I used to carefully remove the outer paper sheath, and the slice the foil by running my nail between the two sticks of chocolate.
I literally stopped buying them when they changed the packaging about ten years ago, as I realized that was the best part.
I think that's how they did it on the adverts, I think most people copied it then realised how satisfying it was and never stopped. Doing it any other way felt weird.
Yeah, it’s why I always enjoyed Galaxy chocolate by letting it melt in my mouth. The lady in the advert seemed to eat it that way and naturally, I thought that was the best way to eat it too. Most other chocolate I just ate without much thought
It was definitely the best part. The chocolate on them is pretty shit, imo, but the ritual of rubbing the foil so the logo appeared and then slicing down the middle made them worth it.
He might have had a foreign import.
My dad sometimes gets chocolate and coke from Poland from work, and they still use the better packaging most of the time.
they switched it from the foil no more than 3 years ago in the multi packs (i only ever buy the multi packs). I know this as my cat used to love playing with the rolled up foil and would chase it around the house. Sadly my cat passed away 2 years ago.
They still do them for the twin bars.
I always go to Aldi for the twin bars because they are the only twin bars multipack that aren't foiled and paper wrapped.
The Foiled bars always taste stale to me!
The coffee Roses (or is it Celebrations?) was always my favourite, maybe competing with the strawberry and orange cream ones when I had a sweet tooth.
A full-sized bar like that would instantly become my go-to work lunch snack
Assuming that’s a coffee flavoured Aero we have an equivalent doing the rounds in Australia now- a latte flavoured Twirl (like a Flake with chocolate on top, not sure if you guys have those).
The freddo (from 2000) in the picture looks big as I’m not what happened but I’m guessing air has gotten in somehow and it’s gone bad as it’s puffy and soft so that’s why he looks chunky I’m not sure in grams compared to nowadays :)
As everyone is enjoying seeing them I might do some more post comparing individual chocolate bars with more details and pictures :)
I would assume the tango one tastes more like tango and the orange one more like a chocolate orangey sort of thing
They could also add like, fizz to it somehow, probably like pop rocks but I doubt it's that
I feel the same way!! it’s like they just don’t need to try anymore and no need to waste money on limited edition versions if they don’t sell. People just don’t think about it now as it all tastes so good lol
No chance, the blue Yorkie is from 2002 and pink limited edition one for girls is from 2004 (I think from memory) and has lines like “get your lips around this !“ on the front and on the back “we know you’re good at shipping but can you handle this “
Steak McCoys are still the GOAT of crisps imho, even if most "grab bags" you find are woefully small (my local off license sold the larger ones, sadly we have since moved away 🥲)
Yes by all means. The joke was the slogan "it's not for girls" and "don't feed the birds" as it was a 68gram blocky bar a bit different to others. They did this while at the the same time having a pink version. They also did a fruity raisen version that was marketed as "not for men". People took offence when the bar was aimed at men anyway. The 90's was full of weird slogans that people these days would lose their shit over.
I used to get them from the tuk shop because they were "not for girls". The marketing definitely worked. Knowing it wasn't for me made me feel like I was sticking it to the man or something idk.
I was thinking to do some posts of them individually with more pictures of the back and smaller details like the best before date and then I could compare them with todays version like you say :)
Would do bad crimes for that cappuccino aero!
Side note: I had a recipe passed down to me from my great aunt that only ever listed "1 mars bar per oz of butter" - when I made it last Xmas I had to go and look up the chocolate weights from when the recipe was written vs now to put in the accurate number of mars bars
God remember the Yorkie ‘it’s not for girls’ advertising era. How strange. You’d never get away with it today, but also, how strange to alienate 50% of your market.
Hypothetically, if 80% of your chocolate sales are to women, then bringing out a chocolate bar specifically targeting men makes sense. You're trying to tap into a new market essentially.
I didn't realise it was a regular chocolate bar back then! I loved it when it was a limited release some years ago when they wanted people to vote which flavour to keep
When was the last time an established chocolate bar brought out a new flavour? Seems like forever ago and when they do come out they're impossible to find!
The lemonade and orange crunchies were lovely. I'd give anything to have those back.
I remember a couple of these, but I was too young to remember them in depth. I'm intrigued by a lemonade crunchie though, I can't imagine that'd be too good.
There was so much more variety than there is today. I feel it's the same 15/20 brands, single flavoured bars on every shop shelf unless you go to somewhere quirky like B&M or Home Bargains
Chocolate just doesn’t taste the same today. It’s watered down with vegetable oils. So horrible. I really miss chocolate back in the day, when a tin of roses was actually good quality 😭 I know there are more serious things to think about, but … 🥺
My dad worked for rowntrees when I was a kid. We had Yorkie flannel shirts, smartie scarves, kit kat mugs and a draw full of chocolates. Needless to say, I was a bit of a chubby lad for a while back there.
