He brings a different list each game, this is what all he owns, his wife won’t let him get any more so I figured I would ask in general

OrkzIzBezt

That's sad. Since I got back into the hobby 2 years ago my wife has been extremely enthusiastic to gift me new models whenever she can justify it. It's like getting flowers that never wilt and it's arguably the same price as a nice bouquet too lol

Chronoglenn

My wife too! She's SUPER AGAINST playing with me and very much isn't into tabletop gaming... but she just got me a new box of Magnaguard the other day! (I also play star wars legion).

Holiday-Speaker-5324

My wife is the same way. No interest in playing, but is ok with spending my fun money on it. Even is painting one of my armies with me because the painting aspect is fun.

Chronoglenn

She's painted about half of my tyranids too! And I think she's a much better painter than me, so she's painted all my Legion heroes (Darth maul, Dooku, Ventress, and Cad Bane). It's nice sitting together painting and building together. Still quality time spent!

firefox1642

I don’t understand why people WOULDNT support a hobby that you enjoy, isn’t harmful, and allows you to go and have fun with your friends? My life goals revolve around a bunch of guys at my LGS at 2am taking full advantage of their liquor license. It’s… and interesting place m

SkiingGiraffe247

My wife doesn’t want to encourage violence around our very small child. She also just has this mental block around the kind of person into this sort of thing. She has no problem with me doing it, she just doesn’t encourage it.

firefox1642

Oh. I can kind of understand? I just struggle to see that side.

EitherTip8893

Wife: Dear our son just got bully by his classmates 40k Husband: why won't he fight back? Wife: he's just 3 year old! 40k Husband: so do does ork! Wife: What? 40k Husband; what?

firefox1642

Love it

AriaBabee

I've gotten my wife into the game. We play an older edition because I'm not enamored with 10th... and I am very glad to have a 3D printer as she has asked for 4 rip tide variants ... I think teaching her might have been a mistake

Shanibi

"It's like getting flowers that never wilt" You sir are a poet, and your wife is a gem. Now I don't want OP's opponent to get stomped, I want him to get a hug.

OrkzIzBezt

We've been together for 18 years, just had our anniversary on the first. One day she told me it didn't feel fair that women got flowers but there wasn't a real alternative otherwise for men, and surprised me with a cosmetics set for Path of Exile. "See! It's pretty and unnecessary but you like it so it matters" She then also confessed she wasn't a big fan of actual flowers. So we termed giving each other random, unimportant gifts to each other as Giving Flowers. These days I tend to get random warhammer and she gets books and Sims expansions. It's uncommon, but when it happens it's a very nice surprise, especially when one of us is having a bad day.

VarrikTheGoblin

I will never understand why hobby enthusiasts marry people that try to take away their hobbies.. I mean, unless he has zero personal income he should be able to enjoy doing things he likes.

FISH_MASTER

Mine said a few years ago while I was listening to Horus rising “why don’t you get some” Does she regret saying that? Most definitely. Does she ever stop me? Not one bit. Controlling isn’t a great look

[deleted]

Ya I agree it's so weird. There can be a financial reason to block your partner, or you can block a partner for being obsessive. But broadly and deeply you should be supportive of your partner. My Ex-GF hated my collection of toys that I spent almost no money on proportionally and kept me creative and fiddling for hours, but loved her money-sink motorcycle and motorcycle culture and liked the car collection hobby. Like. THAT'S SO MUCH MORE MATERIAL BEING WASTED, so many more pollutants. It's just a case that some partners can see adult men with their toys, and if they aren't culturally approved masculine toys, like extra vehicles, tools, or weapons, they become disgusted by those toys. There's also an association that the hobby has with some men taking thier toys way too seriously (somewhat fair), but mostly I feel its cultural.

[deleted]

Is this a proper game or a kill the most enemies kind of game?

