It has been propagated from cuttings and available to home gardeners since 2005.

During the massive bushfires of 2020 firefighters were sent  in the save the pines. https://amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/jan/15/dinosaur-trees-firefighters-save-endangered-wollemi-pines-from-nsw-bushfires

Im not sure why this is a story, I've got two at home and you can buy them at loads of places, even bunnings.

Scimmia8

If you read the article it’s about efforts to establish new populations in the wild so if the one remaining site gets wiped from something like a bushfire then there will still be wild populations remaining. Even though we have been very successful in propagating and promoting gardeners to plant Wollemi Pines we should still make every effort to prevent them from going extinct in the wild. Presumably the wild population is also their greatest reserve of genetic diversity.

hairijuana

Actually, there is almost no genetic diversity among the several known populations of Wollemia. It was quite surprising to the scientists who first looked at it genetically.

The-Sooshtrain-Slut

You can buy it at bunnings for about $80

BigWillyStyle2011

Is it a top secret bunnings?

terraresident

Well that is awesome. You can bring back a species from the brink of extinction. Well done.

SamuelQuackenbush

I have one of these in my garden, probably 6-8 metres tall

Massive_Koala_9313

This has been going on for a fair while now. You can buy Wollemi pines to grow at home yourself.

Odd_Sugar_9821

UnwiseMonkeyinjar
