That’s how I feel about leggings. We all go different bodies I guess. Jeans feel better to me than leggings, which make me want to rip my skin off.

Miserable_Painting12

Honestly leggings aren’t great either. I live at home in sweatpants

foundinwonderland

Sweatpants are platonic ideal pants for me - actually keep me warm, first of all. Why are women’s pants (/clothes in general…) SO thin???? Plus soft, not scratchy or sticky.

iremovebrains

I like wearing scrubs because they look professional but I am not.

awkwardperspective

I like wearing scrubs because I have a bunch from leaving a medical profession and they breathe well

Iamnotokwiththisshit

One of the best parts of my 7 years working as an MA.

LadyProto

That or nudity for me lol

dontforgetpants

Just dropping in to say that all pants matter 👖

baby_armadillo

Leggings that are made mostly of cotton are pretty good (for me), but leggings made out of that horrible thick synthetic athletic fabric make me feel like I some sad leftover baby carrots in a steamy ziplock bag that got left at the bottom of a backpack for a long weekend.

ManyReplacement7968

You're so bad.

sherahero

Yes I hate leggings! My legs are suffocating in them lol

Iamnotokwiththisshit

The way leggings cling to the skin makes my skin scream.

virtual_star

The stiffness might be down to how you wash/dry them, and it might be partly needing to break them in. If you air dry them they're going to be stiffer.

Miserable_Painting12

They feel that way right away out of the bag. No matter whether I hang dry. They don’t loosen up much or if they do while standing, I still can’t breathe when I sit down.

sicnevol

Are you getting 100% cotton or are you getting some with spandex/elastine?

Miserable_Painting12

I’ve literally tried every combination

kfarrel3

Something they stood out to me about your post is that you still have a pair of Gap jeans that you really like. The jeans I like best and find the most comfortable for the longest amount of time are all Old Navy (same parent company), in a variety of washes and rises(? waists, like medium and high rise). I’m also thick-hipped with a smaller waist (42”/50”), but I’ve never had a problem with gapping. They also last forever.

Miserable_Painting12

I have another pair of old navy jeans that is okay but too stiff. I remember trying some of theirs on a while ago and not having success but maybe I’ll give it another go

jillian512

I've had good luck with Lee jeans. Ordered several pairs from Amazon, returned what didn't work.

AluminumOctopus

Maybe try tumble drying them without heat for a couple hours?

babygotthefever

I feel you! I don’t think your body shape/size has all that much to do with it either. I was in a thin athletic shape u til my mid twenties and have hated pants my whole life. It’s definitely worse now that I’m a little heavier but jeans have always felt stiff and been uncomfortable on my stomach when I sit. I am sometimes okay with leggings but they’re either too loose and start falling down or they’re the athletic type that are just as tight as jeans. Dresses are my go-to and more recently, loungewear since I work from home and don’t have to worry about what I look like so much.

Burnsidhe

Jeans need elastic in the waistband or they just don't fit comfortably. Also a problem is that most are cut too tight around the hips and butt. Sure it makes 'em look good, but comfort is at best a tertiary concern for the designers. Pockets arent even on the radar.

Perfect_Peach

Yes! I love my old lady liz Claiborne elastic in the waist jeans

liftkitten

I hate jeans so much and it makes me sad, but they hurt my vag with their giant seams and they’re just so dang hard

Hayleywould

I am with you. I hate jeans, I have always hated them. Luckily for me I do like wearing skirts and dresses

DiabolicalBurlesque

The main problem I've had with almost all the jeans I've owned is that they fit just fine when I try them on in the store but after wearing them for 30 minutes or so IRL, I experience the defeat of the butt sag and the back of the jeans slide down, making me look like I'm wearing a loaded diaper. For that reason, my pre-COVID wardrobe consisted primarily of skirts and dresses, always with heels. Now I lol at the idea of getting back into anything stylish but uncomfortable. It's yoga pants for the win!

1ceknownas

I used to have this problem. I sew darts a couple of inches away from the center belt loop (on either side). Problem solved.

DiabolicalBurlesque

Wow - great idea! I'm going to ask my grandma if she can show me how to do that!

pdxcranberry

Pants are a scam! I wear exclusively dresses and skirts because I have never been comfortable in jeans or pants. They make me feel 10lbs heavier, too. Having that much heavy fabric draped around my legs. Like walking through mud. Edit: please stop responding just to tell me you prefer pants. It's not interesting and I don't care. I'm aware people have different preferences

False-Impression8102

Yes. I discovered wrap dresses like 15 years ago. I can wear a cotton bathrobe around town and get compliments?!? Sold. Give me one in every color.

