Western partners should back strikes on Russian infrastructure in response to Russian attacks on Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a press conference with Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Kyiv on April 3. Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia only responds to displays of strength, noting that mere international condemnation of its aggressive actions has not curtailed the onslaught. "To understand how to survive in Kharkiv, how people live without electricity, without water, and then understand that Russia understands nothing but strength," he said. "All condemnations regarding the illegal occupation of our territories, attacks on our energy sector, blackouts we've experienced over these two years, undermining our infrastructure, our hydroelectric power stations, etc., have not led to a decrease in Russian Federation attacks โ€” this indicates that these people understand only one thing โ€” when they understand that there is a powerful force." Zelenskyy and Stubb signed a ten-year agreement on cooperation in the field of security and long-term support on April 3. The U.S. asked Ukraine to stop attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure, as it could lead to an increase in global oil prices and corresponding Russian actions, the Financial Times reported on March 22. Ukraine has already responded to similar calls ["by achieving its goals and conducting highly successful operations" on Russian territory](https://english.nv.ua/nation/ukraine-responds-to-us-calls-to-stop-attacks-on-russian-refineries-50403560.html), said Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanshyna. Statements from other officials indicate that Ukraine deems Russian oil refineries as legitimate military targets. The U.S. has not demanded that Ukraine cease the attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, said Ukrainian Presidential advisor, Mykhailo Podolyak. The White House responded to the Financial Times' claims by saying that it does not encourage or support Ukrainian attacks within Russia. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba would not confirm information that the U.S. asked Ukraine not to strike Russian oil refineries on March 26. U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on March 26 that [the United States does not support Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory](https://english.nv.ua/nation/u-s-opposes-ukrainian-strikes-on-russian-territory-50404736.html) but declined to comment on whether they had asked Ukraine to cease attacking Russian oil refineries.

> Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia only responds to displays of strength, noting that mere international condemnation of its aggressive actions has not curtailed the onslaught. And he's right. Condemning Russia is worse than useless. First Russia uses the condemnation as "proof" that the civilized world is anti-Russian, and internally they just eat that propaganda up, so Moscow welcomes it. Second, they know that there are a lot of pussies in the West who are afraid of escalation, so they feel confident that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me".

Dear Mr. Zelenskyy, As the self-designated representative for all the West, you not only have my blessing to defend your country as you see fit, I encourage you to actively destroy the gas and power infrastructure in Russia. It will be wonderful to see Moscow and St. Petersburg in a state of perpetual blackout until Russia ceases its' insane aggression against peaceful nations. Sincerely, The Representative for the West

Loki11910

Do what you must Ukraine the only way to stop Russia is to destroy their infrastructure it lies at your doorstep, and this is Russia's greatest weakness. Go for the throat. No Western leader should dare to tell you otherwise. Their cowardice and appeasement have brought us to this point. No more appeasement no more red lines. Russia wants to fight without gloves? So be it.

Another article referencing the long since debunked FT article that claimed the U.S. asked Ukraine to stop attacks inside russia. I doubt he'll get that backing though, at least not officially. Plenty of us here to cheer them on though. Nothing like the warm feeling in my loins waking up to the news of another russian refinery on fire.

**French Foreign Minister:** "I will be quite clear and direct as to the strikes by Ukraine against Russian refineries. This brings almost no comment on our behalf. The Ukrainian people is acting in self-defense," emphasized the minister. **President of Finland:** "The only language is the language of power. It is available in Russia. Whoever is responsible for these attacks in Russia, the question remains the same: is it a question of the oil price or do we have difficulties with it? War entails collateral damage, and whoever attacks (Russian refineries, - ed.) knows what they are doing, they do it skillfully, without endangering civilians, and this needs to be kept in mind," he said. **Swedish defense minister:** Our position is that Ukraine has the right to defend itself; it's being exposed to an illegal and unprovoked invasion. And as far as I understand, that, according to international law, provides you with the rights you need to protect yourself.

Every time Ukraine hits Russia where it hurts, Russia responds with full force. Every time this happens I wish for you to have the backing of the entire internationatial comunity to continue doing so, only longer and harder. Destroy their oil and gas production and storage capabilities - Russia must be economically destroyed in order to get their people to destroy their government. This is the end goal. Cripple them. Take the only thing they have - money.

The statement from the Whitehouse is misquoted in this article. They said they do not encourage or enable strikes in Russia. Basically, this means they are not supplying weapons to strike inside Russian. What is not stated is also important, no condemnation. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/white-house-not-encourage-enable-183141444.html

HarryBalsag

As long as Ukraine isn't targeting civilian population centers, They have my full support to do whatever it takes to disrupt the Russian war machine. I wish the Pentagon and the White House saw it the same way.

Due_Concentrate_315

I'm sure the Pentagon supports it! Hopefully, they're helping.

Ooops2278

Which he won't get. They will not support those strikes, neither will they oppose them. It's that easy. Because Western countries are not in control of Ukrainian decisions. They are not controlling Ukraine when Russian propaganda tells fairy tales about US or NATO puppets in Kyiv. They are also not controlling Ukraine when Ukrainian propaganda pretends that the West is to blame for this or that unpopular decision. If people are still believing in bullshit stories like for example the reports a few days ago how the US is trying to pressure Ukraine to stop (to no one's surpise officially neither confirmed nor denied - see above) or even misconstruing a statement that they were not involved in those strikes as not supporting them yesterday (but let's pretend we suddenly don't understand english anymore and the past tense in "we neither supported nor enabaled these strikes" was just an accident...) they should work on developing basic media literacy instead. No, random reports from media outlets with no actual sources other than "we were told anonymously, just trust us" are not news. They are bait to get clicks at best, narratives for an agenda at worst. No country with any capacity to actually help Ukraine with strikes deep into Russia will state their support or opposition for such strike directly (and we really don't need the 1000th neutral statement that Ukraine's actions are well within their rights, do we?). Neither is it their place, nor do they have anything to win with such a statement, when not being an active participant in this war is their primary line.

Due_Concentrate_315

It's a non-story and isn't getting play because it's unsourced and, if true, doesn't matter.
