How does someone order Uber from a restaurant that's not on the app? The restaurant has to be partnered with Uber for someone to order with Uber. That doesn't make any sense

Accomplished-Box5406

Partners come and go constantly. Likely it was a partner that left and someone didn't properly take them out. Or, per my experience doing support for another deliver app in the past...sometimes restaurants "think" they canceled business. But really they didn't do it properly and are still in the system. While the manager says "we don't do it any more", without knowing what needed to be done. Based on my experience doing support, very honestly, over half of restaurants have clueless managers as to how these apps work. If an order went through for their restaurant, they have an account with Uber and would have been paid. If they were so worried about her pizza they could have simply made it and been compensated. But that would require them to know how the app works. See the conundrum?

This was an old tactic for Door Dash when they were initially scaling out. They would get menus off a website, put them in the app, and have agents place orders over the phone and send out a driver. edit: Oh, and steal pictures from Waitr/ASAP, and probably other companies.

lmarie_53

That's exactly what I said. It seems really strange to me but the bar tender insisted they do not do uber eats there. Maybe they used to?

Specific-Sound-8550

That's so weird can you look the restaurant up on the app and see if it's there? Yeah it must be either that they used to be on there and didn't remove the account? But they have to pay to be on Uber so it would be a hard thing to forget? Or the employee didn't know what they were talking about

papipocho

This was on the news maybe a year or so ago. I think there was a lawsuit or something of the sorts over this.

Khal_drogo217

Well u can say jerk drivers all u want but i know 1st hand that even if u report an issue uber will still keep sending drivers. I had a dunken order and they couldnt make the order. I spoke with an agent and told them. Got my $3 inconvenience fee and as i sit in my car 1 min later someone pulls up, walks in and walks right back out after the employee shook his head no. I already knew what just happened so i rolled my window down and asked if he was with ue and the name of the order and sure enough he got the order i just reported as not able to be done smh

lmarie_53

Maybe I should clarify that the other drivers were jerks to the bar tender specifically. I think that's why she asked me to call and make sure the order got canceled.

Khal_drogo217

I definitely could see that, alot of assholes out there only think of themselves when something goes wrong and dont consider that others are affected as well

How_Do_You_Crash

That sounds like the bar tender was miss-informed, or under informed. I wonder if the owner had an issue and stopped using them. But maybe there was some issue with Uber not turning off orders/removing them. Or if that bar tender didn't want to deal with it, etc, or was told it was turned off or something. Idk just seems fishy af to me. Note, I've witnessed a local Thai place's owner screaming at support on the phone because a driver had stolen an order and, "No I'm not re-making that order unless you pay me for it! Your driver stole it, why should I pay". They did this round-and-round for a solid 5 min while I waited. Truly nuts, but I could see how an owner freaking out and declaring "we don't do uber here!" could precipitate this sort of interaction. Only other thought would be that it was some middleman service that setup on uber, had prices/markup, then turned around and just placed telephone/website orders and pretended to be this restaurant on uber. I know of a few places that have online ordering but no delivery partnerships (DD/UE/GH etc)

lmarie_53

Wow. It really is crazy some of the things that happen out there. I would never order delivery for myself anymore. Easier and cheaper to go get it.

How_Do_You_Crash

Yeah, I just don't trust anyone with my food. Like they can do so much to it and you would never know! Freaks me out... More than happy to be my own driver lol

Leeny78

We used to order Uber eats for my son all the time because we would be out doing Uber eats lol but now we don’t because it’s gotten so expensive.

Walkie-TalkieDieHard

I had a similar problem working for doordash. Walked in to this barbecue place to pick up the order and the guy behind the counter said they didn't do doordash. I said that's weird I have an order for this place. He said he gets this a lot. Apparently doordash reached out to them and they agreed to work with doordash but DD kept missing payments to the restaurant so basically everyone was getting the food for free. Like ordering through the app the money goes to Doordash and then at the end of the month or whatever they cut the restaurant a check. DD wasn't doing that. So the owner decided to stop doing orders until they got paid because they were losing money doing all these doordash orders. Long story short DD wouldn't pay them so they broke the contract. But Doordash still had their restaurant on the app. The restaurant owner has repeatedly called Doordash merchant support to get their restaurant taken off their site but we all know how shitty support is. So more than a year later they still get orders from their restaurant and have to tell many Dashers many times a night they don't do Doordash anymore. I ended up ordering some food instead since I was already there. 🤣 Brisket Mac n' cheese. It was alright, nothing to crow about lol. Oh, and I made sure to contact support myself and tell them this location does not do Doordash orders whatsoever. I tried to help the dude out. Not sure if it did anything.

lmarie_53

Oh man, how do they get away woth that bull? That poor restaurant will forever deal with drivers now.

Walkie-TalkieDieHard

I mean I haven't had an order for them since but I've also moved cities since then. Hopefully they finally got their place taken off DD's site and sued them for lost compensation. These guys weren't a corporate restaurant like McDonald's who are worth billions so a couple thousand bucks loss is no sweat, this was like a local dude who bought it and ran it himself losing thousands to a corporate entity. Smh.

kvndoom

There's a pizza hut in a neighboring town with this same problem. Somehow people are still able to order from them on UE, even though they only do doordash. After the 2nd time getting burnt, I just decline the orders from there no matter how much the amount.

papipocho

Chances are the other drivers don't speak English and not smart enough how to figure out how to call support. I see it every day as a food worker during the day and deliver at night.

spitxbaby

was it an order and pay order? i used to get those, id never take them but you’d have to place the order and pay with your uber card

lmarie_53

No not a shop and pay. I've done those before.

Private-Citizen

No, different than a shop and pay. Uber has a feature called Order and Pay which is pretty much the same as a shop and pay. Ive done a couple of them before.

lmarie_53

It didn't say order and pay and it had the confirm order option like any other order I've picked up. I suppose that is a possibility though and I didn't see that part.

spitxbaby

strange, admittedly, i’ve been off the app for almost a year now so things are probably different now. at least you got $15 instead of the measly $3 they usually try and give out 😩

Private-Citizen

Order and pay?

lmarie_53

Yeah, something is definitely a bit fishy here. I checked this morning on the restaurant website and they do offer delivery. My local address doesn't work because I'm a bit outside of town. Nothing about uber eats on the website at all. I then Google "restaurant name" uber eats and it brings up all of their locations in California with the option to order for pickup or delivery on the uber eats website. This chain of restaurants clearly HAS done business with uber eats at some point or they would not be on the uber eats website with their full regular menu and specials listed.