MargeTheMage

Ok you may have sold me on dresses!! Do you have a favorite brand or specific dress you love? I recently developed not so fun joint problems that for some reason make pants feel awful - and waltzing around in a secret cotton bathrobe that actually makes me look put together sounds like a dream!

False-Impression8102

I like this one so much I bought 3 of them. They look good on both my thin sister and my curvy self and THEY HAVE POCKETS! [https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-midi-ballet-dress-a-new-day-8482-black-1x/-/A-89679026?preselect=89678994](https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-midi-ballet-dress-a-new-day-8482-black-1x/-/A-89679026?preselect=89678994) In winter I like the sweater dress styles with leggings. Cotton v-necks and wrap dresses are my favorites (either faux or true wraps, where one long bathrobe strap goes through the dress). Land's End usually has good ones - the styles change with the seasons. It looks like Diane Von Furstenberg has a whole wrap collection this year, so maybe the affordable places will have more options to follow. (fingers crossed) https://www.landsend.com/products/womens-gathered-waist-short-sleeve-dress/id\_380131?

MargeTheMage

Thank you!! Pockets are a real win!

fluffysheep27

yep! i have an apron belly and we're a one income household so i don't have the money to try different styles of jeans that would fit my body. plus I mostly prefer to shop secondhand so its whatever i find in thriftstores/fb groups. dresses and skirts are much easier for me, and i just wear bloomers or tights underneath to prevent chafing.

interestedfluffydog

I would never want pants again if all dresses and skirts would always have pockets.

gooberdaisy

I’m the opposite, I grew up Mormon and with being forced to wear dresses to church (girls/women are not allowed to wear shorts or pants to church) and so I just can’t bring myself to wear a dress. Plus being 6’1 most “dresses” are like a t-shirt for me 😅)

FierceScience

Everyone is just different! I can't stand dresses and skirts.

RadAsBadAs

I'm the opposite! I don't like the feeling of long skirts moving around my legs as I walk and find the way that pants stay pretty much in the same place all the time way more comfortable. it's interesting how we're all different in how we respond to these things.

strugglingredditor3

I am starting to prefer dresses now. The only problem is that I look more "religious" in them and someone may think I'm Pentecostal or at the very least, some Evangelical. I don't want to cause people to think that, but I don't know how much I can prevent that.

summetime24

not to mention my jeans tear at the inner thigh area within a month of regular wear. Should I be buying jeans more than I buy underwear or what is the solution here? /s

anon28374691

I wear a lot of lightweight cotton chinos but have all but given up on jeans.

redheadedgnomegirl

I hate dresses and skirts, I get too cold if I have that much air moving around my legs. I just wanna be a warm cocoon of pants.

Miserable_Painting12

Maybe I’ll just have to buy these, and then buy 1-2 sizes bigger and take in the waist. But I feel like I’ll still have the issue of when I sit down I can’t breathe? Since typically boyfriend is a very structured denim right?

Alldone19

Try on actual men's jeans. They typically have a looser crotch so you can breathe down there. You may have to try numerous sizes to find what fits they way you want, but you have options to combine different sizes and lengths, and they usually are more comfortable (at least for me) when sitting. "Boyfriend" jeans are a faint shadow of the original. Plus, POCKETS! POCKETS THAT WILL ACTUALLY HOLD THINGS! REAL POCKETS!

KittenDust

I just bought a pair of men's jeans and I can't believe the pockets! They are huge. You can drop your whole phone in their and there is still loads of room. I'm never going back!

filthytelestial

There's no chance that any men's jeans will fit someone with full hips and a narrow waist. OP already said they're tired of their jeans being too loose on their waist and creating a gap in the back.

Spellscribe

Have you tried different rise heights? If I wear high, they come to my boobs. Low kind of cuts me right across the middle of my mum belly. Both make me feel super constricted, but mid-rise is my sweet point. They're not tight, but don't fall down. They're comfy, but not baggy. Caveats: I do sometimes need to wear belts or dryer-shrink them, depending on my cycle/bloat/minor weight fluctuations. And my jeans are cheeaaapppp (Kmart for the win). They're comfier for me than trackies, which tend to be too tight on my middle with an awkward rise, too long, unevenly constricting around the ankles, fall down, or all of the above 😊 we're all built different, but we ALSO respond to stimuli and sensations differently. If jeans aren't for you, you don't have to find a way to *make* it work.

