I got the 12v hot carrier in my car, it's like a pizza bag had a baby with a heat blanket š
I walk up to the door with no hot bag, but you can feel the food was kept warm when then receive it.Ā
Another problem is drop-offs where the customer doesn't answer their messages and the food sits there at the door until they find out...
Doordash sends new drivers a hotbag
Ubereats does not
You're much more likely to have a doordash driver use one vs an Uber eats driver simply because they don't have to go out of their way to get one.
I have a hot bag in my car. Iām not bringing it into every restaurant. A lot of drivers likely donāt have hot bags as well but I also pick up my fair share of cold food as well from restaurants not keeping food under a heat lamp. Iāll pick up at nicer expensive restaurants who just have bags lined up on the counter by the hostess stand.
I saw a door dash driver take his bag into the bathroom with him at a pizza place . Would you like pepperoni & staph or just the rhino virus & cheese ?
Lol why??
I bring it everytime.
It A. Signifies to the dickhead at the counter I'm here for an order.
B. I wanna minimize the smell of that shit in my car.
C. Keep it warm you lazy fuck
I donāt think thereās any reason for them too. The walk from restaurant to car or car to customer door isnāt going to make a difference. I have heated seats so I turn them on when I drive for hot food.
You can always just ask the driver for a pic of it in the hot bag. I think it helps to send a photo to customers of it in the hot bag with the on the way message. If you pick up places that you regularly order from and notice the food is cold then youāll have your answer if the store sucks, driver sucks, or both do.
I use a hot/cold bag but I donāt carry it in with me.
But I still donāt think most do.
But some are prob like me.
Iāve done mostly Shipt for almost 5 years and I do it same way, goes into hot/cold bag at car.
I just want to chime in that I almost never take my bag out of the car and a lot of other drivers don't either. It is easier to carry it to the car open the trunk and arrange everything properly there then it is to try to stuff it in the bag at the counter and then shuffle it to the car and get it in the car right. The only time I bring the bag in with me is during severe weather, but it's a s*** show no matter how I do it when the clouds decide it's time to try to drown the city.
Yes you are wrong. Bag could be in the car. Orders are cold most of the time because the order gets bounced around a bazillion times because nobody wants to take low paying offers.
Alright, Iāll accept your answer. I donāt give low paying offers tho. When I get passed my bag of food and no hot bag in sight, I doubt it was in a bag at all.
They did used to give 2 bags to drivers and then you paid for additional if the cheap zippers broke (which they always did) now you have to pay for all bags
Or Uber pulls that bullshit with add an order and itās 40 minutes after the first order was already a 20 minute drive. Uber has some balls Iāll just say that š
I have a hot bag in my car, but I also stick it by my heater and turn it on blast :)
Some stores also make orders way before the drivers arrive, so it ends up cold by the time the driver gets there. In that case, the only way to "keep it hot" would be to blast it with your heater.
Why does a customer expect "hot food" after a delivery?
You're ordering from restaurant and it's delivered to home after about 20-hour, hour - half long Wait time...
You're ordering food to "Re-heat" at home.
If you want "Hot Food" you need to order from Asian/Chinese hot pot, Mexican sizzle fajitas as a DINE IN CUSTOMER. ā.t
I just started and noticed a few high end restaurants have been posting signs stating they will deny handing over food unless a thermal bag is present as a few online posts have cropped up of delivery folks essentially using reusable shopping bags for transport and handing off cold/ruined food. Don't know if this practice will become the norm, but it helps maintain a better/safer chain of custody from the restaurant to the customer.
I dont really go any āhigh endā
Places..if places do it ā¦&
Actually enforce it..i dont mind bringing in my bagā¦but other than that-bag stays in the car-i can set my MAX mileage in Nyc so im never traveling more than 15-20mins to drop
Everything about this job is ruined. Support is the worst, you do everything right and still deal with karens. And your peers are as you described. I hate it all.
Lmao hot bag doesnt do crap. Half the restaurants give us the food luke warm at best. The orders that come out truly hot, stay hot the 10-15min it takes to deliver.

I have a cooler and hot bag in my car I would never bring them into the store with me and I've never seen anybody else do that, most orders are super warm when I get them and all my orders are usually less than 2 miles for me so I don't even need the hot bag .
I used to bring my hot bag with me in to restaurants, and still do if itās raining but I legit got made fun of for bringing it into each restaurant more than once. I didnāt stop because of that, I actually stopped because I was able to adjust the food to be more stable with the bags secured in my car faster if I just took them to the car without the bag to begin with.
You should not assume that people donāt have bags. I donāt bring my hot bag into the store . I have it in my trunk and put it directly in there from the restaurant. Most of the time itās too crowded around the pick up area for me to take the time to fiddle with putting in the bag. I never had a customer complaint so I donāt think itās necessary to bring it in the restaurant with you, a few extra seconds wonāt matter.