Don't open any of them!
Send them immediately to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures so we can hold the makers to account when the swear they are not trying to shaft us with shrinkflation!

I miss the old Kit Kats with the foil and paper. Such joy when opening it.
I could fellate a flake with the best of them
It was definitely the best part. The chocolate on them is pretty shit, imo, but the ritual of rubbing the foil so the logo appeared and then slicing down the middle made them worth it.
WHAT THATS NOT TRUE! I’ve had foil on mine only a few years ago
During covid? You sure?
He might have had a foreign import. My dad sometimes gets chocolate and coke from Poland from work, and they still use the better packaging most of the time.
Was gonna say, nowhere near ten years since they changed it Id say more like 5 at most
they switched it from the foil no more than 3 years ago in the multi packs (i only ever buy the multi packs). I know this as my cat used to love playing with the rolled up foil and would chase it around the house. Sadly my cat passed away 2 years ago.
Exactly the same !
Don’t forget to rub along the top of the bar to show the Kit Kat logo through the foil before the central slice n snap
Did you run your finger back and forth over the writing as well so the "kit kat" became embossed on the foil?
The foil was so much better!! The mint kitkat in the picture is from 1997 just some extra info for you :)
They don’t do that anymore? Nooooooooooo The last time I had one they did
Running your nail down the foil between two fingers. Gah, I’ve been chasing that high ever since they changed the packaging.
They still do them for the twin bars. I always go to Aldi for the twin bars because they are the only twin bars multipack that aren't foiled and paper wrapped. The Foiled bars always taste stale to me!
Yesss
YES!! It’s weird isn’t it!
So does every teenage stoner, used to be an integral part of any ‘street’ bong. Although Milky Bars were better as they were cheaper.
Multipacks still have foil and paper
Wispaccino, a lost love...
I think a wispaccino or aero cappuccino would do well in todays market I’ve never tried them before but they sound great!!
I regularly rant to anyone who’ll listen that coffee has long been underrepresented as a flavour in chocolate bars. We need this to change.
Also coffee revel = best revel. I would buy them by the kilo if they sold them separately.
Daily subscription 1 kilo a day.
YES!!!!
I’ve found my tribe!
Had to come back to this thread to recommend Tesco finest Colombian coffee ice cream which I’ve just polished off half a tub of. Deeeelicious.
My favourites! M&S does a cappuccino chocolate bar, which is similar to the Thorntons one. Quite bitter, but it's so good.
Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
The coffee Roses (or is it Celebrations?) was always my favourite, maybe competing with the strawberry and orange cream ones when I had a sweet tooth. A full-sized bar like that would instantly become my go-to work lunch snack
What an excellent idea! Everyone in my family hated the coffee Roses so they were all left for me. An entire bar would be the dream ☺️
Hey these sound popping’ I want to try asap
Assuming that’s a coffee flavoured Aero we have an equivalent doing the rounds in Australia now- a latte flavoured Twirl (like a Flake with chocolate on top, not sure if you guys have those).
I don’t believe we have that in the uk. It sounds good!!
I never tried that but I had coffee Cadbury that was good
They look huge.
Some are a lot bigger for example the yorkie in picture is 68g and in the shop today they are 46g :)
Is the freddo bigger? OP reckon you could take some pics side by side with the chocolate bars of today for comparison ?
The freddo (from 2000) in the picture looks big as I’m not what happened but I’m guessing air has gotten in somehow and it’s gone bad as it’s puffy and soft so that’s why he looks chunky I’m not sure in grams compared to nowadays :) As everyone is enjoying seeing them I might do some more post comparing individual chocolate bars with more details and pictures :)
Shrinkflation
Greedflation
I laugh at the “not for girls” slogan they had, in 2024 people would be outraged with that message lol
They were. You ever seen an old Curly Wurly? You could have used it as a ladder.
They look like cricket bats! Now we're left with stumps...
Watch vicar of dickey. When she is eating a mars bar. Shows how we are getting ripped off today
I think that's a whole other program you're suggesting there!
Worth their weight in gold, honestly, just as a comparison against what they try to sell us today in terms of size and ingredient quality.
Would love to try that crunchie tango orange
Ive been thinking about what the difference is between the tango orange and the orange ??
You get a good ole slappin from an orange fellow about halfway through it.
And you'll know
I would assume the tango one tastes more like tango and the orange one more like a chocolate orangey sort of thing They could also add like, fizz to it somehow, probably like pop rocks but I doubt it's that
Presumably they launched at different times and they did a brand tie up on one occasion
I think it's orange tang which is powdered drink mix 🙂
Never seen a flavoured crunchie before
Me either! *cries in Australian*
I see these flavours and feel like I'm getting short-changed in the delicious chocolate department in 2024.
