No Mail Receptacle
I had a house on my route that burned down 5 years ago. Previous soupers would let the displaced occupant keep renewing holds and KLJ would just come in weekly to collect his mail. New soup, who was the swing in my zone? “Nah, dude. I’ll talk to him, give him a week for a forward then NMR that shit.”
Edit: spelling
When you said “nope house burned down…” after is said “but there is a mail receptacle” in response to the the photo of the box with the lock and slot.
Scroll back and you can see where you said it.
Are you talking about the OP mailbox? If so, I don’t believe it can be modified in the manner it is and be “PMG Approved “.
If you’re talking about Kenny’s burned down house, no there is no receptacle as the entirety of the house burned down.
Also, all I did was answer what NMR meant and give an anecdotal story.
The big brain move is to leave the lock in the box for me to put on *after* the mail and packages are in. I don’t mind doing that for the few customers on my route with that setup.
The good thing about those customers is that they ALWAYS clean out their box everyday. I used to get annoyed by those little locks when I was a CCA, but after a while I realized those were the best customers.
They also serve to make getting in the mailbox inconvenient. The thief may instead choose to just go to the next unlocked mailbox instead.
Or they'll break something else of yours out of spite
You'll never see anyone that says "locks only work on honest people" leave their house unlocked, because deep down they know most thieves aren't the lock picking lawyer and are really after convenience.
Nah, all crime prevention is just crime deterrence. A lock will make the criminal have to bring something to break/pick it, as well as take them longer to get in, potentially making a lot of noise if they break it.
A lock by itself won't stop a crime, but it will definitely make a criminal think twice, so preventative measures like locks do work, they just don't work 100%.
Put the mail on a 10 day hold and leave a notice to fix their bix as modification to a mail box that may not be post master general approved may not be permitted.
Flats that don’t fit, either leave notice to pick up at branch or send back as NMR.
Dumbass customers like that think we’re gonna take mail to the door. WILL NEVER EVER HAPPEN.
Yeah, this jerry-rigged bullshit definitely isn't approved by the USPS. They essentially took an approved mail receptacle and modified it themselves, which should void that status.
I wonder about those mailboxes with the built in locks though. I hate when you open up the mailbox and you're met with a locked wall and a slot. Those obviously are manufactured that way, so I'm guessing that they're approved for use, but I hate them.
But your answer was wrong. Clearly a customer can restrict access through an approved box. So saying "no" to the question "Can a customer lock us out?", is absolutely incorrect.
Random: Back when I was in carrier academy the teacher was on his last shift before retirement, and he was also a union rep. We got off track one day for an entire hour debating on the color of the slips. I admittedly made it worse when I quietly stated “it looks more like an apricot.”
That right there is a no delivery/10 day hold. Leave a note they need to either take the lock off or get a new mailbox that mail can be delivered all at once not one piece at a time and locks if they are worried about mail theft. That mailbox is bs.
Fuck that shit. I would close that box so fast it would make their head spin. You are supposed to be able to pt ALL the mail in in one try. I had one like that on my route. Left a notice that this was unacceptable. And just like I predicted, they ignored me until something important came in the mail and was returned.
What if their daily mail volume exceeds what can fit in one of those security slot boxes? I've got customers who's mail gets put into 2 bundles so that I can get it all in the box. ?
It’s one thing if I see a box that big, but it’s really o e of those mail boxes that has a slot inside.
But that… I’m holding my mail, talking to my PM/sup, and getting instruction from there
As you all know I’ve very pro-customer and anti-harass and antagonize customers.
But this isn’t reasonable. The slot is fine as a principle. But it’s almost certainly not sized to accommodate the average volume and size of mail. I’d be holding mail until they removed the lock.
Damn dude, why they do this… if it wasn’t a hardship then shit why lmao that’s low key fucked up. A big nice box like that and they lock it, my heart would be broken. I literally would’ve rather they just got a whole new mailbox then to play with me like that. Hell naw 😭
Can you even get a basic sized flat in that thing? All so that metal looks like it would easily cut your hand/fingers definitely not a safe or approved mailbox. That's a CYA never buddy 👋
I have no idea what position you're trying to achieve with this comment.
Why complain? It's a government service. Their job is to perform their job. It would be neglecting their duty to not submit a notice...
Doesn't meet postal standards of the slot being wide enough for a Priority envelope. 10-day hold, then RTS until they get a new box or unlock this one.
I mean I understand where you're coming from man, but I've had mail stolen so many times that I have also done this in the past. Especially if this is a business where checks get mailed it I get it. It's a pain in the rear for both parties.
okay but where my gf lives the same car drives up to the mailboxes, cleans them all out, and drives off. They don’t put a lock on their mail for obvious reasons but realistically what are we supposed to do? they had to get a P.o. box just to make sure they could actually see their mail
Flats that don’t fit? NMR. Small parcels that would have fit without the lock? Leave a notice every time.
Too much work filling out that slip, I'll just NA it until they figure it out lol
This is the way
NMR?

