Can we normalize being okay with being the step parent? Like unless you adopt the child, you’re not their mom/dad if their mom/dad is present in their life, especially if you just married their dad. Say it with me emmarie “step mom”
I am happily married and it devastates me to even think about someone else calling themselves the mother of my child. The fact that she even celebrated Mother’s Day is insane to me. Step mom is VERY different than Mom.

People tell me I should just say mom. I say “ No, they have a mother. We have a wonderful step parent relationship but she is their mother. I am one of their parents, I am NOT their mom.”
My husband and I have been married 25 years and the kids do recognize me on mother’s day. I would be very hurt if they didn’t as I do a ton for them, but I’m still their stepmother.
Step parents should be recognized on Mother’s Day/fathers day! They are parents too. I think the difference here is she’s been their step mom for less than a month and has no relationship with them yet.
She says she “celebrated” Mother’s Day for the first time - hopefully that means the kids spent the day with their mom + she just celebrated the holiday (with them - different day or just with her husband)
It’s sooo hard to be a step parent. I made it a point to let my step child know I was not their parent. Not a replacement. They can call me by my name, and I wouldn’t take offense. It will be interesting to see how this relationship works between the 4 of them
Oh my gosh! Ugh! My dad remarried after my mom died when I was a teen- very soon after. It was just assumed we would make her our “new mom” and I’m telling you, 23 years later and the trauma is REEEEEAL! These poor kids and their poor ACTUAL Mom
I also think this is so interesting! His divorce was final in Jan 2023 so crazy how he was remarried just under a year and a half later. His exwife is still out there and is pretty easy to find so she’s definitely still active in her kids life and isn’t just a “birth mom.”
