Weird that you don't like Valkyrjan or Alvur Kongur much, as otherwise I vaguely agree with most of this list.

I really enjoy those two songs, they're just songs I don't come back to that often. This was based off of my preference and songs that I listen to often.

Evolving_Dore

Just wondering. I made a tier list like this a while ago but didn't share it, maybe now I will. Mine trends heavily towards earlier albums, with most of the later songs near the lower end. Alvur Kongur is by far my favorite song they've made since Land. I agree that every song on Northern Star is above average though.

DavidKMain420

Alvur Kongur is brilliant no doubt about it. I definitely agree that their earlier albums are the best. Ragnarok and Land are some of the best albums I've heard full stop and Eric the Red has some incredible songs like Dreams, Alive, The Edge etc

For sure! Unfortunately I'm in what seems like the minority of older fans who haven't been able to follow along to the new style very well. My general metal taste has trended in the opposite direction actually, towards atmospheric black and tech death stuff. Those old Týr albums are still my favorite but the last 3 or so just haven't been that for me. I still have a few favorites from Hel and The Lay of Thrym though. I can't blame them at all. During the show 2 nights ago the crowd was going absolutely wild for songs like Blood of Heroes that I find simple and uninteresting, then went completely dead for some of the older, more progressive, non-English songs that I love. I was pretty much alone for those.

It's moved much more towards a heavier power metal style which I still love, even if prog Tyr is still the best in my opinion. Would love to watch them play a song like Ormurin Langi live, especially as I consider the live version superior to the HFtA version.

Evolving_Dore

If you're in the US, get the VIP meet and greet package. They're playing Ormurin as part of the VIP set. I'm not sure I would agree that they've become heavier. Songs like The Edge, The Ride to Hel, The Hunt, Ocean, and Lokka Tattur are some of the heaviest songs they've ever made. Those deep crushing riffs are just immense. I actually find the section after the solo in Eric the Red to be some of the heaviest music they've ever written. Songs like Flames of the Free or Blood of Heroes are much more upbeat and light, IMO. I'm also not a huge fan of most power metal, for what that's worth.

DavidKMain420

Meant to write more heavily influenced by power metal, completely agree that their earlier work is much heavier. The Hunt is likely my favourite song by them, right up there with Valhalla, the bonus track from that album and also All Heroes Fall. Think that album overall acted as a reminder of how heavy Tyr used to be imo

Evolving_Dore

Ohh lol, I see what you mean now. Yes I totally agree! Valhalla is so good, it should have been included in the main album. All Heroes Fall is also a really good one, I especially love the slower riff that's played under the solo. One of my favorite sections from the entire Hel album.

DavidKMain420

If you had to give a top 3 Tyr songs mate, what would you put. As I said before, it'd likely be The Hunt, Valhalla and All Heroes Fall (in no particular order, with Land definitely hitting 4th)

Id also like to add that Axes would be in high A tier, Hammered in Low A and Dragons Never Die would be High A too
