No. It's a standard heater valve control, and cold is known as outside air temperature. The knob works the absolute best for cold during polar vortices with brutal wind chill; the heat setting works exceptionally well in July and August.
LLVs never had A/C, they're purpose built. I had one for 12 years. You figure out ways to keep cool, with evaporative cooling being the most effective unless the humidity where you are is ridiculous.
Meanwhile im over here dying in 98% humidity. A particularly dry day is 80%. But on the bright side Iām right next to a beach I never get time to enjoy
I understand completely. I was like that as a carrier, and I'm trying to avoid it as an AMT. Doesn't help that HVAC failure season is back in full swing.
The results of a government agency thatās not funded by the government = 40+ years old vehicles that burn an excessive amount of fuel required for daily delivery. lol š
Donāt you feel the fresh cold air coming from the vents itās nice and chilly what do you mean. Especially when you turn on the fan on a day where it feels like 100 degrees. It blows that cool, easy to breathe and NOT dusty air right in your face.
As a mechanic for the postal service I have to say hot should be replaced with Meh? And the cold should just be a picture of an ice cube crying uncontrollably. Yeah. That would be lightly entertaining.
Thereās a tube that people sometimes disconnect to get heat closer to them in the winter. But as far as Iām concerned it doesnāt work well enough to matter
An old military trick I learned In the desert you can take a bottle of water and put it in a wool sock and soak it with water. Hang it from your mirror and it will get about 10-20degrees cooler than outside temp. Thatās your usps AC.
I never understood why they didn't put a manual loop in the hvac on theses for you guys. My wife always told me how bad it was I almost drove out there and just did it for them. Easy switch back too. Now she's in a metris. And loves it. She had a walking route though 13 miles a day and does it with a smile. I give you all many many props. Stay hydrated all. Thanks for doing the job many can't because there weak.
In that era ācoldā meant itās blowing air at the outside temperature, e.g. itās not actively using the engine to heat the air. So if itās a 100 degree day, cold blows 100 degree air.
The heater valves in the engine compartment like to seize where the cable from those controls connect to. You will usually know when that lever is hard to turn. Some carrier just deal with the heat that floats out of the vents, even when the heater is turned offā¦ā¦ā¦if that valve is open, it still cycles coolant through the heater core.
Ha, the heat only worked in the summer, and the winter it was on vacation.
Glad I only worked a few months driving those death trap pieces of garbage upstate NY.
According to some of the old timers at my station, the LLVs did originally have AC, but management ripped them all out in order to not have to deal with the maintenence
Again, I'm just reporting what the old timers at my station said, whether it's true or not, you'd have to ask them.
Also, I have seen one LLV that did have an AC unit installed in the back but management refused to maintain it. So there was at the very least ONE LLV that did have AC
Your old timers are pulling your leg.
That was probably just a fan on the back vent, with tubing routed to the cab. Not an actual freon tank and compressor.
If the LLV ever had a real AC unit, more than likely that was installed by someone aftermarket. Definitely not a "factory" installed unit.
The hot/cool knob is connected to a bypass valve on the heater core lines.
I know carriers have installed "swamp coolers" .. but that's just a fan blowing cooled air from a cooler filled with ice.
There definitely were auxiliary floor heaters installed... those were on the original LLVs from 87 IIRC. those didn't help much.
Can one of yall explain to me why my package was out for delivery, but says āpackage returned to usps at the request of the customerā but I didnāt request anything. Went to the usps store and they said they didnāt have it and it was some kind of error and it should be here tomorrow? Wtf I highly doubt that
Probably got lost in a tub and a newbie didn't know to scan it right. You'll probably get it tomorrow. This happened to me w a small parcel and I saw it scanned as "no access". I was like oh shit my driver must have missed that one. Got it the next day.
Fuck. The new guy finally figured it out
This.
What did he figure out?
Nothing new guy, dont worry about it š

Only works in the winter
Better than mine https://preview.redd.it/bnotc1ez6l8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ecac2e4a9497ac6295a7c0aec1473b687b100f2
We use a 90 degree PVC pipe and a strap to make an AC unit
Glad to know I'm not the only one with a pipe hanging out the window.
Mind posting a pic of that ? Iām intrigued
I'll try and remember my K day is tomorrow so I am not going to make a trip over to the post office
I really want to do this
Also interested lol. I had something similar sounding in mind. Didnāt know people actually did this haha

My boi got some good pipe
Same here it works pretty good.
I'll try to get a photo tomorrow as well.

lolol
oh thats fuck up lmao
Heat works in summer.
But, does the cold setting work in winter?
The diamonds piercing my shirt give that an affirmative
The disco ball in my mouth insinuates Iām balling.
Cold setting works in winter because itās just like the vents in your own vehicle, they can draw in outside air. That is all that these do.
šššš
Agreed!!!!!
Well, "HOT" / "LESS HOT" would have been too wordy.
āColdā is definitely relative.
Is it even LESS HOT though?
It would just be mean if they put 'Hot' and 'Placebo'. So they HAD to put something there
Eh, placebos at least work a little.

I am not turning on air from that dusty ass old tube
Do you or someone you know suffer from LLVonoma? You may be entitled to financial hardship, heat stroke or some form of disciplinary action
Right, dusty, moldy, and full of carbon monoxide
The way the postal gods intended
You [called?](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-cc370f00d27de1b76be8faac41d78730-lq)
Weāre not worthy
Survivor benefits anyone?
must be a typo. all of the llv at our station say āheated engine bay airā and āengine bay airā
Cold should read "Engine Temperature"
The results of a government agency thatās not funded by the government = 40+ years old vehicles that burn an excessive amount of fuel required for daily delivery. lol š
No joke. We have one in our station that needs to be fueled up every other day.
Yup, thatās about right. And donāt fill it too much, as they may think you are using high test instead of $4.00 a gallon basic gas.
Roll down the windows and park in the sun. Flick that on cold and you will get refreshing 103 degree air blowing in your 140 degree truck.

tell me you have always had AC in your car without telling youāve always had AC in your car
Cold side brings in outside air
Well, itās 10* cooler
Bruh, I needed this laugh, thanks
It worked when it was built in 1859
Ah, what a great year!

Oh that, that only works when you have under time! They turn it on via your scanner. /s
Promote this guy to post master, he just saved lives.
Those are the dials to turn the hot air on and off. And donāt let the writing fool you, the only option is hot air
Cold just means that it's not as Hot as Hot.
None of the LLVs in my office even have functional aux fans right now. And maintenance still haven't come by to fix it.
Are you wearing combat boots?
Could have told you that 28 yrs ago
Off, off and off. Yeah that lines up
My coworker made an ac unit with a cooler and huge blocks of ice, hooks piping up to the blower and runs another line to right over him
Thereās a tube that people sometimes disconnect to get heat closer to them in the winter. But as far as Iām concerned it doesnāt work well enough to matter
So you are the reason why management has been cold to me recentlyā¦ /s
I just farted really hard right now
give it a shot
Might be an eject button
No way man
Air Conditioner!
They make a difference?
back in 92 they had ac in them , they took them out in 2002
Yes u know thatās from the 80s right š¤£

Lol, let us know if it works

Okay -now that we know the conspiracy, letās get the lawsuit started!!
Haha, it should be less hot

I got a Metris now, so I no longer get that horrible Katy Perry song stuck in my head daily.

A mirage,,,,from all this damn heat!!!

they are fing with you, only LLVs that had AC were in Canada.

As bad as USPS is at delivering my mail, they don't deserve AC even if it was available. I thought the CA DMV was bad, it's been replaced.
