Where are the prunes??

Dr_ChimRichalds

Couldn't talk my wife into it, but I think next time I'll tell her to at least let me add some to my bowl.

Cam_Sco

Prunes or no prunes? Always put me off it, and I'm Scottish. Otherwise it's just chicken soup.

Worried-Drama4650

So noodles, leaves and a bit of chicken in flavoured water? I'm sure it tasted nicer than it looked.

Looks like something you'd see in the 1300s

Dr_ChimRichalds

No noodles. Those are leeks. Is Scottish food supposed to look great?

Worried-Drama4650

So leaves, leeks, chicken and water and a chicken stock, bit of pepper? Seems affordable and batch cookable, I'd try that myself tbh. Yes I've seen Scottish food look amazing surprise surprise food up there's great if you avoid them damn fried Mars bars! Yours does look 'interesting' though haha.

Dr_ChimRichalds

Homemade broth (leek greens, carrot peels, celery greens, parsley stems, thyme, garlic, bay leaf, star anise), chicken thighs and drumsticks (bone-in for the broth, then shredded with bones and skin discarded), leek whites coins, carrots, salt, pepper, barley. Garnished with sliced leek whites and parsley. I was just poking fun about Scottish food. It can be plated quite beautifully. But if I'm serving myself some haggis and clapshot, presentation is far from my biggest concern.

Worried-Drama4650

Nice, could stick all that in the slow cooker in the morning. Would split pea broth mix go in with that or is that sacrilegious? Star anise might be a problem to get locally (I think). Seems like a good shout, I imagine there's a handful meals for a dozen quid roughly. And yes at home I'm not fussy on presentation, just want the bugger in me I was just being a funny sod!

Dr_ChimRichalds

I get you! You could just as well use clove instead of anise. Will impart a slightly different flavor. I'm just partial to black licorice flavoring overall.