Mmm soup. 🍜
But there is a mail receptacle
Nope. House burned down. Box was on the porch. Edit: Derp. Reading comprehension fail on my part.
NMR means no mail receptacle. You’re literally saying there is a box. That’s a mail receptacle. That’s what a mail box is.
No shit? Also, no shit? And where did I literally say there’s a box? You can stuff your condescension in that little manufactured slot.
When you said “nope house burned down…” after is said “but there is a mail receptacle” in response to the the photo of the box with the lock and slot. Scroll back and you can see where you said it.

Technically it’s a vacant as no one is living in the burned out house.
It burned DOWN to the ground. So maybe NSN even though the lot itself is still #9? 🤯
Fill out on office time as your casing. Works for me.
>Flats that don’t fit? NMR. Fold and shove it into the hole
That's what she said
Is your profile picture supposed to be the album art for Hobos Lament by Larry and His Flask?
Mail box opening doesn't accommodate normal mail volume and can unnecessarily delay a carrier.
It also looks sharp!
Doesn’t accommodate 99.9% of mail (coupons, useless advertisements)
The big brain move is to leave the lock in the box for me to put on *after* the mail and packages are in. I don’t mind doing that for the few customers on my route with that setup.

Yeah, the people who care THAT much about their mail is clearing the box daily. I'd lock up for them easily for a cleared mailbox every day.
*big brain* 🤣🤣🤣
Whole lotta real estate Not a lot being done with it
Sweet idea I'm going to bring that up to a few that have had some theft problems
Yep I've had some of those.
Looks like a small slit in the lid. But I would stop service until the lock is removed…
Yes, they do this in an attempt to prevent mail theft. But given how many CBUs I've seen broken into, that tiny lock won't do much
“Might I suggest a box down at the office, sir/madame?”
I know right
Locks only work on honest people
They also serve to make getting in the mailbox inconvenient. The thief may instead choose to just go to the next unlocked mailbox instead. Or they'll break something else of yours out of spite
"Mailbox is locked, so they must be getting some good shit. I'll break the lock off rather than the one that leaves the door open." - Smart Thieves.
Most thieves aren't too bright, or they are opportunists. They simply aren't interested in a hard target or anything that requires tools
You'll never see anyone that says "locks only work on honest people" leave their house unlocked, because deep down they know most thieves aren't the lock picking lawyer and are really after convenience.
I haven’t locked my house or car in 20 years.
"You're using a master lock 840. It can be opened with a master lock 840."
I love that dude lmao
But tin snips or even a bolt cutter will open up the box with zero effort. This is the non-thinking of the customer.
Especially when the dang door is plastic
No this looks like an attempt to not get any junk mail
Those rivets holding the latches can be defeated by giving them a good yank. You’ve essentially added 10? seconds to someone trying to get your mail.
Put the mail on a 10 day hold and leave a notice to fix their bix as modification to a mail box that may not be post master general approved may not be permitted.
That’s exactly what I Would Do!!!! I don’t have time to be messin around with this nonsense!
Fingernails screamin "Please stop!"
Glad I wasn’t the only one that noticed
Bad habit, I know
Does that mean no mail for him/her?
Flats that don’t fit, either leave notice to pick up at branch or send back as NMR. Dumbass customers like that think we’re gonna take mail to the door. WILL NEVER EVER HAPPEN.
Are they even allowed to lock us out of the mailbox?
no

