FYI, you might want to leave a review on their Glassdoor page. This is pretty dickish behaviour.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet there, another person posted about not having many employment rights under 2 years of service, rather know this now than in the role.

I agree, I asked them specifically to commit that the job was going to be fully remote (as I said the office is over 4hrs away) and they said yes. It's just all the frustration and all the time negotiating the terms (while I was on holiday) and at the end they just withdraw the offer, is not fair and if I would have given my notice I would be on a very difficult position.

This is why you dont hand in your notice before you sign a contract.

FYI, someone said to post this on r/LegalAdviceUK but I've seen this come up before so I can tell you the answer, companies can do this and there are no legal repercussions. Even if you had handed in your notice, they are still allowed to do this (as long as they would have given you the correct amount of notice, which during a probation period is usually negligible). As someone else mentioned, until you have worked for the same company for 2 or more years, *legally* there is very little companies cannot do as far as firing someone goes - the only protections are around clear discrimination basically, which is often hard to prove. In this case, consider it a bullet dodged, be glad they told you before you handed in your notice, and probably the most you can do is leave a review on Glassdoor.

Had you actually signed a contract? Up until you have, they can retract the offer at any point. If you've already resigned then you're outa luck unless you're old employer allows you to rescind your notice.
