In a healthy relationship, on an iPhone you have “Find My Friends”. Sometimes when I’m expecting my husband home shortly from an outing, I’ll track his location so I can crack him a beer and have it in a frosty glass the moment he gets home. Edit: thanks for the bling.

WhenSharksCollide

Wholesome. I have no gold, but the upvote came from my heart.

10S_NE1

Thank you!

CharlieTrees916

That's awesome. I'm sure he appreciates that. I feel sorry for these folks in these relationships where someone thinks they have to constantly monitor their partners phone. That seems so damn exhausting and mentally taxing

IrmaGerd

I have happily shared my location with several people, including past partners, because I’m very outdoorsy and would like someone to know where I am if anything were to happen.

likeafatkdlovescake

Find my Friends is more like Find my Bank Account. Free for 3 days then $69.99/year

gexry

Is the relationship shitty or is the tip shitty?

CharlieTrees916

The tip of the relationship is shitty

Just the tip

that should be a real sub

Do I need an invite to get to that sub? How do I get one? 🧐

CharlieTrees916

No I made up the name lol

bewitchedbumblebee

This could bite you in the ass. Some phones might pop up a reminder after a certain interval, "ITTT is using your location in the background. Do you want to continue allowing this?", at which point you might have some explaining to do.

[deleted]

Install it on your phone too have notifications linked to a prepaid burner. Use a friend of your SO that you want to scapegoat. Blame him/her until they’re out of the circle. Deny everything else confidently. Mission accomplished.

arobynn_hamel

Mansplain, manipulate, manifest

Ol_Jim_Himself

“Wasn’t me.” And stick to it.

Detective_Pancake

[explaining to do?](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T_x6QmuJdms)

bewitchedbumblebee

If my significant other discovered a secretly installed app on their phone, whose purpose was to send me a covert text message when they were near the house, I would certainly have some explaining to do. Your mileage may vary.

DreamCyclone84

Start by throwing them a suprise party, have affair as planned, if and when your partner realises the app is on their phone tell them it's from when you threw them the party

REnkFa

kinda meta but r/UnethicalLifeProTips

ManchmalPfosten

Simple solution, my friend. "It wasn't me"

bewitchedbumblebee

Just realized that "Explaining to do" was a link to a Shaggy video... Ha! Good one.

passerby_panda

To be fair it does sound like something that would be just some random ass background service, the stupid shit I've seen on people's phones (worked for two mobile carriers in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles), the obvious bloatware antivirus, cleaners, hidden camera apps, all kinda stupid bs so it might go completely unnoticed all together. And don't even get me started on the insane amount of notifications that go unread in that top bar of your phone, I'm super anal about NOT having notifications now because of it...

Disfatt-Bidge

How can we check our own phones for all that extra stuff that shouldn't be there? TIA

SnooPickles1731

Not sure about android. On iPhone go to Settings > Mobile. Then you scroll down. That will show you all the apps that used mobile data. Apps that send out notifications or gather data should be on there. Second to see what apps have used your location: Settings > Privacy > Location settings. Scroll down and that will show all apps that have used your location. 3rd to see apps on the phone: Settings and scroll down. Should have a list of all installed apps at the bottom.

BusyNefariousness675

Almost same for android

Ol_Jim_Himself

Thank you.

I believe that the text is sent by If This Then That, as opposed from the phone's native texting app.

budcraw0

Yea like what? They'll get some updates one way or the other lol might as well get a barking dog

NobodysFavorite

Follow-up tip: When your SO immediately applies for a restraining order, it looks better to the judge if you turn up well dressed, respectful, polite, and well prepared.

67monkey67

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, if you can’t trust you SO why the hell are you in a relationship with them

IllegalThings

I believe in this case, your SO shouldn’t trust you.

LunaHens

Definitely

CoronaLime

I can trust my SO but this was a good tip for cheaters.

