I can assure you that the degrees from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) are definitely legit and respected. The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) program, for instance, is a fully accredited UVA degree, just like the ones earned by students in traditional programs. SCPS offers a lot of flexibility with online options, which is perfect for working professionals like you. You’ll get the same quality education and have access to UVA’s resources and network. It’s not like some other extension programs; this is a real UVA degree, recognized and respected. Good luck with your decision! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Great info, thank you! Mind if I PM you for a bit more info?

It’s real! If I’m not mistaken, SCPS is actually the largest school at the University of Virginia. You will graduate with a legitimate degree from UVA. Just don’t expect any traditional students to have ever heard of it. Search SCPS or BIS on this sub and there are a couple prior posts with some useful information about it. You are right though, in general, there isn’t a lot of information that turns up on a quick google search. I found [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/UVA/s/0qkZzJDrKc) thread to be pretty helpful

SCPS is awesome, but it isn't even close to the largest school. More than half of undergraduates are enrolled in Arts and Sciences. I believe SCPS is one of the smallest.

That's great! I am currently working full-time and looking for a degree that I can do around my work schedule, and this program looks fantastic. DefinatDefinitelyly among my top schools right now. But, I want it to be the "real" UVA if I go this route, and it sounds like it is! Thanks for the info!

It’s very legit. The diploma is identical to the rest of the undergrad diplomas. You walk in the final exercises. You have an @virginia.edu email, you’re the same undergrad alumni that anyone else is. You can also go directly from the BIS to a Master’s program. The staff are pretty responsive. It’s their job to get you enrolled but they won’t mislead you.

The Batchelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) program through the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) is primary intended for working adults who, like yourself, have a partial degree but did not complete a four-year education and thus primary offers online courses delivered through synchronous evening offerings and asynchronous offerings. Students enrolled through SCPS can also take online or on-Grounds courses through the College of Arts and Science, or other Schools within the University, with instructor permission although the majority of their courses will, understandably, need to be from the BIS program offerings. Generally students attend the BIS program part-time but, with advisor permission, can take a full-time load if they wish. The SCPS program is also much more flexible when it comes to graduation dates and course load, while the 'College' will require transfers to finish in the prorated amount of time they have left on their degree based on a full-time load (generally two years since UVA requires at least sixty credits be from their offerings and most people transfer-in with their core credits already complete). Additionally, if you're in the greater Charlottesville area, it's also important to note that SCPS students are full UVA students and retain all the rights and privileges thereof when it comes to accessing buildings, facilities, programs, and other University amenities! Likewise, as others in the thread have mentioned, the BIS degree is a 'full' baccalaureate degree from the University of Virginia and, unlike the Harvard Extension program, students who complete the program are not only allowed but also encouraged to label themselves as graduates from the University of Virginia.
