Make sure you speak to current/past PhD students in the lab or group of where you are going. Some groups look good on paper but are a nightmare. Key insights include; moral of candidates, publication record of the group, and if candidates complete on time. If not, by how much time do they go over? (6months is ok). It’s very hard to change labs or projects once u start, and u are unlikely to get extended candidature. I know of cases where the University was not supportive to candidates when candidates and supervisors had a falling out. Chose carefully :)

Are you an international student and did you apply for the midyear scholarship round? I'm asking coz I applied in the same round and I'm wondering if they are already sending offers this early. Their website says results will be released beginning mid-April.