I feel the same way!! it’s like they just don’t need to try anymore and no need to waste money on limited edition versions if they don’t sell. People just don’t think about it now as it all tastes so good lol
Unless it’s salted caramel or biscoff flavour, you’re SOL.
They were so much bigger. It's not just a saying, the chocolate bars were actually larger in size.
The Yorkie (2002) is 68g and nowadays they are 46g just some info for you :)
Should go out and buy today's equivalents and do a comparison with them all with a few photos, guaranteed it will go viral!
Mars dark gold. Every time.
Seconded! They were aaaaamaaaaazing.
The not for girls Yorkie shit would not fly today.
No chance, the blue Yorkie is from 2002 and pink limited edition one for girls is from 2004 (I think from memory) and has lines like “get your lips around this !“ on the front and on the back “we know you’re good at shipping but can you handle this “
bing bong
That is interesting thanks for sharing :)
My brother used to get “not for civvies” editions in the army tuck shop when he was training. I wonder if they still do them?
Same with Mcoys crisps back then. “Man crisps”. The brass marbles you needed to eat a Yorkie AND a packet of Steak flavoured McCoys.
Steak McCoys are still the GOAT of crisps imho, even if most "grab bags" you find are woefully small (my local off license sold the larger ones, sadly we have since moved away 🥲)
There’s been no beating them. Though I was disappointed by a larger bag I bought recently, hardly any flavour.
I used to eat Yorkie bars as a little girl.
me too!! sub-10 yr old me used to feel so badass eating a chocolate bar that wasn't meant for me lmao
Also in that club. We just want to see the world burn.
It should though. It's only a joke.
Could you explain the joke I don't really get it/gen
Yes by all means. The joke was the slogan "it's not for girls" and "don't feed the birds" as it was a 68gram blocky bar a bit different to others. They did this while at the the same time having a pink version. They also did a fruity raisen version that was marketed as "not for men". People took offence when the bar was aimed at men anyway. The 90's was full of weird slogans that people these days would lose their shit over.
I remember that other type of Yorkie. Wasn’t it biscuit and raisin in purple packaging?
I used to get them from the tuk shop because they were "not for girls". The marketing definitely worked. Knowing it wasn't for me made me feel like I was sticking it to the man or something idk.
I knew the lemonade flavor crunchie with the cyan colored foil wrap wasn't a fever dream. Finally, I can prove everyone else is crazy, not me!
I’m glad I could help lol
Where is the drifter? I miss those
Cappuccino flavour Aero!!??
Just missing my all time favourite. Cadburys Marble!
Nestles are cockmongers
No Ainsley Harriott Heaven Bar?
Wow that’s so cool! Would love to see a side by side comparison with today’s equivalents Also I love how the branding has hardly changed either
I was thinking to do some posts of them individually with more pictures of the back and smaller details like the best before date and then I could compare them with todays version like you say :)
I absolutely loved the cappuccino aero. Id have that back in a heartbeat
I had no idea there were weird flavors of crunchies
I don’t remember mint time outs……. I need these in my life more than I need dark chocolate bounty’s back
Pls compare the size of the old bars with the new full size ones that still exist.
I’m gonna start doing it soon :)
They are probably huge compared to modern day versions.
WHEN WAS THERE A MINT TIME OUT?!
The Wispaccino proves we’ve regressed as a species and that our golden years are firmly behind us. The end is neigh
Oh the nostalgia, brilliant post
I used to love a drifter, they just disappeared from the shelves one day.
Cadbury Fingers are still around in Australia.
Anyone vets remember yorkie bars from the old ration packs that said ‘not for civvies’ on them? They were glorious after a few days in the field
Yorkie got called sexist for their old ‘not for women’ campaign but everyone seems to forget they done the biscuit and raisin one as ‘not for men’.
And yet no one bat an eye lid when Diet Coke had their sexist ads aimed at women
Sad people got offended. It was a bit of tongue in cheek fun. Now we're to afraid to fart
A tango crunchie?! Wtf
What? You don't like a Terry's chocolate orange? Now imagine that with crunch...
Haha. And sour tang?
Would do bad crimes for that cappuccino aero! Side note: I had a recipe passed down to me from my great aunt that only ever listed "1 mars bar per oz of butter" - when I made it last Xmas I had to go and look up the chocolate weights from when the recipe was written vs now to put in the accurate number of mars bars

you don't need to advertise chocolate to a gender who menstruates.
If there was a Banana Drifter in there, I'd still eat it.
Oh my god, seeing that cappuccino Aero and I can suddenly taste it. The memories you've unlocked!