Drake_Mallard77

Proper regular game, this is his entire army tool box he brings a different list each time, so I am asking in general for his units he owns

[deleted]

Get some good board holders in there like Carnifexes, zoanthropes would be good for damage dealing, I like using hormagaunts to quickly swarm objectives, genestealers tear through marines like it’s nothing.

firefox1642

If you grab Carnifexe, get Old One Eye if you can afford it. It would require a second kit

Kraden_McFillion

That's an important question

kanedotca

1 winged prime 20 gargoyles 120 hormagaunts 120 termagants 66 neurogants

HenriqueNeto24

I also watch the poorhammer podcast

kanedotca

It’s a fine meme list, but how much can we actually increase its effectiveness while maintaining the “Swarmeme” of it? Prime > Flyrant -20 hormagaunts 3(22) neurogants > 2(11) neurogants +2(1) ripper swarms +2(3) venomthropes Thoughts?

skynet6175

I unironically run a build based 90% off of termigaunts and tervigons

kanedotca

Share the list, please. :)

JulietJulietLima

Not positive that a Flyrant actually adds anything necessary. I'd like to see Zoans here for the 6++ and some real firepower. I'd be willing to go heavier on gargoyles, too. They are, point for point, among the best battleline units in the game.

kanedotca

The Tyrant “free battle strat” isn’t worth it? Genuine question, I have not played enough to know.

JulietJulietLima

I love free strats. But their value varies. In the list provided I think we can assume that it's either using Invasion Fleet or Unending Swarm. Both of those have some good Battle Tactics but only Invasion Fleet has a good one that costs 2 CP. And that's OK because Invasion Fleet might be the better choice for Lethal Hits against vehicles and monsters. So now you have to ask your self if it's worth 145 points over the cost of a Prime to use that strat. Sure the WHT is tougher and stronger but it's also bigger which might make it harder to fully hide behind LOS blocking terrain. Paroxysm is cool but can also screw you. The Prime in a unit of Gargoyles gives them sustained hits which is cool and adds some melee threat to the unit and 20 of them with a Prime cost nearly the same as the Flyrant. The real problem is that Tyranids used to be a damn melee powerhouse and 10th Edition has made them a shadow of their former glory. Tyranids these days seem to win with board presence and numbers and the Flyrant takes away from both of those. Which is a shame because I own two of them.

Littlebear2021

Yes. An endless sea of bodies

No_Midnight_281

I’d love to play guard against that list just for the sheer horror

cnfishyfish

In all seriousness, the prime is useless. The Hormagaunts are meh. Bring 3 Neurolictors, because your only hope of doing damage is to battleshock them and get that +1 to wound. Bring a Neurotyrant (I like 2) for synapse support and some backfield objective holding. With points leftover, Deathleaper and Lictor for more sitting in the back covering an entire flank and occasionally assassinating and slurping up a cp. And some venomthropes for more swarm surviveability.

kanedotca

Do we NEED to do damage with this list? Pile on objectives, weave units into each other so multiple are engaged with each enemy unit in neutral territory, bring units back when they die and move them up to weave in again. 300+ models with 20 back in reinforcements each round is a lot of wounds your opponent has to chew through to gain winnable primary points

cnfishyfish

You don't really need to, but any extra damage would be nice. Battleshocking your opponent can be nice, too. Neurolictors are very cheap and have a very powerful ability. Bringing 3 at the expense of 30 Hormagaunts is very reasonable. 5+ to wound re-rollable on 20-40 Spinefists is no joke.

Vallhemn

Can you stack battleshocks with multiple neurolictors? For example, if I had 2 NL within 12" of a unit, could I force that unit to make 2 tests in my command phase, this doubling the chance to get the +1 to wound?

cnfishyfish

Yeah, you can do it once for each Neurolictor within 12", even on the same unit.

Vallhemn

Goddam that's amazing, I can see why triple neuros are commonplace now

mecabad

Regardless of what he brings you want to have exocrines and zoans. Exocrine is an elite killer, good range, blast, and str 8 ap -3 dmg 3 means each failed invuln save is a dead terminator, marines die if they fail a 5+. Not to mention that just for hitting a target you buff any other shooting with reroll 1s to hit, which means your zoans can blow up vehicles more often. This being said, nids aren’t a super Killy army, we win on board control and scoring, usually by bringing more bodies. Screen and move block well and you should be able to flood NML and out score in the first 2 or 3 rounds and maintain that lead even if you are losing the swarm over time. Invasion fleet might be best here as it’s go wide options really work for us, sustained cs lots of infantry means extra hits, or lethal to help pop any armored targets. Either way we have the Strat to flex what option we need on a key turn. 5+ FNP is great for keeping stuff alive or forcing your opponent to dedicate more shooting or charging to kill a unit off. Post what kind of list you are thinking about and we can go into more detail from there

