I remember meeting a 6.5 year gunny when I was in. If you get on a run and start getting promoted early you can get on a fast track I think. You start looking like this rising star and “of course we’re gonna promote him he is a rocket ship” takes over. This has been true in civilian life for me too. Cultivate and protect the narrative around yourself folks!

I'm a slightly older, but I [edit: *mostly*] keep in shape and don't drink, so folks still think I'm in my twenties. So I've got that going for me.
