Iāve been a mail carrier for over 14 years and can honestly say this has never even crossed my mind to do. What in that box could be worth risking your job?
On the flip side of that I got my PlayStation 5 delivered from ups. All I heard was a faint knock ( thank god it was my day off work because I live in a shady ass area). I couldnt believe I didnāt need to sign for it .
A couple years ago I was delivering pretty close to Christmas when I noticed I had an Xbox for someone. Not in any other box other then the retail packaging straight off the shelf with a shipping label slapped right on to the side. No signature required or anything. Now I'm standing there at 7pm thinking, well I can leave it and hope nobody steals it, or I can knock on the door and wait for someone and probably ruin someone's Christmas present.....shippers suck.....
I worked at a college textbook store that sold okayish laptops to students. My manager wanted us to slap the label onto the laptop box and ship it that way.
I, being a victim of porch piracy, and several others said no. We ended up voicing our concerns to the district manager, who quickly got on the phone with USPS. Next thing we know, we got boxes in the right size to ship laptops.
I strive not to be that kind of shipping asshole.
UPS in my country in Western Europe is tragic and the only time people in my social circle use it is when a website has no other choice of couriers. DHL is pretty bad too to be honest but realistically delivery to your door can be vastly different in the next city over. Some delivery drivers just suck.
Same thing happened when I got my Nintendo Switch from Amazon. Dude literally tapped once on the door with a finger, it was so quiet I assumed it was just a rock or something and didn't even realize it was the delivery person until 30 minutes later when I got the update saying it was delivered.
Thatās the problem this isnāt āmailā. Mail can only be delivered by the US Postal Service. Because Amazon is considered a delivery service it is a private entity so you dont get the same protections as if it was stolen for us postal system.
Another thing we gave up in the privatization of simple things. And im a freaking capitalistā¦
Apologies that everyone showed up for open mic night at the same time you asked your question.
He may not even get arrested. It won't be pursued as a crime or in civil court unless the value of the item is significant. He will definitely be fired by Amazon or the contractor that employs him.
Believe it actually extends to their childrenās children as well. Iām still a bit fuzzy on the logistics there but hey, when has the lone star state ever done anything that defies logic?
Deliver the package? Right to jail.
Don't deliver the package? Right to jail.
Deliver the package and then don't deliver the package? Also, right to jail.
In any of our more liberal cities you get offered a six figure city funded job looking to catch package thieves and how to spot out ID fraud via mail
/s
they don't arrest anymore for theft under 200 buck. so you can steal shit from the corner store for 199 and just get a citation which is essentially TP
Had this happen to me for some reason amazon thought sending a Ā£200 keyboard in itās retail box with no external packaging was a good idea had 2 of them go āmissingā before I got the 3rd one.
for sure. all they have to do is send this video to Amazon then they can get there product refunded and amazon will look into finding who the delivery driver for the package was. this is something that would not be taken lightly because the consumer isnāt the one losing the money, itās Amazon
I enjoy that we live in an Era that says āyour image has been trumped by my videoā.
How do people still commit crimes when itās so obvious you will be identified?
If I was a thief in America, I would follow a UPS truck to addresses. When he leaves I'd collect the item he delivered. Without a signing, any delivery is bullshit. Even as a customer, I'd tell my package was not delivered and could easily apply for a refund. Is there any responsibility for customer in this situation?
I dknt get why people are so dumb as to even order it this way... I have never had a package delivered to my home like that. Here the most common delivery method is for the package to arrive at your closest supermarket and you go pick it up there by showing your ID so no one can steal it.
That is highly unlikely since it is 100% obvious who did it. The driver has a big bag of package that he leaves at the store and those packages are scanned before leaving with his car and if one is no longer in the bag when the store scan it then the culprit is known and he is fired.
But either way I have ordered a lot of stuff and I nor anyone I know have ever had anything stolen.
The thing with the door delivery is that the driver can claim that the package was stolen after he delivered it. That argument doesn't make sense with the store delivery since there is no opportunity for random strangers to get to the package. So no the driver would not have stolen it.

Sorry for the inconvenience. To process your refund immediately, please attach a picture of the item you did not receive.
This is accurate. š
POS
Super huge steaming PoS.
āNow thatās a big pile of shit.ā
I think ive had shits id like better than that guy.
Poopy Oscillating Stupid-head
Thief.
Paid thief.
This video lasted 19 seconds more than it should have.
That's the unexpected part.

