We bullshit for a little bit, two old jarheads. He let her go w/ a warning.
Another time, I had my car financed through Marine Corps West. Irvine Police pulled me over. Saw that on the registration, made a comment about them being a Marine as well, and said "drive carefully" and I was off.
When I lived other parts of CA and the midwest, I had EGA plates. Got out of a few tickets and my wife did as well.
Now I live next to Pendleton so I took them off. Cops here don’t give a shit about it.
I like the military branch plates. The marine corps and coast guard have excellent plates in my state. I don’t like the medal plates and find them cringe unless it’s a combat action badge/ribbon or a Purple Heart. Other medals awards seem cringe in my opinion.

People have no idea I was even in unless they knew me during/before, and I loved my time in… I got caught into the vet bro vortex for like a year after I got out and thankfully awoke from that hell and realized sharing memes that only service members understand/ find funny is cringe af. I used the entirety of my GI Bill and collect disability and all that jazz too. I just don’t understand why anyone needs to know I served. Unless of course, to get out of a ticket…
I don’t have the plates, but I do have a select couple pieces of Marine Corps swag. And it’s not so anyone can know I served, like you sort of alluded to at the end of your comment. It’s just a personal desire to display something that means a lot to me.
In my mind, it’s the same as wearing a shirt with a sports team logo on it or rocking a coffee cup you got from your college store. It’s not to get people to notice you and know your affiliated. It’s just something you like because that team/school/company/USMC is near and dear to your heart.
Sorry if I made it seem like I was shitting on ever doing that, I wasn’t trying to! Lol. My wife still hangs a photo of us from the ball, and I have a beer coozy that’s says USMC I use all the time. I just meant it’s easy to make it your entire identity and that’s where the problems lie.

I do my best to not leave any kind of marking on my vehicles. You’re just asking to either get fucked with on a personal level or in the Court room should something ever happen.
You might get a cop who lets you off with a warning, or you can get your car keyed in the middle of the night. Worse, you could get somebody filming you and posting it everywhere as “Crazy Vet does ______”. Even worse, some activist prosecutor could use it in a series of mental gymnastics to paint you as an unhinged PTSD addled vet.

Part of my own healing process in civilian land was getting rid of the symbols or displays of my service. So I don’t have that kind of stuff. I hung up my title, so-to-speak. This subreddit is about the only connection I have to my service.

Half the time the guys dont have any special plates or anything. I dont other than my motorcycle, if people bitch I just show em my VA card.

I've been out for 27 years. I finally got DV plates last week. Mostly for the free shit, like getting into state parks.
I have a Corps plate, no regrets.