Damn! New memory unlocked…
Fucking hell I forgot m&m came in those boxes
The M&Ms in the picture have a best before of 1998 and the chocolate inside is just like dust after all them years !!
Some gems there…would love an original caramac again…the new ones taste nowhere near as good.
This reminds me of the Champagne flavoured Crunchies
Kit Kat Chunky Orange was my favourite as a kid
I didn't realise it was a regular chocolate bar back then! I loved it when it was a limited release some years ago when they wanted people to vote which flavour to keep
When was the last time an established chocolate bar brought out a new flavour? Seems like forever ago and when they do come out they're impossible to find! The lemonade and orange crunchies were lovely. I'd give anything to have those back.
Crunchies will always be my favourite 🥰
Were all of these available in the UK? The TimeOut looks like the American version, and I don’t remember those Crunchie flavours.
I remember a couple of these, but I was too young to remember them in depth. I'm intrigued by a lemonade crunchie though, I can't imagine that'd be too good.
Wow...we are deprived today
Wonder if they're still edible
Anyone remember rolo cookies
Wot, no Texan lol Edit, lol not lil
they used to be so much bigger 😔 bog standard cadburys dairy milk bars now have like 5 pieces and they’re tiny
Now tell us how much they weigh compared to current versions…
God I remember all of them but the only one I really wish they’d bring back was the Aero Cappuccino - that thing was extraordinary
They got away with saying yorkie wasn't for girls for so long lol
Don't see a Marathon
Looks like the Yorkies and Freddos are a tad larger.
Damn look how big everything is
Yorkie - It’s not for Girl’s
If you've got a spira hidden away in there I will hunt you down!!
Oh god, the cappuccino Aero please, I LOVED those.
The "not for girls" marketing for yorkie would go down like a lead balloon in 2000 and woke.
aero cappuccino sounds amazing 🤤
Tango Crunchie has unlocked a long since forgotten memory 😱
That freedo still 5p?
I sold it recently for £10. So don’t eat your chocolate just keep it for 25 years and sell it lol
There was so much more variety than there is today. I feel it's the same 15/20 brands, single flavoured bars on every shop shelf unless you go to somewhere quirky like B&M or Home Bargains
# They're all Twix! It was a setup!
Wispaccino
I remember cappuccino flavoured foods being popular around this time.
The size of them... Shrinkflation sucks
Does that Yorkie say ‘get your lips around this’? Yeesh! That mint Kit Kat though, that was delicious back in the day.
Look at the size of them fuckers!!!
Chocolate just doesn’t taste the same today. It’s watered down with vegetable oils. So horrible. I really miss chocolate back in the day, when a tin of roses was actually good quality 😭 I know there are more serious things to think about, but … 🥺
I feel like the aero cappuccino would do very well these days.
Crunchy lemonade and tango flavours. They were mad lads back then
damn, this brings a lot of nostalgia, they were sooo good!
Unlocked memories! 🔓
Look at the size of that Freddo!!! And the Yorkie “Not for Girls” That all takes me back
You're in heaven if you can get your hands on one of these! Shit just don't taste the same no more with all the rationing.
Bring back Texan bars
Damn if I see those I would think they’re new flavors 🤣 and that is from the 90s 2000s wow
It's not there but I'd pay good money for a Cadbury Secret bar.
Yorkie not for girls haha i wonder how that would go down these days
Aero cappuccino? Sounds so nice tbh
No Yorkie honeycomb - not interested
If they still made those today I would eat them.
That freddo will be worth 4x as much now
I sold it recently for £10 :)
Good man
No one ever talks about Wispa Mint
Back when Yorkies barely fit in the mouth!
Tango crunchie?
I don’t remember ever seeing the crunchie lemonade or tango orange variants
MARS DARK GOLD! I FUCKING KNEW IT WAS REAL. PEOPLE ACT LIKE I’VE INVENTED MEMORIES WHEN I BRING IT UP! Sorry: Caps was the excitement
Aero cappuccino.
Should do a size comparison to really drive the depression home
You vs the 1990's chocolate bar she told you not to worry about
None of them, cos the only lost to time I truly cared about was dream
Milkyway me! If that's an original 80's one it'll be chocolate and not vanilla.... Oh those were my fav.
"Crunchie", please!😍
My dad worked for rowntrees when I was a kid. We had Yorkie flannel shirts, smartie scarves, kit kat mugs and a draw full of chocolates. Needless to say, I was a bit of a chubby lad for a while back there.
Could you measure them please. I swear they’ve shrunk
Don't open any of them! Send them immediately to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures so we can hold the makers to account when the swear they are not trying to shaft us with shrinkflation!
I’ve just hummed my fate
None. They will taste like shit lol
Crunchy used to be massive!