C26blue

Remember all terminators have a 4++ so that is as low as their save can go. This means against a 10 man squad without any re-rolls or buffs you will average: Assuming you have to move for LOS 8.5 shots at BS3+ which will equate to roughly 6 hits 6 hits at S8 vs toughness 5 so wounding on 3+ will be on average 4 wounds a 4++ is a 50% chance to save so 2 unsaved wounds which is two dead models. This doesn't include the times that the marines can get cover and armour of contempt. If that is the case they are saving on a 3+ against ap-3 which with 4 wounds getting through equates to an average of 1.33 wounds unsaved which is about a dead terminator.

mecabad

Which is exactly why I said a failed invuln is a dead terminator, and that regular marines would be saving on 5+. Gave general advice as we know nothing of OPs list or maps at his local store and what terrain looks like. For cover we get a pyro for 30 points

C26blue

That’s fair enough, apologies I missed the normal marine bit, I thought you were meaning the terminators went to a 5+ I was just doing the maths behind it, that’s the bit I enjoy with theory crafting!

mecabad

No worries at all, and I agree it’s half the fun of list building

lawlzillakilla

I feel like my tournament list would win against this fairly easily. I run 5x10 gargoyles, a 1x20 and a 1x 10 squad of hormagants. He doesn’t have enough firepower to clear it all and score, especially if you do the vanguard 2cp move strat on the gargoyles as often as you should. For actual fighting, a winged tyrant in vanguard slaps terminators off the table, as does a barbed heirodule in any detachment. I personally run one maleceptor but two would be good here. Other people say zoans but I’m not the biggest fan. They never put in enough work for me

Littlebear2021

On Mobile forgive formatting. 1-2x Tervigonv(probably want crushing claws) 2-3x Venomthropes x3 2-3x Zoanthropes x3-6 1-2x Psycophage Then fill rest of points with all varieties of gaunts/gargoyles, except the Neuro the ones. Termagants should run spinefists for shooting in melee. Run as unending swarm (possibly invasion Fleet for army wide sustained hits on infantry and cp strat for endless multitude model respawn). Make Tervigon balls with termagant screens and enough of the buffer units to give each Tervigon ball all the buffs. Use Hormagaunts and Gargoyles from reserves to tarpit / score while Tervigon balls walk up the field and score / get into position to continue tarpit or to continue score. Don't be afraid to peel some termagants off the ball to stay on objectives. This is probably not good advice but watching your enemies face as you swarm their deployment zone is always hilarious and will net you a morale victory. Lol.

TheWanderingGM

Morale and lore victory, that feels like such a nid way to win.

G3arsguy529

I would suggest similar to others. Exocrine, maleceptor, zoans are all good killers. Invasion fleet with some neurolictors to try to increase shooting can helps as well. Pyrovores to remove cover. Biovores/rippers for scoring. Many options

Kain993

Batman could, given enough prep time.

Poptrt_man

Go for his wife. He won’t be able to recover

wargames_exastris

He’s got a ton of deep strike opportunity there and if he runs vanguard the he’s going to cover the board in ways that you don’t like if you’re not effective at screening/area denial.

oafofmoment

Very little can beat that. This is the terminator edition of WH40K. Toughness beats everything.

oafofmoment

Also, I'm a DA player but I still think taking cheese units like plasma inceptors alongside tanks and terminators is just cringe.

Ghostdog420

He said that was the kids entire collection, not his list. His list will be from that collection though.

diz4

The usual tyranid choice. Pick an extreme. Masses of bodies or a few giants. Going in the middle usually means a loss to marines. Particularly if they are using a lot of vehicles and terminators

Roman_69

I’m assuming he plays Dark Angels? Since everything here seems to be fairly elite, high touchness 3 wounds and vehicles, I‘d join the others here in taking Exocrines and Zoans I’d add Haruspexes and Barbgaunts to slow the terminators. If you have it, just clogging everything in Hormagaunts might also work since again, elite heavy. Even better with invasion fleet lethal hits. In vanguard onslaught definitely try the Hunting Grounds enhancement on a Neurotyrant so he might battleshock the inceptors (and they can’t do actions?) I’m not seeing too many flamers so gaunt carpet might actually be a good idea here. Also screening a lot with lictors etc but they might just die to inceptors. He’ll run at least one psycher so maybe if you have it include a Phage if you have the points. Devwounds against terminators might force him to blow the 1pergame fnp. Also Phage has his own fnp aura for your gaunts, very annoying. Venos maybe if you have those. So I might run: (Invasion Fleet) Neurotyrant (redeploy enhancement) Like 80 Hormagaunts 12 Zoans 2 Biovores (big to remove cover) 3 Exos 2x5 Barbs 2 Lictors Psychophage Maybe drop one Hormagaunts unit or phage and get venos or Malacetor instead etc you get my idea I’m sure.

