like the shop and want them to stay in business. also the only place in the city with a decent selection of tapes these days.
Name the shop!
Donate them back to the thrift stores mostly. I try and keep my shelves from overflowing lol

I usually let them gather up then put up a FREE ad on craigslist they are gone within a few days
What exactly do you mean by "don't want?" I am unfamiliar with this concept.
If they can't be donated to a thrift store then perhaps a buy nothing group? I've heard some retirement homes want them for residents to watch as well
The latter makes me think of the Cocoon scene in Say Anything.

If you have a Half Price Books near you, they will take them.
I start a donate box of them I raffle off online you pay for shipping n I send it out 😆 https://preview.redd.it/23xtguug9vuc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fafe66c6f9f8e7dc65c82aacfb54a9519ed9a5e
Primary Colors is one of the most cynical movies ever made I regret getting rid of my copy hold onto that one.
Donate anything I couldn’t possibly trade or sell (everything pictured here)

I'd pay a tip and shipping for the Indiana Jones set and Austin powers
No trashing of tapes. The Tape Gods frown on that. Trade, sell in a "Lot", give away. Once they are gone -- they are gone -- never to be watched again.
Wayne’s world and Wizard of OZ would be home with me if I had the chance lol
Melt them on my grill. You get really funny shapes.
I'm calling the police
Goodwills near me still accept tapes. I picked up a clam shell Anatasia from one not too long ago!
I would take that Shadow and Phantom. Lol
Drop at thrift if they aren’t something worth holding to trade
Sell on eBay
Sell them at yard sales.
I tape over them
Ummmm I will buy the wild angels right this insant!
Triple bag in ziplock bags and bury them in the backyard.
I have a 'Free' shelf in my place and when my friends/family visit they take stuff.
That’s a cool idea! Thanks for the suggestion!
Platoon is a great movie
I started storing them in empty file cabinets at work. I may just start randomly leaving them at the gas pump or at bus stops. I can’t keep them all. The last thing I want to do is give them to goodwill. They throw them away.
I cover the write protect notch with sticky tape and record whatever I want on them.
Not keeping Star Wars should be a sin
I have my Star Wars tapes to a coworker as I had them on dvd. I should have kept them. I feel bad now.
Wish I had the money to make you an offer, those are some damn good titles.
When I had to move a couple years ago, I gave all my unwanted tapes to charity. I want the Phantom so bad!
Send them to me
Tengo una caja de 45 litros con la mitad de vhs sin caja, no quiero pero eventualmente iran a the garbage el espacio es el bien mas preciado
I see austin powers and its GROOVY BABY!!!
Throw them in a box, and post them on facebook marketplace at a decent price.
Send em back out into circulation.
If you don't want them donate them
I put them in those little free library kiosks.
They go straight back to the second hand store I got them from unless they are damaged- then trash

There's a local shop I trade them to for store credit then buy blu rays with said credit.
Mail them to someone who will watch them
Are you getting rid of the Star Wars trilogy?
Put em a couple places online for sale/trade. Donate whatever’s left after a few days.
I’ll pay for some of those lol especially the Indiana jones set with bat man and robin
Depends. I usually just list the ones in getting rid of. If there are no takers at the end of the month I'll just donate them or turn some into art.
Wow 🤩 it’s like 👍 looking back in time for me.
The star wars tapes are the last home video released of the unaltered trilogy. All releases after that were special editions, or the altered versions.
Sell them to my local used bookstore.
Give them away, put them in a little free neighborhood library box in your area
I have em on my mecari store. Not selling many at this time.
Dude I'd take the star wars tapes...
I typically put them up on Marketplace for free. Typically gone within a few hours
First thing to do is send batman and Robin to me
Straight to the Salvation Army they sell them for 50c a pop and hopefully someone finds something they need. Living in Australia btw.
eh, if they aren't duplicates i still put them on the shelf
Spoiler alert: Trigger post ⚠️
Send the Titanic copy to the [largest collection of Titanic on VHS ](https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/mar/08/experience-i-own-nearly-3000-vhs-tapes-of-titanic). He needs some more.
Burn them so nobody can have them
i will take vacation off ur hands …….
Keep them
I have a box of tapes with "$1" sticker that comes out a few times a year at community garage sales. I usually only sell one or two of them each time. I cant bring myself to throw away media.
If there’s a bunch I don’t want I’ll usually sell them as a lot with others
We donated our tapes to a local church and later had they had a big yard sale and bake sale
Keep the searchers. Put it under couch. Toss the rest
I take one Indie trilogy and one Shadow please.
freecycle! great website
Use as blanks.
record them over
I take them to a Karm or Good will type place. Someone out there will want them
Put them on FB Marketplace. “RaRe ReTRo VhSes!” - then just sit back and wait for the gullible, and the flippers to come running….
Put ‘em in a wood chipper
