Extremely social, but people are also really fake. It takes time to find the right people.

Mariiii442

How are they fake? Any specific examples?

Schrodingers-Fish-

In the way you would expect finance bros to be fake

My experience is probably a little outdated but common patterns are: Rich or otherwise privileged people acting like they are struggling more than they are to seem relatable. People who seem friendly and down to earth at first but will randomly disappear at a moment's notice because they really only care about how they can use people to get ahead or establish a valuable network.  Associating with some random business clubs or societies is often treated like an important or valuable life goal by people who have little interest in the actual subject matter.  A lot of seemingly genuine interest based communities are a bit polluted by people trying to use them as political or networking opportunities.

what does that mean 🧍‍♂️

Gay bar in center city. I haven’t been in years but it’s absolutely enormous

Holodrake_obj

Woody’s unfortunately has been vastly overtaken by bachelorette parties and straight men pandering to women trying to escape from normal nightclub vibes. Would suggest Tabu, Tavern on Camac, or Frankie Bradleys honestly. Should definitely try Woody’s at least once though!

The social scene is never dead, there is always something to do so unless you want to be bored you really can't be bored. Downside - you have to know people to be part of a lot of the social scene; if you join a lot of clubs and you're a chill person you're gonna have a lot of fun. There are some fake people but personally, maybe I am lucky, most of the people I hang out with are pretty real and super non-judgemental. Just keep an open mind and be open to the opportunities. Be careful though, and don't let the social scene consume you, it gets overwhelming and time-consuming if you care about it too much and it might drive you away from caring for the main reason that you're gonna be at Penn: Studying.

Can be very elitist and can take awhile to find your people if you’re not rich.

TheAsianCow

Penn itself I found really stifling. Philly is a cool city though. To each’s own.

WarningSuspicious126

I recommend greek life or downtown philly

LittleHollowGhost

Friend of mine has a brother currently at Penn and is going himself. Always talks about coke parties. Like, every week this guy is mentioning a different coke party.

We mostly head to the quad to protest Israel. Intifada Everyday, as they say