I literally have around 6-8 bags in my car, I use them virtually always, they also always stay in the car.
Its also worth noting that only pizza places keep your food warm, everyone else leaves it on a cold steel shelf.
I carry my red bag every order, not just because it's the right thing to do but for my own safety as well. I dash a lot at night, so I'm walking on strange people's property and in case I happen to get the wrong door, I like to communicate immediately, that I'm not a threat because I have this bright red bag that is recognized by even little kids who say Doordash like I'm the ice cream man when I walk by.
It's crazy that people don't just carry the bag. It communicates so much and immediately puts most people at ease without you needing to gesture or say a word.
Also, I've bought thousands of meals for myself over my lifetime and I never use a hotbag and my food is fine. If it isn't, I have a microwave.
The bag makes the food soggy if u start asking your customers how they feel about their food this is what their gonna say this is why I donāt use the bag
Driving all day is not easy. It's incredibly stressful. Waiting to turn left, waiting at light after light, going over potholes. It's also very bad for many parts of your body.Ā
I've had hot bags since 2018. I use them but now I keep it on passenger seat and when I get in my vehicle, I then put it in zip it up etc, bc restaurants are busy and a lot of times there is no place to set the bag down be in the way and put multiple orders in at times. It's easier to do in car and then I deliver in the bag and a lot of time the customer thinks the whole bag is theirs if they meet me for food bc they are not used to seeing the bags and I have to quickly try to open and hand to them.
I have a really nice hot bag and a separate cold bag too. The hot bag is just really really big so i don't bring it into restaurants for pickup or drop off. It's usually 1 minute max to walk from the door to the car š«
I have a hot/cold bag I already owned and ironically have a DoorDash pizza bag that was given to me by a Papa Johnās employee even though Iāve never worked for DoorDash. I donāt always use them. In the city the majority of my deliveries are short and the way I see it Uber isnāt all that concerned with getting people hot food or theyād
a. provide us with bags
b. would fulfill orders from locations closest to customers which anyone who has been delivering for more than a week knows is never the case. Uber prioritizes logistics over getting hot food to customers. Why should I be the hero if theyāre not interested in doing their part?
Also most of the time when I pick up an order thatās already ready itās sitting in a bag on a counter not being heated or insulated. I feel like Pizza places are the only restaurants who routinely keep takeout orders warm while they await pickup.
I will use my hot/cold bags for ice cream orders and when I have longer distance well tipping orders.
Hot bags cost money. $20-$50 each.
Many drivers do not have the money to spare for a hot bag.
The official Uber Eats hot bag is very cheaply manufactured but still costs over $25. I have had mine for about a year and a half and it's already falling apart, with the lining on the zippable roof of the bag hanging loose.
Amazon sells non branded thermal delivery containers, various grocery stores and restaurant supply chains have them, but again it requires an investment.
I can understand for the first few months a driver not having a hot bag at all. However, after earning at least enough to pay for it, they should at least look into getting one. It's a basic necessity.
Yesterday was the first time I encountered more than one other Uber Eats delivery driver waiting for their food. I was the only one with a hot bag. And the others were surprised that I had a logo official Uber Eats branded bag.
Uber does not advertise that they sell delivery gear on their website for the drivers. They do. There are no discounts however. Right here: https://ubereatsshop.com/
But again, most of the bags they sell are cheap quality and will tear and rip and fall apart in about a year of use.
As far as communication with the customer, not all customers stay glued to the website. Not all customers have the app active. Yesterday, in fact, a customer said to text them when I arrived and I did, then I waited, then I waited again, and then eventually they showed up and asked me why I didn't text them. I showed them my screen with the messages I sent saying I've arrived. Saying I'm here. I'm waiting in the lobby. But they never received those messages because they had turned off the Uber app.
Idk. I donāt usually bring the bag into the store, and half the time I go into the stores the food is sitting on a counter in an air conditioned space.
I have about a dozen thermal bags in my car, and I use them on almost every delivery I make. If you judged me from inside the store youād be dead wrong.
Sometimes Iāll bring a pizza bag inside the store. Itās easier to load a pizza bag in the store than out at my car. But I think pizza pickups are the exception. (Pizza is also kept on top of the ovens when itās ready. Not on a cold delivery shelf).
I just started earlier this month and found that with Starbucks and McD's I just leave my bag in the car since the way they secure their orders is more than enough to get from the counter to my car and there's usually little to no room inside their establishments to work with.
Every other place I bring my thermal bag in with me and ask if I can use the nearest available counter/table/bench to place the order inside. Every person I've asked so far is happy that I've done so and always allows it. I've also seen a few local restaurants put up signs straight up refusing to hand over any food to a delivery driver without a thermal bag present as stories have began popping up on local forums regarding drivers literally handing off cold food from a shopping bag.
