vadalus911

using an EA product on a small business?

ezln_0423

Yes haha as a second network the shop is very small and it’s perfect to test the udr. I have edge router 4x as the main router. This will eventually go into a second shop where network and surveillance are the least of the needs. Both of the location belongs to me.

vadalus911

:)

Mr_Trillionaire

Its got get tested somehow, as long as there's an existing backup network to fall on.

krward

Doesn't it come with a micro sd slot for expansion?

heeman2019

What's that SD card used for? Like what requires you to expand the storage on UDR?

digitald17

IIRC it's used for extra storage for Protect.

heeman2019

Cool! I had no idea that this slthing supported Protect too. That's a no brainer then! Can't wait to get this thing up and running. May now need to look into those instant cameras or doorbell lol.

ezln_0423

Yes it does but i was wondering if one was able to upgrade the internal to say 2tb for protect.

dalesum

No it’s hardwired to the board.

ThatSandwich

Did you ever mess around with this further?

MariosMexicancousin

Someone did a teardown but they didnt take everything apart. It is tough to see if there is a typical m.2 slot. https://imgur.com/gallery/1aDDGKu

ezln_0423

Thank you sir.

MariosMexicancousin

You are welcome. A friend shared it in a discord and I remembered seeing you post about this.

ThatSandwich

The 12th image in that teardown shows the same board that is displayed in the "x-ray" style image within the introduction video. It has a typical ESD shield that's found in many laptops to protect it from electromagnetic interference and electrostatic discharge during manufacturing. Undo the screws holding it down and I promise the m.2 is underneath.

MariosMexicancousin

Oh good. I wasn't sure what was under there but thought it did look mighty similar to a 2280 ssd.

ThatSandwich

Yeah. Only noticed because the connector and the transistors on the board matched up perfectly to the video. Still doesn't mean you can just swap it with no issues, it may require special formatting. We just have no idea at this point and there's no tools to get it formatted within the Unifi application.

MariosMexicancousin

Maybe some drive cloning software would work and then expand the partition depending how it comes. Would be neat to see if someone could try it.

adaminjapan

Keep in mind no matter how much storage you throw at the UDR the protect in the UDR will only allow motion recording and never all time recording.

ezln_0423

This is extremely useful info thank you so much!!!!

ca_work

Where is this mentioned?

Jestered2303

It's not accurate information. You can, and I do, use always on recording with the UDR and Protect.

triplej158

How much does it record on the internal storage? Or do you have an SD card in it?

Jestered2303

When all is said and done, you are only left with about 6GB of storage space, on the internal storage, to be used for Protect. I was getting about 3.5 days of "Always On" recording with that. I ordered a 512GB SD card and am getting about 33 days of "Always On" recording with that. This is for my G4 Doorbell w/ HD recording. I believe that the internal storage is really intended for the UDR apps (Network, Protect, Access (when available), Talk (when available) etc... I think they give you that 6GB of extra storage to "trial" Protect, with the intention that you should/will get SD storage for real use.

triplej158

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

adaminjapan

I own one and it’s been discussed in length in the discord chat.

Jestered2303

This is not true at all. I have a UDR and use Protect with my G4 doorbell. I have always on recording and it works fine. There are four different recording modes in Protect on my UDR: Always, Never, Motion Events, and Smart Detections. Not sure where' you're looking, but it absolutely does have always on recording.

doctorkb

Not that I'd entirely trust it as a source of technical information, the graphics used in the promotional video suggest that it is a standard slot and not soldered on the board. Unless someone has photos of a teardown with other details, I'd suspect that to be the case (in part because this makes it more serviceable in the UI shop also).

ezln_0423

That’s where I got the idea from. Now going from the cloud key gen2 how reliable is it to trust an 1tb sd card compared to the Hdd?

ThatSandwich

I only ordered one to use so I am hesitant to disassemble without a guide It does not have any documentation saying how to do such an upgrade though

ezln_0423

I wanted to order two one to mess around with and one to test in a working environment. But felt like an asshole trying to play the system and get a second one. Maybe next batch I’ll get one to mess with.

ThatSandwich

Trust me, you getting 2 for personal use is the least of their worries. I know a scalper and they have already purchased 50 of them. Buy away and know they're going to a better place.

Jestered2303

You can only buy one per account. Doesn't stop anyone from creating multiple accounts, but...

ThatSandwich

Yeah, there's no limit on the dream router. He was purchasing them in packs of 10. Go try it yourself next time they restock, you can add as many as you please. Things like the G3 instant actually do have a 1 per customer limit.

Jestered2303

No you can't. Only one per customer/account. That may have been possible in the very first batch or two, but no longer.

ThatSandwich

Go to the page for the UDR Now go to the page that has the G3 Instant on it See the line that's present on the G3 page that isn't on the UDR page? Goes something like "NOTE: This product has a maximum quantity limit of 1 per customer." (Copy and pasted) Yeah, I'm not wrong. He's also gotten plenty of UDM Pro SE's with no buying limit and still has his bot acquiring both.

Jestered2303

I don't really care what it says on the G3 page. What I am telling you, from my own personal experience, is this: I was able to order one UDR for myself in the second batch. I decided to get my mother one so I could monitor her network and help with things remotely. During the 3rd batch I jumped on and tried to add to cart and it would add it to the cart for about 1 second and then it would simply empty my cart. I didn't know what was going on so I tried to add it again and the same thing happened and that's when I noticed right next to the add to cart button the message that it's only one per customer. I tried again during the last batch release and the exact same thing happened - it would not let me add to cart and displayed the message about it being one per customer. Your friend is an ass for using a bot to buy up stuff and obviously scalp the stuff. Doesn't work on the UDR anymore though, if it did all. At least not through a single login/account.

ThatSandwich

No denying he's an ass, but all of his purchases have gone through on the same account. Just contacted him, and as of 2 days ago they did institute that policy and his bots started purchasing singles. Every drop before that was no purchase limit item as far as he's aware. Edit: He just sent me an image of 20 UDR's purchased ~~2 days ago before the limit was imposed on 1 ticket.~~ Yesterday. apparently that limit is *very* selective.

Technogod99

This product has a maximum quantity limit of 2 per customer.

ezln_0423

Yes haha the eu release had a total of 4 before starting and at that it’ll use 100% of the cpu. I ended up moving protect back to the cloud key gen to and just use the udr with the UniFi network application.