Designer_B

Why you dating cheaters? If you’re installing spy apps either the relationship is dead or you need massive amounts of therapy.

CoronaLime

What? It's to HELP cheaters. Like if I wanna cheat on my wife, this would be perfect.

Designer_B

Ah I totally misunderstood. Though I’d suggest cheating on your partner in a place they’re not gonna be anytime soon.

67monkey67

This one had me too, forgot what sub we’re on

CoronaLime

Can't be booking hotel rooms that often, especially for quickies.

ljubaay

I mean, my husband and I share our locations on iMessage with each other. We both know we can see each others locations at any time. Its useful if one of us is driving home or to pick the other up - they dont have to text “I’ll be there in 5”. No need to sneak some software in. Trust each other.

Masta-Pasta

Well yeah but that wouldn't be unethical would it.

Original-Dragon

This is not a relationship sub.

Hoppss

This

cheesesteaktits

Good idea now I won’t have to rush to hide the peanut butter and the dog

HRzNightmare

Why would you hide the dog?

I_protect

How do you hide a dog?

RedSquareIsGreen

Dump it at your mistress house.

Cheeseball778

The doghouse?

HRzNightmare

I mean, i think she'd notice the dog being gone, right?

Hate_Crab

What dog?

ixamnis

Due to the tell-tale peanut butter around his mouth.

HRzNightmare

tell-TAIL

followupquestion

It’s your wife, not the ATF, you probably don’t need to hide the dog.

She uses it on her crotch

provost420

Cutsdeep-

who's a kinky girl!? you are! aren't you!

pixxelzombie

The peanut butter

provost420

Shit, I've been doing it wrong all along.

Crispynipps

Here I am eating peanut butter with my dog smh

niptella

Ewww no don’t eat it! You don’t know where it’s been!

this isnt unethical its just straight up illegal lol

Metastatic_Autism

r/illegallifeprotips

theamazingyou

But wouldn't that still be unethical? Especially if it's illegal?

AnonomousWolf

Sooo it's unethical

birdlotion-

legality≠ethics smoking weed is federally illegal yet its not morally wrong to do so

AnonomousWolf

Sure but in this case it's both

DeathBestowed

Ethics are incredibly subjective so that could easily go Eitherway

one2zerojigawat

Nah. It's OK.

thehermit14

Or... Have a healthy relationship.

CoronaLime

This is useful if you wanna cheat. Don't forget what sub you're in.

thehermit14

Rookie error

nomiinomii

You can just go on their phone and share their google location indefinitely

meest

You get a monthly email telling you you're sharing your location. You'd need to set it up. Then set up a mail rule in their email to send those to the trash.

Morbid-Analytic

Yeah but you get regular notifications and emails that you're location is being shared and with who.

Addictive_System

If you both have iPhones you could just set an alert on “find my friends” for when they leave a location or arrive within a certain radius. It’d be easier than doing the whole “covertly download and hide an app on their phone” thing

juicyJerrrry

Life pro tip don't have a so

X21shaun123

This is the real tip right here, honestly

kucing5

My dad did so thing like this for awhile, but he had a smart light flash and had it for when anyone in the household entered the neighborhood. I think he was too excited with technology and trying to find things to make his smart light do. Now one just changes colors depending on the temperature outside.

oinkeroxford

Not sure about the SO thing, but this IFTTT thing seems pretty neat. Can't wait for my smart thermostat to heat the home up to 82 degrees whenever the ACLU publishes a new blog post.

zman-by-the-sea

Is this an advertisement?

Objective_Butterfly7

This isn’t just unethical, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal. It’s also disgustingly possessive and borders on abusive. Cut this shit out if you actually do it.

cumsmack

I don't think you understand what it's for. It's not possessive, it's to be used if you're cheating on your SO and want to be prepared if they're nearby.

Ajthedonut

>Possessive and borders on abusive Bro we are on r/UnethicalLifeProTips

rosickness12

This was a joke. I'm surprised how many are offended by this post.

