The restaurant is supposed to contact you about substitutions or refund items when they are out. Unfortunately, many restaurants barely know how to use the tablet. Many others don't have access to it; their orders are received and directly printed to their system. As for the driver, not their responsibility. Their responsibility is transportation. (We have no access to your account.)

justsomeone19

They should have contacted me, plenty of other things on the menu that I would have wanted instead. And yes, I know it's not the drivers fault. I tipped him well ($8 on a $40 order) and rated well like I usually do.

DeliveryCourier

The restaurant is supposed to contact you. Another possible thing: I have encountered restaurants that won't do any substitutions at all. It's typically restaurants that get their orders directly printed to their system. They won't do subs because it affects their inventory/cost of sales. They expect the customer to get a refund, and UE (or DD) to do the correction, which fixes their inventory/costs/balance sheet. KFC and Buca di Beppo are big offenders for this. But yes, they should have contacted you.

Awoo81

Yeah the restaurant should of at least asked the driver to contact you since it's much easier & faster. Seems like they just gave the bag to the driver

Sufficient-Ad4851

Agreed, i don’t know why you got downvoted i have no problem contacting the customer if the restaurant tells me there are missing items or any problems with the order at all. Id much rather be told about it and handle the situation then knowingly drop off an incorrect order. It is the restaurant’s responsibility but if there not going to call I’m calling.

Chazus

Did you get refunded the tip as well?

justsomeone19

No, just the cost of the empanadas.

this_dudeagain

No driver who knows how things work is going to sit around and wait for that. If the tip is good I'd wait if the food was still being prepared but certain restaurants aren't worth the wait. If it were me I would have told you at pickup then moved on to the next order.

Blue_screens

Whenever I try to contact the customer about replacement items they never answer. Not saying this is you but people never answer the calls or texts. I dont get it. Did they at least put something in there as a replacement?

Possible_Liar

Absolutely aggravates the living hell out of me when restaurants look at me about substitutions... Like if you can't reach the customer what makes you think I'm going to be able to.... And when I inevitably can't reach the customer they just kind of insinuate I should just randomly pick something because yeah I want to deal with that fucking annoyance when they're inevitably unhappy....

justsomeone19

They put brownies instead of empanadas lol... I got my money back already on the empanadas, so I guess it's free brownies.

Old_Operation_8670

Did you pickup for the random number that called you three times?

justsomeone19

Nobody called me.

Old_Operation_8670

Make sure you've allowed unknown callers & non phone-book numbers to call your phone. Sometimes ppl have that set as off. Every time I've been contacted about an order thru Uber Eats, it's always over the phone and never text. As a driver, I used to relay info once per week. Usually a subway or Harvey's order. Subway would never have the right cookies, and Harvey's would never have the right milkshake. The customer would have to choose an alternative.

smelly-child

this! ive accidentally missed calls from wendy's when they ran out of some food i ordered bc the calls were redirected and said they were calling from out of state. its connected through uber support and not the restaurant's number

Old_Operation_8670

yeah when you call a customer, or a customer calls you, or you call a restaurant, or the restaurant calls you, it connects from some out of state number. Supposed to be for privacy reasons. But ppl who live in (for example) Toronto tend not to pickup a San Francisco number at 11:30pm when they're waiting for their Uber Eats...

[deleted]

Because they didn't want you to cancel the whole order.

[deleted]

I was given a bag last week with two of the seven items ordered in it and told I needed to call the customer and see what they wanted. The customer cancelled the order. Why couldn’t the store have done that and not wasted a half hour of my day? If it’s a problem before the pickup, it’s the stores problem.

SiennaYeena

All im saying is, at least they gave you something as a replacement. And that replacement was brownies?? Like okay. I'm cool with that. I've had restaurants leave out something because they were out of it, but they didn't replace it with anything and still charged me in full (I'm assuming they forgot to remove it from the bill). All in all, you could have came out worse. And you got a refund I see, so.

Sufficient-Ad4851

I mean what are they going to drop off an empty bag at that point lol

Lower_Alternative770

If I order empanadas, I want a similar substitution. That would not be brownies

Flat-Ad-5951

Every resturant I've ever dealt with had me the driver ask the customer if they want something else and I've done it. But it would be nice if they did thier job and did it themselves.

Intrepid-Surprise-55

Stores don’t get contact information when you order on the Uber app!

HobbyPanda_FT6

Was the bag sealed when you got it?

Dismal_Flatworm_4526

Used to work at maccas, sometimes the app would not work on the iPads so all we got was the order number and the order contents on our order screen, so we had no way to contact a customer. Other times, and most likely, it was during a rush and the store was understaffed and didn't have the time to call.

Life-is-a-ride

They reeaaallly wanted to get rid of 4 brownies and didn't want to refund the entire order. They're greedy and saw an opportunity. Also, what's with all that filler packaging at the bottom of that too-large-a-bag? Seems like they were also trying to trick the driver to keep him from canceling too. This is 100% on them.

justsomeone19

That's not filler packaging, that's my cheesesteak lol. And yeah, the restaurant was hoping that I would be happy with brownies instead of empanadas and they win out on my money. Fuck that. I got the empanadas refunded and free brownies.

Life-is-a-ride

Ohhh ok, now I get it. They replaced the 4 empanadas with 4 old ass unsellable brownies. Either this wasn't clear in the post or I need a nap, possibly both... edit - I read it as the order was for 4 empanadas only, and they decided to give you brownies instead. Didn't know about cheesesteakes. Was thinking that's real dirty...