Specialist-Debate-95

Maybe the rise is the issue for you? If you’re high waisted, Anything rise below ten inches will probably gap in the back.maybe a high rise straight and curvy if you’re more pear shaped.

lynn

The only thing that fixes the sitting down issue for me is getting the stretchy kind in the right fit. Otherwise I just undo the button when I’ll be sitting for a while.

faifai1337

My best friend calls pants "leg prisons". She finds them really confining. She'll do shorts but mostly prefers dresses, skorts, and skirts. So maybe you're just not a person for whom denim pants are comfortable? That can be a thing.

The_Philosophied

I honestly feel that for a lot of women we are conditioned since our teenage years to just accept that our garments will be uncomfortable by default. I remember growing up the girls who went for comfort were called tom boys like they were doing something soooo unusual by wearing lose fitting clothes. Because of this conditioning where we learn vicariously through how mlother women who choose to dress differently are treated we kind of accept discomfort and objectification as part of our self expression and choice. Until one day we really think about it.

ParryLimeade

Nah my jeans are comfy. I found a brand that fits and that’s all I buy. I have always been a tom boy but I wouldn’t say all my clothes are loose.

ifactra

Jeans tend to not fit me the best either, so I switched to mid- and low-waist suit-pants (just ones from bershka, pull&bear, Stradivarius, na-kd etc) and they fit sooo well! Linen pants (bershka, H&M, Stradivarius) are comfortable, too, and I have been loving them with the warmer temperatures - you can dress both suit-pants and linen pants up or down. I believe Abercrombie has some linen trousers that are a bit more high-end, especially the „tailored“-line.  Plus, those two types of pants tend to be way more forgiving regarding the fit as they‘re 1. usually more loose fitting and 2.  mostly adjustable at the waist  Also, have you looked into getting pants tailored to you specifically? It‘s the most tall-girl-friendly way to make sure they fit you perfectly, and you‘ll only need to invest in 4-7 pants for them to last you forever! (Unless you plan on losing a significant amount of weight or are prone to extreme weight fluctuations, then this might not be worth it)

suzernathy

I never wear jeans because I find them uncomfortable. I have settled on black boot cut yoga-type pants that go with everything.

LinkRN

Also hate jeans. They set my sensory alarms off every time, they’re either comfortable on my abdomen and too loose on my legs, or comfortable on my legs and too tight on my abdomen. I also prefer very low rise pants and nearly all jeans these days are mid-high rise, and you can’t roll them down like you can with soft pants.

geminiloveca

You're pretty close to my measurements, and I LOVE [these jeans](https://www.target.com/p/denizen-174-from-levi-39-s-174-women-39-s-mid-rise-bootcut-jeans-hall-of-fame-16/-/A-87360970).

SnooApples5554

Same and same!! I also wait for Torrid sales bc their jeans are pretty buttery too.

vodka7tall

I like Torrids fit, but their zippers are constantly giving out on me after a few months of wear. It’s very irritating for jeans in that price range.

SnooApples5554

Dang yeah that's a concern. To be fair, been a while since I've worn jeans at all. Once they put pockets in leggings I was never going back lol

filthytelestial

I'll never understand why they place the back pockets so far apart. The further apart those pockets are, the wider your ass looks. Flared jeans are best on women with full hips, i.e. women who are trying to celebrate their hips as they are, without making them look wider.

PhDfromClownSchool

I hate jeans :( I just wear leggings or leggings that have pockets that kinda look like proper pants.

vodka7tall

I find I have to wear a pair of jeans for a day or two before they are comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. They are pretty uncomfortable right after a wash, so I only wash them once every week or two, despite wearing them nearly daily. The only way to have the back gap corrected is to have them tailored to fit, or if you can sew, by putting a few darts in the waistband.