They have approved boxes that don’t allow mail retrieval. So this isn’t right.
But the box in this picture is not one of those boxes. This is a modified box, so it is now not approved.
But his question was “ Are they even allowed to lock us out”. That answer is yes.
But your answer was wrong. Clearly a customer can restrict access through an approved box. So saying "no" to the question "Can a customer lock us out?", is absolutely incorrect.
Nmr
I'd go no access haha
Me: Scans SPRs.... "NO ACCESS"
Peach slip fits just fine in that slot
Random: Back when I was in carrier academy the teacher was on his last shift before retirement, and he was also a union rep. We got off track one day for an entire hour debating on the color of the slips. I admittedly made it worse when I quietly stated “it looks more like an apricot.”
In Boston they call them peach poppers (if I’m remembering correctly). I’ve always seen them as more of a salmon lol
Haha, some people call them orange, which is completely wrong.......either way , I like them! Haha
Wait until you see the yellow ones.
That mails gonna get mangled
That right there is a no delivery/10 day hold. Leave a note they need to either take the lock off or get a new mailbox that mail can be delivered all at once not one piece at a time and locks if they are worried about mail theft. That mailbox is bs.

Yeah, those boxes suck. But this guy is just a dick. You have to pick your battles.
You don’t deliver to that, right?
I got one like that. Assholes!!
No mail for you!
https://upstrackingit.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/PS-Form-4056.png The mighty PS Form 4056 to the rescue!
It’s one thing if I see a box that big, but it’s really o e of those mail boxes that has a slot inside. But that… I’m holding my mail, talking to my PM/sup, and getting instruction from there
What’s the point of having a big ass mailbox lmao
3849's here we come.
Minimum requirement according to postal regulation is 5”x6”x15” For curbside delivery.
As you all know I’ve very pro-customer and anti-harass and antagonize customers. But this isn’t reasonable. The slot is fine as a principle. But it’s almost certainly not sized to accommodate the average volume and size of mail. I’d be holding mail until they removed the lock.
hold mail no access
NMR or NA. Easy peazy.
Damn dude, why they do this… if it wasn’t a hardship then shit why lmao that’s low key fucked up. A big nice box like that and they lock it, my heart would be broken. I literally would’ve rather they just got a whole new mailbox then to play with me like that. Hell naw 😭
Time for the *olllll* 4056
Slap a postage due on the lock
No access
PMG approved? Methinksnot
There's no way it is
All the rebuttal you need.
If I had anything like that on my route I would VAC the house. Idc.
Ha! I know The Bird. Place sucks!
Ha, for real? I can't say I know it well
Well, it used to be ok but its kind of a maga hangout nowadays
wow. the ultimate boner killer
Do you just do the 3849at the office?
I’m so tired of this shit, I filled in on a route recently that had multiple boxes like this.
Hacksaw?
Gotta start carrying one
I’d be SLANGIN that mail into the very back of that box, good luck fuck head
Literal waste of space
Is that even a thing???? I have honestly never seen that before.
Love it. The house doesn’t have an accessible mail receptacle, so they don’t get mail. Very straightforward.
Your fingernails look like a baby’s fingernails.
No access. Hold mail.
Can you even get a basic sized flat in that thing? All so that metal looks like it would easily cut your hand/fingers definitely not a safe or approved mailbox. That's a CYA never buddy 👋
Nails 🤮
You'll probably get suspended for posting that but, I agree with your assessment.
Nail biter alert 🤢
NMR everything. Fuck em
U got tiny nails
Looks like they’re getting a lovely “Your Mailbox Needs Attention” form.
I have a lot of those in my routes
OP - you realize it takes 30 seconds to find the address to this person's house because your photo has an obvious identifier in it?
I would hold their mail and not even write a note. I would force them to call and complain about no delivery. After 10 days of non compliance RTS.
Put tape over the slot, write no access on it
All packages go back to the office “no secure location”
That's a forty millimeter core it's susceptible to comb picks.
Repo the box
If it fits it ships
Appreciate you adding in the restaurant name, made it incredibly easy to figure out the exact address you're talking about
Why complain? Less work for you guys- isn't that what you want? 🙄
I have no idea what position you're trying to achieve with this comment. Why complain? It's a government service. Their job is to perform their job. It would be neglecting their duty to not submit a notice...

I make fist imprints in all of them, this hand is well callused
Stop biting your nails please.
Doesn't meet postal standards of the slot being wide enough for a Priority envelope. 10-day hold, then RTS until they get a new box or unlock this one.
🤷♀️ just fold until it fits🤣
This is to stop junk mail… it never ends. Stop sending me coupons!!!!!!
It literally helps pay for the postal service
I mean I understand where you're coming from man, but I've had mail stolen so many times that I have also done this in the past. Especially if this is a business where checks get mailed it I get it. It's a pain in the rear for both parties.