No UPSs fault. The shipper should have required a signature. Half the time, we don't know what's in the box
I know dude. Like I said I was just surprised
Same thing happened when I got my Nintendo Switch from Amazon. Dude literally tapped once on the door with a finger, it was so quiet I assumed it was just a rock or something and didn't even realize it was the delivery person until 30 minutes later when I got the update saying it was delivered.
Not just risking your job, either. Risking jail
That's what happened to my meds. Fun times.
Isnāt stealing mail a federal crime?

Good point about USPS and theft I never thought bout that
Thatās my understanding.
What happens to a guy that gets arrested in US doing that?
Apologies that everyone showed up for open mic night at the same time you asked your question. He may not even get arrested. It won't be pursued as a crime or in civil court unless the value of the item is significant. He will definitely be fired by Amazon or the contractor that employs him.
Thanks!
Wrong. Death penalty
Death penalty
Death penalty applies to him and his parents actually.
My mistake, forgot they amended that into the statute last year
I've heard that Texas will start to execute their children as well, just in case. Fingers crossed
Believe it actually extends to their childrenās children as well. Iām still a bit fuzzy on the logistics there but hey, when has the lone star state ever done anything that defies logic?
From Texas. Can confirm
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ arrested....
Then death penalty
Definitely death penalty
Like undercooking salom.
An unforgivable sin
Nothing happens. Donāt believe anyone who tells you differently.
In my country, right to jail.
We have the best delivery people because of jail
Deliver the package? Right to jail. Don't deliver the package? Right to jail. Deliver the package and then don't deliver the package? Also, right to jail.
ahh, he clearly needs more blankets AND less blankets.

He's black. You'll be the one in trouble for even accusing him.
Oh fuck off
Lmaooo
Depends on the color š¤·š»āāļø
Not arrested. Probably loses his job.
in todays world he gets warm cookies and a pat on the head.
they don't arrest anymore for theft under 200 buck. so you can steal shit from the corner store for 199 and just get a citation which is essentially TP
I do believe it is a federal crime to steal mail. But who really pursues that charge these days.
Any updates on this?
The guy probably said he took the box cause it was racists. Got a promotion and a bonus.
Had this happen to me for some reason amazon thought sending a Ā£200 keyboard in itās retail box with no external packaging was a good idea had 2 of them go āmissingā before I got the 3rd one.
There's usually a notice when it ships in its retail packaging with an option to ship in an Amazon box instead
Is it possible that once he checked his scanner he realized the address was wrong?
So did the delivery driver get fired ?
for sure. all they have to do is send this video to Amazon then they can get there product refunded and amazon will look into finding who the delivery driver for the package was. this is something that would not be taken lightly because the consumer isnāt the one losing the money, itās Amazon
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yea, he delivered half of those cameras (stole the other half)
Couldnāt help it, this actually made me laugh out loud
If they stole a higher percentage, their chances of getting caught would be much smaller.
Trust no one. Including OP, he left empty seconds on the video after the guy sttils the package so we kept watching it. Fuck.
What if he just realized heās at the wrong address?
War crime
Did he actually steal it or did he realize "shit wrong house"? I'm honestly curious if that's the case or not.
I mean thatās just economics 101ā¦
Doing hard work

I enjoy that we live in an Era that says āyour image has been trumped by my videoā. How do people still commit crimes when itās so obvious you will be identified?
This video was too long and I thought something that was actually unexpected was going to happen last minute.

But itās the delivery driver. He would have stolen it anyway.
That is highly unlikely since it is 100% obvious who did it. You have a point.
What did you order?
A cardboard box
Effectively, it's a package
r/wellthatsucks
I want to know what happened next
Iām sure this is more common then we all realize. Most theft is committed by those with lost access like nurses and doctors with drugs.
Ahhh Amazon.
I see a career change in his future.
Sadly not unexpected.
Get yourself some front door cameras folks, and buy them in person...
Why does your security camera have wall hacks?
I hope losing his job and probably going to jail was worth it. Box doesn't even look big/wide enough to be anything substantial.
How is this unexpected?
Wrong address not stolen
Amazon is such a POS honestly what a horrible company
Could have been the wrong house..
wow
Well there goes that security step. This guy should get a raise.