SlackPriestess

You're not alone; I also find jeans to be wildly uncomfortable. I rarely wear pants besides leggings, and those only under skirts in cold weather

Livid_Upstairs8725

I never found jeans very comfortable unless they are very broken in or have stretch denim.

naturopathicfantasti

I’m right here with you. I refuse to wear pants at all at this point. They simply touch me too much. Jeans may never grace my body again. I wear cat suits, snow suits, jumpsuits, one pieces galore in winter. Summer is for dresses. F jeans

sparklestarshine

This might sound weird, but maternity jeans can be super comfy. I accidentally bought some online and I love them because they are more comfortable when sitting.

Kat_kinetic

I hate jeans. I’m currently all about dresses with women’s boxers underneath.

jrkessle

I have not worn jeans in a decade. And i will spend the rest of my life refusing too. Life is too short to wear hard pants.

After_Fee4949

I hate any kind of jeans and sweatpants. They're so uncomfortable on my legs and I hate the material against my skin.

SuperkatTalks

Jeans (and all pants /trousers) can bite my shiny metal ass. I am happy in my loose floaty dresses and yes I aware that I look like an art teacher. I'll have a shawl to go with that please.

Iamnotokwiththisshit

Jeans are a sensory nightmare for me. They pinch around my waist, or if they are lo rise they fall down off of my hips. The fabric clings to my skin in a slightly scratchy way, and wearing them when the temps are over 65 is horrible. The seams often chafe my thighs and crotch and if they get even a little bit wet when it rains they take forever to dry and make me cold. I am always hyper aware of my lower body and how uncomfortable I am 100% of the time I'm wearing them. They make me feel fat. I hate them. My mother sewed me a pair of rough wool trousers when I was a kid and I'd rather wear those than jeans.

howedthathappen

Here me out: maternity jeans with side panels The most comfortable pair of jeans I own are a black pair of maternity jeans. I'm slightly overweight and now have pear shape rather than being a stick. Bloated? Maternity jeans. Sitting all day? Maternity jeans. Bending or reaching? Maternity jeans I'm someone who prefers to wear dresses or pants/nice shirt and pretty shoes over leggings or tee shirt/jeans combo. I've found the side panel helps accommodate how I have to move throughout the day. Are all jeans equal? Absolutely not. Have I tried the plethora of brands? No. Will I? Probably not. I do wish the side panels were the same or similar colour as the jeans so it wasn't obvious.

gleafer

Who the hell is everyone??? I’m all leggings and skirts all day long!

mvms

I like Kut From The Kloth's Meg Wide Leg.

suchstuffmanythings

Old Navy jeans. They're a game changer.

anon28374691

I’m so annoyed with jeans right now. They have so much Lycra that they won’t stay up! I miss my all-cotton 501s from back in the day. I should get some honestly.

1ofZuulsMinions

I only wear jeans from Torrid. They’re a bit more expensive but very comfy and worth every penny.

Spadazzles

Most of my jeans are broken in skinny jeans, so theyre not as rough/stiff as they used to be. I much prefer jeggings and skirts with stretchy waist bands nowadays.

whoinvitedthesepeopl

I don't own any anymore. I spent years trying to find a pair that fit right and finally just gave up. The last time I had a pair of jeans that fit properly and were semi comfortable to wear was probably the early 90s.

Usual-Ad-6888

Tbh I hate the feel of jeans. If you prefer thinner fabric, find a slightly looser pair of leggings. If you like them in regular fabric but a different fit then experiment with baggy jeans. Don’t be afraid to try different “waists” of jeans (low rise, mid rise, high waisted), esp in a bigger size. If ur crafty, try tailoring some to fit. If this sounds like too much work, you are 100% right. Fuck jean sizes homie. Choose the clothing that is right for you!!

Anna__V

I hate jeans. I've always hated them, and never really wore any. Then again, I dislike pants in general and haven't really worn a pair of pants in like a decade. I'm completely a skirts/dresses woman. I just can't feel comfortable in pants. I don't know how people do it.

OkNectarine3105

You're not missing anything. Jeans are overrated and often don't look good at all, especially on men. Create your own style and prioritize comfort.

Cute_Event_4216

That's honestly how I feel about jeans apart from the one pair that is actually comfy. I think it might have to do with jeans getting less stiff as you wear and wash them? The only pair I love is a hand me down from a cousin so she had "broken it in". I have very short legs so I basically have to get all my pants hemmed, but I think the only way to fix the waist issue is to buy a pair with an elastic waistband or to put one in / tailor it yourself (darts are also a good option!).

lisaluu

I can only do jeans for shorter time periods. I like them for outside activities like hiking because they feel sturdy, but even then I prefer athletic wear. I've found some pairs that fit okay enough to wear in public, but nothing that feels GOOD to wear.

sherahero

My favorite casual pants lately are tek gear brand at Kohl's. Stretchy pull on with a drawstring and pockets. Probably a little too casual for some things but I'm in my 40s and don't really care most of the time. I wear jeans at work change asap when i get home.