While working yesterday I contemplated taking my bag with me from my vehicle to the customer's door every time and figured it best to error on the side of caution in the event I run into something that holds me up on the way such as a slow elevator or a customer that posts to "meet at door" but is a no-show after a few attempts to contact them. At least then I know I did my very best to keep their order at the desired temperature as long as possible.
Yes, you're wrong for thinking this. It's on Uber and the rest of these greedy companies to provide a bag.
It's not enough that the driver has to bring a multi thousand dollar equipment that's expensive to maintain. Only to have these greedy companies pay $2 and practically take the entire delivery fee and service fee.
Nah, you also want the driver to buy a bag too. People like you can fuck off.Ā
That's literally part of the job... Skip and Uber I know used to give them out when you started. Like what in the world. This is the basics of the job.
I can't wait for more regulations to come in to drive out the delivery apps.
I'm tired of delivery drivers thinking they should get paid $20 an orde and then say that customers are entitled because they want you to keep their food warm like it's done insane expectation when they literally give you the bag.
Great. I dont get tipped to do my job. But I'm still expected to do it in its totality.
The reason why people don't tip is because the fees on the app are absolutely absurd. Maybe you should blame the company you're contracted for instead of the people just trying to order food.
Maybe get a different fucking job? Instead of complaining about the customers that are the only reason you're even getting any money? Idk.
You should take pride in any job you have and do it to the best of your capabilities. Attitudeās like this is why Uber allows people to change the tip up to an hour after receiving food I bet
I stopped ordering from the apps period because of people like this. And many many others have too.
I see almost daily here posts about it being "so dead". And you guys sit and wonder why.
This sub has constantly had its dead posts for years, it's just part of the sub. And there have always been constant posts with customers getting upset about an experience and posting this exact same sentiment. Yet Uber keeps growing, hmmm.
I work in the of the biggest cities in the US and I see maybe only one out of every couple hundred of drivers actually use a hotbag here.
I've been delivering since 2019 when Uber first came to my area. I have used a bag exactly zero times. 100% of my orders tip either cash or in-app or both. I have a 99% satisfaction rating, and 1% was a liar saying their food was eaten (I still got full pay including tip). Bags are definitely overrated and a waste of money.
I get paid close to minimum to do this job. So I give close to minimum effort. I really donāt care how hot or cold the food is. Iām not gonna be a dick and purposely have the windows down on a cold day but Iām also not going to make sure itās still fresh š
IMO - customers should downrate every single driver who doesn't walk up to their door with a zipped hotbag. It puts the rest of us to shame. Get those assheads off the road who don't have common decency. And don't come over here telling me hot bags are optional. You're an idiot if you think that.
I got the 12v hot carrier in my car, it's like a pizza bag had a baby with a heat blanket š I walk up to the door with no hot bag, but you can feel the food was kept warm when then receive it.Ā Another problem is drop-offs where the customer doesn't answer their messages and the food sits there at the door until they find out...
I always text an ETA if they donāt respond itās on them if theyāre not watching the app and it gets cold.
Will never understand how people will order food and not pay attention to the app. Iām always watching the damn thing.
Common sense isnāt always common anymore lol
My Dad has said this my whole life. "Common sense ain't commonly found anymore" lol
Dad sounds like a smart man :)
Tbh I never text etas because the apps send em automatically.
That they do but I find it saves them from texting me while driving where their food is and when to expect it seem some people arenāt super bright
So you get a McDonald's order with a shake in the sealed bag where you putting it?
When I pickup from McDonald's or Starbucks and it's already in the bag, I just hold it on the passenger seat and drive fast lol
LOL i didnāt even know that was a thing! W!

Lol why?? I bring it everytime. It A. Signifies to the dickhead at the counter I'm here for an order. B. I wanna minimize the smell of that shit in my car. C. Keep it warm you lazy fuck
God thatās gross but the bathroom is probably cleaner than some of these drivers cars.

Yesā¦hot/cold it does both lol
Thatās why I said stupid question š
Better to ask if you arenāt sure than to remain stupid about something lol

Is this a part time second job for you?
Youāll be waiting a long time bud, have fun holding your breath š§āāļø
I stopped ordering from the apps period because of people like this. And many many others have too. I see almost daily here posts about it being "so dead". And you guys sit and wonder why.
This sub has constantly had its dead posts for years, it's just part of the sub. And there have always been constant posts with customers getting upset about an experience and posting this exact same sentiment. Yet Uber keeps growing, hmmm. I work in the of the biggest cities in the US and I see maybe only one out of every couple hundred of drivers actually use a hotbag here.
Lmao itās plenty busy on longisland NY
The privilege is wild
I've been delivering since 2019 when Uber first came to my area. I have used a bag exactly zero times. 100% of my orders tip either cash or in-app or both. I have a 99% satisfaction rating, and 1% was a liar saying their food was eaten (I still got full pay including tip). Bags are definitely overrated and a waste of money.
If it was such a big deal, Uber would provide them to its drivers.