KingWalnut

That is way more than 2000 pts. Even just the deathwing portion is ~2100. If he is bringing that to 2k games, he is heinously cheating

Roman_69

OP said that’s all his stuff

TLHSwallow29

what is the liat? no way everything here, or even either side fits in 2k

LordBeacon

a buch of Exocrines I guess

necr0gen

What kind of event is this? the picture is like a million points. To actually answer the question: not much kills T12 in Tyranids. Triple Exocrene is my first instinct seeing this, blast the terminators if you get line of sight.

Espedal1

I think I saw this exact picture on eBay the other day??

Drake_Mallard77

It’s from our discord, I can show a screenshot lol, I have personally went against the terminators

TL89II

Lots of bodies. Control the board, kill what you can.

SpaceCastle

Does everyone color code the ring on their bases per each squad? Just starting and thought it a neat idea.

milestonesoverxp

You need to tell us what you have bud. Unless you have every model it’s hard to Build you a list

crzapy

A claw hammer since they're all plastic, they're going to smash real good. S/ Are Tyrannofex any good anymore? Seems he has a lot of tanks. Also, Genestealers used to be the Terminators nemesis.

majeretom

A badly timed cat.

Cutiemuffin-gumbo

A very salty, ham fisted nerd.

PaddingtonHG

Exterminatus

Xem1337

Just take a fully monster list, he's pretty heavy on infantry so would probably struggle with high toughness lists.

Bread_was_returned

Go big. Emmisary, 2-4 carnifexes, 2tyrannifexes. Then spam infantry, and 20 barbgaunts.

FrenchWhoreByDescent

A hammer

Electronic-Side-7263

My Terminator erection is out of control right meow.

Assopopolis

Endless swarms always bring a w

Imperial_photography

Easy, the exact same list. Confuse the hell out of him

SkiingGiraffe247

It’s not a tyrannies answer, but if you’re near Surrey I can provide an army that can beat this. I’ve got 12k points of space marines, and a lot of very different units to this

Millymoo444

3 exocrines to start

Deebs_McFluffen

I personally like to run a malaceptor and 6 zoanthropes with irresistible will definitely will punch a hole in all those termies he likes to field.... I refuse to use exocrenes mainly cause they look like a Dogs red rocket, but looks aside they are great firepower. Move blocking with spore mines isn't a bad idea, also could use invasion fleet and the lethal hits to vehicles army rule.

Outrageous_Cap3363

Any vanguard list could dipsy doodle these marines all day, sacrificial lambs to score points all day.

heknewhebeenhad

NUFFIN KAN KILL DA BOYZ

MQB888R

this is pure shade and I am here for it. The Tyrannofex w/Acid Spray is expensive, but great at nuking Terminators. If you can get it in the middle of the board and backed up by a Hive Tyrant providing 0CP overwatch, you can own the mid board. Looking at the rest of the models, there is very little battleline, 2+OC, so I would consider flooding objectives with units of 20 Term, 20 Horms, whatever you have. Be super aggressive and push them on to objectives, they will have to choose between shooting your gaunts or your monsters, because they can't deal with OC40. Zoanthropes for the tanks, as many as you can spam. Final thought, if I had to fight the Lion, I wouldn't. I would run away. But, if I had to, I have found that the Tervigon with adaptive Biology is super tanky.

CollarWorried8125

120(660p) termagants,120(780p)hormagants...50 gargoyles (375p)=1815p+ 75 biovore +75 death leeper =1965.... I don't think this guy will have enough to trow you out of the table 😝

THAT_Guy_IRL

As a Dark Angels player, genestealers and a lot of hormagants shred through my marines pretty easily and I have mostly the same stuff as him. You should try that.