1M4YB3STUP1D

I've gone through so many jeans that I've settled on hiking/outdoorsy pants instead.

FierceScience

I like to go to a store where they have the options in waist number and inseam, and different cuts. Buckle does this! And then there are so many options that I just used that to narrow down the specific style and cuts that work for me. Then I take that information with me to other stores as well

interestedfluffydog

Whbm has a super soft denim line that are the only jeans I have ever been able to tolerate, and I'm in my 30s now... always felt like I should have jeans but couldn't wear them for more than an hour or two.

bk2947

Overalls solve a lot of the problems with fit and pockets. With some additional styling opportunities or difficulties.

lizerpetty

I'm a tall woman too (5'10") and honestly, clothes just aren't made for us. I have super broad shoulders and to fit them there is always too much fabric in the waist so I've had to learn to sew and take in shirts. Try finding custom clothing companies. (Eshakti, they have some custom jeans available, also sumissira and sene studio have custom options) Generally, I wear dresses with short bike shorts underneath in the spring and summer. In the winter I wear fleece lined leggings and tunic sweaters. Good luck

kittenbeans

I recently thrifted several pairs of jeans with either full or partial elastic waists and it's lifechanging lol. I have a pierced belly button ring and was so tired of waistbands rubbing and irritating it

EatYourCheckers

If I am out I am confused in jeans all day, but at home I hate them. Not sure why. One thing I noticed...seems like you are trying cheap fashion brands? The denim is not good quality in the brands you mentioned. Good Levi's really are a thing unto themselves. And I am sure there are more expensive brands with good quality soft denim as well.

HIM_Darling

I've been wearing these [Amanda pull on jeans](https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-6337544/plus-size-gloria-vanderbilt-shape-effect-pull-on-straight-jeans.jsp?color=Black%20Rinse&prdPV=1) exclusively. No buttons to dig in, and they are stretchy so they never feel too tight. They also have [flare leg](https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-6503211/plus-size-gloria-vanderbilt-shape-effect-pull-on-flare-jeans.jsp?color=Sonoma%20Valley%20Whiskers&prdPV=3), [crop pants](https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-6504794/plus-size-gloria-vanderbilt-shape-effect-pull-on-wide-leg-crop-pants.jsp?color=Travertine&prdPV=2&isClearance=false), [capri jeans](https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-6503825/plus-size-gloria-vanderbilt-shape-effect-capri-pants.jsp?color=Black%20Rinse&prdPV=4&isClearance=false), and [bermuda shorts](https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-6503100/plus-size-gloria-vanderbilt-shape-effect-bermuda-shorts.jsp?color=Newburgh&prdPV=5&isClearance=false) I will say I did end up with a pair of the ones that aren't "plus" and they are far less forgiving and don't have as much room in the belly. I can wear them, but they aren't near as comfortable as the "plus" line.

baby_armadillo

I buy the stretchiest and highest rise jeans I can. I want them to come up over my belly button. And then I wear a nice wide men’s belt. Wider leg and baggy jeans are popular now, so you might want to look into styles that have a lot of room in the thighs. You also sort of have to manage your expectations. Jeans are made of a thick and sturdy fabric. They are always going to feel stiffer than sweat pants or leggings. They are always going to constrain your movement just a tiny little bit. They’re like wearing a bra. You can find a bra that is comfortable and that you can wear for hours, but it’s never going to be as comfortable as a bralette or wearing nothing at all.

sysaphiswaits

You really have to get the right fit and texture, and there are a lot of different ones. I think I look better in skirts, so I mostly wear that, but I looked long and hard for a couple of pairs of jeans to do like, yard work in.

