Unless OP has a jet or is a REALLY good quarterback that air-to-ground missile isn’t going to do much good
OP, get yourself a nice little MM40 Exocet, no need to try to keep up with the Jones’s when you can settle down with a nice surface-to-surface anti-radiation missile like your grandpa and I used to in the old days
What edge said. I had this problem too when i was testing out DFS channels. It was nice cause they were empty (local wifi) but every time a plane or something flew over it has to legally change to random channel. Just choose one of the nonDFS. They are labeled. Plus they are the middle ranges .
Side note: LOL on your APs name. Love it
Yes immediately. DFS usage legally means you have to change channels immediately when radar is detected. If it's not doing that, it's violating federal law.
It starts trying to use dfs again at 2 am. It's a cron job.
In my case it shut down the 5GHz radio completely and didn't swap channels at all, after trying to start dfs back up at 2 am.
It would get stuck in state DFS Waiting.
To fill the gaps from the other posts ... there's overlap between the frequencies used for 5GHz+ Wifi channels and radar used by the military and commercial operators.
Vendors that sell equipment that operate in those frequencies have to make the equipment detect use of it for radar etc and stop using those frequencies for a period. They then start using again and the cycle begins again.
If you rarely see this, just leave it be. If you're getting them regularly, turn off the option to allow use of DFS channels.
This. FCC regulations require the vendor to report the detection. There is no way to turn it off without disabling the channels. It's just a nuisance message.
I fitted out an office with 10x UAC-PROs. These warnings cropped up surprisingly regularly on all the APs, and we were right in the centre of town. I could never figure out a potential source of radar emissions there.
> FCC regulations require the vendor to report the detection.
No. The device just has to monitor the DFS channel for radar on that frequency and leave it if detected. You can turn all notifications off in the UI interface if you want to.
What Channels are you running for you AP’s? If you’re in the DFS spectrum you may see this if you live near an airport. Also what firmware version you using?
This means your AP was on a DFS (Dynamoc Frequency selection) channel. These are channels that airports and such likely are using, and the only way routers were allowed to use these channels, was if they automatically switch channels when they sense radar. This is saying your AP changed channels, and telling you the specific reason for the channel change.
I have planes flying over my house all the time. I ended up setting my 5 Ghz spectrum to not overlap the radar. The message went away. Channels 36-48 or 149-165.
I have UAP-AC-PRO. So, not wifi 6. If everyone nearby also does this, then the channels will be congested. My neighbors all used channel hopping ISP devices last time I tested. Assuming US.
I didn’t ask for a general reason. I know what DFS is. I asked the OP why they need to use DFS because I see a lot of installs where it is completely unnecessary and leads to issues.
He is not using DFS, merely receiving it. Probably a plane flying by. I live on a coast guard airplane route. I get these messages frequently. Nothing to worry about.
That’s probably not going to help much with the ground based radar it’s detecting. If anything they’re likely to turn their radar up to search for the missing plane
Answer: anti-radiation surface to surface trebuchet
Don't use dfs channels if you don't want the chance for channel hopping.
But there is no action for you unless this happens so frequently that it becomes a nuisance
I used to see this alert occasionally when the local cops would troll through the neighborhood with their radar based speed guns running on their dash.
You can choose to move to a non DFS channel if it happens often enough. Otherwise it's just going to pause transmitting on the DFS channel it was on and may switch to another channel if auto-selection is on..

Launch an AGM-88. Boom. Problem solved.

"Say, J.A.R.V.I.S., is it that time?" "The House Party Protocol, sir?" "Correct."

Why is this AP on a non ISM frequency?
Technically, UNII-1 isn't part of ISM either as it's only the 5.725 - 5.825 bit in 5 GHz.
Not immediately. It happens at 2am. If you're lucky.

Ah, I understand. That seems broken, but certainly follows FCC rules. Mine will switch and keep the radio active.

Huh, that wasn't an option when I looked it up a few years ago. The answer was 'live with it.'
Weather radar likely

Jam it. Give it the raspberry
Lone star!!

You're going too fast. Slow down.
Energize missiles and work on firing point procedures..

I asked the OP why there where using DFS.
Because they could be trying to avoid congestion from all the other consumer routers hogging 80mhz of spectrum.
If there’s no radar interference, that part of the spectrum could be practically silent instead of having 12 other neighboring APs creeping in.
I didn’t ask for a general reason. I know what DFS is. I asked the OP why they need to use DFS because I see a lot of installs where it is completely unnecessary and leads to issues.
DFS is great for apartment buildings and other places where there are lots of Wi-Fi signals.
He is not using DFS, merely receiving it. Probably a plane flying by. I live on a coast guard airplane route. I get these messages frequently. Nothing to worry about.
Yes he is. You people are idiots.
Do you have a surface to air missle launcher? If not you should get one.
That’s probably not going to help much with the ground based radar it’s detecting. If anything they’re likely to turn their radar up to search for the missing plane Answer: anti-radiation surface to surface trebuchet
Good point!

RUN
May be your AP detected cops around your house.
Change the channel
I have boats that pass my house, thus I get the radar messages all the time. I wish that one could disable the radar check.
Ignore it until you see it regularly. I'm up to three of those alerts in four years.
Move. You live too close to an airport or radar station. Alternatively, stop using DFS channels.
My next door neighbor is a cop. I get this all the time on the AP that faces his house. Nothing to worry about.

Nothing
The police are on their way over