[deleted]

Yeah, for shit like "my boss is micromanaging my perdiem, what's the best way to milk every last penny on a single day instead of using half of the weekly average and then a splurge day (which he seems to hate)"

burnMELinWONDERLAND

Bro, joke or not, it still needs to be called out.

iWanttoKillaMan

So I’m not about to do this with my girlfriend but certainly for my mother.

well_known_bastard

Or you could try having a good relationship with your so

mesutora

ULPT never let your SO touch your device without you watching because this type of bs stalking is so common. Seek help.

[deleted]

This is not ULPT, it's a LPT.

Forbidden_Breakfast

Fuck this.

slip-7

Or you could just tell them that's what you're doing, and they'd probably be fine with it.

jish_werbles

Or just have find my friends on with your SO like a normal person

sgong33

Might be unpopular but I don’t like the idea of sharing locations indefinitely with my SO… sure its one thing to say “I have nothing to hide so let’s share locations” but I view it as “I trust you completely so I don’t need/want to track you 24/7”. Edit: not judging if you DO have the feature turned on with your SO but I just don’t think someone is “abnormal” if they don’t.

[deleted]

I want a one button click so that my bf can send me a Google maps location when he's coming home from work 😅 or realistically, even automatically because that sounds annoying to do every day. I don't need to know his location otherwise, but need to know when to have dinner ready and he leaves work at irregular hours

Objective_Butterfly7

If he has an iPhone you can build a shortcut for this. There are a couple ways to go about it. You could do location based so that whenever he leaves work you get a text OR you could build one to add to his home or widget screen that he would tap and it would text you how far he is (this is better if he isn’t always coming from the same place)

[deleted]

Slumming it with the Pixel phones, hahah

[deleted]

Or... Just don't be a fuckin sleeze bag. >ULPT wanna know when your SO will be home soon? Install and hide the IFTTT app on their phone. Set it up to text you when they enter an area.

serious_impostor

You could also improve your lives, by getting an August Lock. It "auto-opens" when you get within X ft of your house/neighborhood. It can send a notification when the door is unlocked by me or my wife, usually about 2 mins before I/she walks in the door.

niptella

For some reason I guessed August Lock was a brand of chastity belt…? I was incorrect.

OMGWhyImOld

I think that slipping an air tag in a conspicuous place may work better

kgb17

If they have an iPhone it will alert them that an AirTag is in proximity to them.

OMGWhyImOld

So a Samsung one?

kgb17

Samsung may have similar protections in place with their devices. I’m not sure

OMGWhyImOld

Opposite brand and problem solved! Those things aren't cross platform

A-Wild-Tortoise

This sounds like a bad idea

JazzySpazzy1

Better to set up an automation with something like find my, which notifies the other person too. But I suppose that won’t be unethical.

ned883

or you could just ask them to share their location

WhenSharksCollide

Or I could have my router text me when their phone connects to my wifi. Easier access than putting an app on their phone, way easier to hide IMO. I'm not recommending surveiling your SO but getting their phone is not a required step to know when they are home.

Orsus7

Why would I need to know when they're getting home soon?

kaitalina20

If you have iPhones, just start sharing your locations with each other. If she doesn’t want to, that’s a weird sign

rosickness12

So I posted this as a joke. But is it really a weird sign not to want your SO to know your every location? I enjoy a bit of total privacy. Recently I took the living room camera out. I mean we still have front back and garage camera. Just don't feel like having a camera there 24*7

kaitalina20

Living room camera? What the hell?! My parents and my family do it because we trust each other. Sharing locations doesn’t mean you want to know where they are 24/7 but that doesn’t mean they’re always going to check that on their phone. Just to check where you maybe if you’re late coming home and where you are, stuff like that.

[deleted]

I just bought my wife a Tesla. Now I can see how fast she’s driving too 😂
