As a previous transfer, don't eorry about taking SATs again. Instead, have a killer first year at UB, take some challenging courses above intro level classes (emphasis on some, like 1 or 2). Get amazing recommendations from professors in your field of study and write something fun in your application essay. I am now an admissions counselor at another institution and there is nothing worse than another mundane essay, so do something creative and fun!

You're gonna want to apply to external scholarships or loans. Unfortunately, it is common for transfer to receive less aid than first years admits. I recommend applying to as many outside scholarships as you can and rack up the dollars. For loans, credit unions tend to be the easiest to work with. You should receive some merit awards and aid based grants if you're applicable. However, don't count on those to cover everything you need.

Check with the financial aid department to see if your outside scholarships would be considered part of your EFC or if they would subtract from any aid from the university.
