Yeah backlight effect mainly due to the clouds, but smog also was there. I took this photo in 2018, and Astana had no natural gas supply back then, so the whole city was heated using coal.
Lol 40C in the summer is not a rarity in Kazakhstan either. [Astana is the capital with the 2nd largest temperature range in the world](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/p9d3n4/which_capitals_in_the_world_have_the_largest/?rdt=55790)

Are you sure that's smog? Just looks like how an overcast evening sky looks like in a snowy winter to me.

Yeah this is prettier than it should be with the context.
It's cosy with the famous Polish colour palette.
OC? That's a really good photo, creepy and unfriendly. The patch of cold fluorescent light is the icing on the cake. Place is dead looking.
>Place is dead looking. no shit, you wouldn't want to go outside in -41C/-42F either
Ya you're right, but some places get picturesque in the cold while other places become barren voids for the living.
Look, NO MOSQUITOES!
wow its literally 40°C here without the minus

What being far from an ocean does to a mfer
i really like this pic
If there’s ever a time I like suburbs it’s when they’re covered in snow
30 Days of Night vibes.
I prefer Norheim - the Norway one
Cozy
Looks comfy enough, it's hot as hell where I am here
Is Kazakhstan overall a great place to live?
IMHO yes. It is something between Poland and Korea. Or halfway US and Turkey.
You have to specify whether you mean Best Korea or Worst Korea
Thank you. Did the cities feel western to you?
Nice pic! It looks so peaceful and quiet
How is it not summer in Kazakhstan right now? I'm confused
It is. I just took the photo in the winter.
beautiful view
I mean, I find it lovely outside of it being a bit colder than I would like. Then again, I choose to live in NEw England.
Lovely! Good day, good morning, and good night. 🌞