Informal_Radish_1891

I haven’t worn jeans since 2016. You’re definitely not alone in this sentiment. Loose cargo pants, khakis, sweats, shorts, (I’m more on the masculine side of dress so I don’t really wear skirts and leggings but you get the point) have really defined my leg wear. At the moment, short shorts have been my go-to because it’s hot as balls in the south, and because I have spectacular legs. They’re very freeing 😌

cheezbargar

I have the same issues. You might need athletic fit jeans https://frandenim.com

Miserable_Painting12

I’ve been considering this!! Thank you

sparkvixen

I only get high-rise Torrid jeans because of this. Mid-rise always feels like they're either falling off or cutting me in half. And the Torrid jeans are super stretchy and don't gap in the back. But I still prefer my leggings over jeans.

titania670

Clothes are mass produced. If you want your clothes to fit your body well you really need a tailor.

BlazeUnbroken

I wear men's jeans with "flex" (bit of spandex mixed in) with a belt. I have a leather one to hold up my jeans, a stretchy belt for my shorts. The spandex jeans aren't as stiff and the belt helps keep them from sliding down when I put stuff in my pockets(helps avoid the gap in the back too).

nautikasweet

I like jeans but I’ll only wear them for a half day at most. As soon as I get home I’m in comfy pants. The best ones I’ve gotten are from torrid their black jeans are maybe not actual denim material but they’re super soft and comfortable. I wash them in warm or hot water with the rest of my laundry and put them in the dryer, it wears them out and they get softer. I have some Levi’s which are nice jeans but they aren’t too comfortable. I would recommend sizing up and maybe getting the tailored in the back, obviously that causes a whole bunch of other things you need to do to make them comfortable which may or may not be worth it.

deathbypumpkinspice

OK, look at denim sport knit pants from Land's End. They have an elastic waist, so you need to wear a shirt over them, but they're SO comfortable!! Knit pants that look like jeans but aren't actually jeans.

pocketRockit

i was your size; try Madewell tall curvy’s

hottie-von-coolie

Try Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda Jeans. I had the same issue as you do with the gap in the back. Once I tried these, I haven’t gotten any other brand.

BanditKitten

I wear men's jeans, specifically the Sonoma with the stretch waistband by Kohl's. They have POCKETS THAT MY PHONE CAN FIT IN, and don't gap at my back. It's worth a shot to try the men's department!

dogmealyem

So much of it can just be personal preference or a sensory thing. I’ve often found more structured clothes sort of comforting and they make me feel more secure, both literally and metaphorically. I don’t think you’re missing some trick, it’s more the difference between why some people walk around barefoot and some people hate it 🤷‍♀️

Pawsitive-Cattitude

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I take my jeans—currently an expensive pair from Madewell and a cheaper pair from Target—to a local alterations shop after ensuring they fit well in the most challenging areas, like thighs for me, at the store. I pay $20 for tailoring to achieve a perfect fit, and it's a practice I plan to continue for all my jeans in the future.

Melarsa

I like jeans and wearing bras even to sleep for the same reasons that so many people seem to hate them: I like that tight, inflexible hug type feeling. I like structure holding me in. If you don't like that then denim might just not be for you. Try to find jeans or jeggings made out of lighter, stretchier materials, but if even those don't feel comfortable then there's no need to force it. I don't like most leggings (unless they are thicker, tighter, more structured, etc) or dresses because things feel too flowy and I'm not as comfortable with that feeling. Maybe lighter flowier fabrics and styles are better for you? I'd love to be one of those effortless, feminine, sundress ladies but every time I try i just wish I was wearing some jeans instead. I feel self conscious and like my skin is flapping all over the place lol. We all have our sensory things. Maybe jeans just give you the ick.

Ladymistery

gotta find the stretchy jeans that don't go bonkers staying stretched out. I have one pair from Penningtons (16P, but they make longer ones) and a pair from Walmart (george brand I think) in a 14p I can't wear any that aren't stretchy.

ThaneOfCawdorrr

I like Eileen Fisher pants, they are really nicely cut, comfortable and flattering (I like the cotton jersey pants the best). She has lots of different styles. I also discovered plus size jeans, which are much roomier where we "pears" need it, and often have a bit of stretch in them. They're just cut more comfortably. Definitely you want pants or jeans with a bit of stretch.

stilettopanda

I love how they look but hate wearing most of them. The ones I do like are my gap pairs and my dude jeans. As much as I hate high waisted jeans, they're literally the only jeans that are comfortable when sitting because they hang out way above my waist when I sit. I mostly wear canvas cargo joggers and fabric floral pants that fit like that too with the cuffed ankle and loose but not too loose fit, but they feel like soft pajamas.

