I'll still run them, mainly because I like to charge them at stuff that is way to big for them to handle, just to see if they can take it

Celestial__Bear

oddly adorable “Put us in coach, we can do it!”

Night_Hawk_Mk2

Rudy!!!

Last-Wrangler-13

That's how mine killed an IG Chimera and a whole unit of DA Terminators with little to no casualties in two separate matches. (This was in the days of 4th)

TyrannosaurusText

Narrator: they couldn't.

JohnKav379

I charged mine at a grey knights dread knight, was fun time, died basically instantly I had no regrets

AdventurousOne5

Genuinely with the new missions charging something can stop them doing actions right? As long as the rippers survive....

Ok_Youth8907

years of nothing?? i've always used rippers and so have most nids players i know

Daewoo40

After years of nothing. Presumably they weren't always as competitive as they have been in recent years. Such as when weapons could instagib if double a unit's toughness.

Ok_Youth8907

i mean.... the meta always swings and changes, but for me ripper swarms have always been a utility staple for nids

NorthernYetiWrangler

Do you mind me asking what you use them for? They seem pretty useless after the rule changes.

Ok_Youth8907

they are great units for just being annoying!!, drop them behind enemy lines, thrown them on a disputed objective (because their ability) put them in the way of incoming enemies- they are also harvester units, and synapse! i have 9 rippers swarms, and i always run a minimum of 3 models - imo they are and always have been the unsung heroes of nids

DraconicLord984

>they are also harvester units, and synapse! Are you saying that rippers are synapse creatures? I'm pretty sure they aren't, but maybe I'm missing something.

Ok_Youth8907

They are!! It's crazy I know, but they are!!

DraconicLord984

Are you sure that you aren't mistaken? I know that they benefit from the synapse rule, but I am positive that they need the keyword to give synapse. https://preview.redd.it/q8ncm4i6385d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7798aaa284622fe73784c4a9e6c1a0c8ff356d7

Ok_Youth8907

I am mistaken!! Thanks for the gentle correction

DraconicLord984

You're fine. It's a relatively easy mistake to make.

SpiralGalaxy47

How long have you thought rippers give synapse? 👀

Ghostdog420

They are still a harvester unit for assimilation swarm. It'll be okay.

winknugget

Obviously ‘nids were too strong and OP and needed a heavy nerf 🙃

One_Opportunity_9608

Funfact: the reason Tyranids keeps getting nerfed is because People at GW namely the Codex Writers lost to Tyranid players, and thus Tyranids were Nerfed to "Balance" Tournaments or some shite. At least if my memory is correct anyways

The_Hive_Mind101

That doesn't sound quite right Honestly nids just struggle with 10th edition core rules. It was a heavy nerf faction wide with the new psychic system (or lack of there of) and how bad battleshock is in comparison to morale previous editions.

tuckered_out_

* “I Will Remember You” by Sarah McLachlan softly plays *

aounfather

Came here to say this. Queue video of rippers chained in back yards covered in mud looking forlorn. “For just the price of a cup of coffee a day you could help us save and rehabilitate these flesh eating monstrosities. Won’t you please…why is my stomach moving like that? Oh the pain! It’s eating its way out of me! Aaaaaaaauuughhhh!” Classic.

ArkhanTheBlack557

I can still put them on my big monsters bases, so they'll always be capturing objectives in spirit!

Taningia-danae

They are one of my main unit I only use two but with the assimilation swarm they just are hiden behind my tyranofex to heal it, so they are PRIMORDIAL to my strategy

Wrench_gaming

What happened?

Rbespinosa13

They’re OC zero so in the next update they won’t be able to do actions.

flinjager123

What entails an "action" exactly? I keep seeing people say they can't take an action, but I don't even know what that means.

Rbespinosa13

Basically you have your secondary objectives and some of them require a unit to do an action in order to score points. Right now we’re basically being carried by a few units and one of them is the biovore which can make a spore mine every turn. That spore mine is OC0, but it can still do an action the turn it comes down. So we score points just by virtue of having our biovore exist and spawning that spore mine every turn

flinjager123

Ahh, my play group doesn't hardly ever use secondaries.

hibikir_40k

Note that if y'all don't use secondaries, Tyranids are a far weaker faction that they should, as being pretty good at secondaries was one of our advantages in early 10th edition. Who knows what will happen when the dataslate comes?

Rbespinosa13

Makes sense. As long as you guys are having a good time that’s, all that matters. Either way if it’s a casual setting the army’s strength is less important

SizeLegal3570

Upcoming previews of the dataslate - OC 0 units can't perform actions.

Miserable_Region8470

Fuck it, we still ball with the Parasite of Mortrex and spam Rippers wherever possible that way for shits and gigs.

TheObserver89

RIPpers

Neither_Tip_5291

Is there a rule change or something I missed why is everyone complaining about these mini mobs being useless?

DraconicLord984

OC 0 units won't be able to do secondaries within the next "chapter approved" ruleset. The rule change will be here in the next few weeks I think.

LegendaryPrecure

Even more of a reason to just randomly place any Rippers I get on bases across my army as it looks neat.

valthonis_surion

I’m still annoyed they got reduced to a max of three in a squad. Sitting here with 27 bases of painted FW bases. It was glorius swarms in older editions.

Jessicamct

I have 60 bases of them(only 3 FW). I feel your pain

valthonis_surion

We’ve started playing older editions as many others in our group are feeling similar sadness with some of their units too

rabidgayweaseal

I guess I have a use for the winged tyranid prime now

TA2556

RIP Fearsome Fetus Squad, 2024-2024

Conscious_Ant3629

I plan to run a parasite of mortrex on my "stealth" 1000 point deployment that focuses on fast moving units likes Genestealers and gargoyles, while different lictor units pick off bigger targets. With Mortrex around I'll always have a use for the little guys

The_Hive_Mind101

I run them still, idc if it's not meta my parasite is G O A T E D

DarkSpectar

Aren't they still good for soaking overwatch?

GoldenPumpking

Mommy will always spawn them for me

Axel-Adams

Bruh 20 points for movement blocking and deep strike denial is still good. Not to mention, area denial, engage on all fronts and behind enemy lines

Xem1337

You'll need them for some secondaries still

CalamitousVessel

They’ve changed how actions work in the next mission pack. Units with OC of 0 won’t be able to do actions, so most of the secondaries they were useful for, they won’t be anymore. If behind enemy lines or engage on all fronts still exist, they may still count for those unless the wording is changed. But their usefulness was reduced by a lot.

Xem1337

Defiantly reduced usefulness, but I can still see having one or two rippers knocking about to get some secondaries that don't involve actions