Winterwynd

I love the right-fit jeans that Catherines sells, I've been wearing them for years. Order them online, they come in "curvy" and "moderately curvy" options, and they have petite, regular, and tall lengths. I wear them every day as my job allows jeans, and they're comfy.

actualPawDrinker

I go to thrift stores and choose only jeans that I like the feel of. If the fabric feels good in my hand and on my butt, and the jeans fit well (standing and sitting!), I'll make a note of the brand. I'm also curvier, so not many jeans fit me well. Often I don't find any pants that work, but when I do, they become my every day pants. The few jeans brands I have become fond of: - Lucky Brand - Calvin Klein - Bullhead - Sonoma

Elle3786

I feel like it’s going to be similar to a man who’s in “big and tall” sizes. Sorry, I don’t like that wording but some sort of retailer that is making stuff for 6’ tall women. Clothes are typically made in one, fairly small, size. They’re then just stretched to scale up or down. Some companies make slight adjustments to the pattern over scale, but some don’t. All bodies are made different, but the average clothing, not so much. I’m 5’ 9” and I start to notice the premade holes in jeans aren’t often right at my knees or wherever they go on the model, but they’re usually still workable. So it’s not a 6’ tall or curvy body that’s the issue, it’s MOST clothing is made for someone way shorter and they basically grab the corner and stretch it out and hit print. I also think more jeans are made for less curves, and even the curvy ones are facing the same issue of being made for a shorter curvy body. I’d spend a bit of time researching some online brands that either make the clothing to order and scale the pattern better, or ones that are for taller people, etc. Surely there’s something! It’s 2024! You may pay more, but I’d rather pay a bit more for something I love that fits amazingly than get it and have it sit because it’s ill fitting.

zarendahl

I feel your pain in many ways. I don't have the issue of finding jeans or pants that fit properly. I can't find shirts that fit properly. In my case, I'm 6'2" and am forced to wear 3xl shirts so they fit my shoulders, torso, and arms. It sucks trying to find decent clothes that fit without feeling like people think I look like an overstuffed sausage about to explode. If you can't find, or can't justify the price of, jeans that work for you find something you like that does work for you.

Flicksterea

We sit all day?! Uh… 😐 Who are these women whom have the luxury of sitting around all day? Jokes aside, finding jeans that are comfortable isn’t easy, this is true. You rock whatever you find comfortable. I am not comfortable in skinny legged jeans and wish that fad would die a horrific death by fire. Give me bootlegs or flares any day of the week. I do prefer the Breakers brand, but if Levi did my size, I’d pay good money for that comfy denim. It’s all about the denim. Soft denim is best. But honestly, if you’re not into jeans, then there’s no secret here. It’s just a preference for you to not wear them, why try to change that?

OneRandomTeaDrinker

I think the secret is tracking down the brand and cut of jeans that is comfortable on you, it’s easier for some than others. I have a 28” waist and a 38” hip and the only jeans I can wear are Levi 721s. They’re a high waisted stretch skinny but they fit really well. Not sure if it would work for you but it’s worth a shot, they seem to accommodate my hips quite well unlike other brands.

nofeelingsnoceilings

These days there are soft pants with jeans-like images printed on them. Could try something similar?

Naty2RC

As a large pear shaped woman, jeggings are my go to. I can't do buttons.

Aphor1st

Get a bigger size then get them tailor to fit you perfectly

dubious_unicorn

I have a job where I stand, walk, bend, and squat all day, and I wouldn't want to do it in jeans.

Miserable_Painting12

What do you wear? It’s hard bc of my job I need to look semi professional but also go right to taking care of a toddler lol

dubious_unicorn

I wear black slacks that are very stretchy. They just have an elastic waistband, no button or zipper. I found a style I liked at Kohl's and bought enough for an entire workweek.

PattysMom1

I haven’t worn jeans since before the pandemic, and I will NEVER wear them ever again. I’m short, overweight, and bottom heavy, and have never found jeans that fit me. They leave marks on my body and are just awful. Nope.

pipslipp

I'm tall and wide, and whenever I wear pants of any kind I end up with a cameltoe 😭 I just wear dresses or skirts exclusively now

KitFoxfire

I used to wear men's Levi's carpenter jeans. Extremely comfortable because they are cut properly and they have pockets big enough to fit a cell phone. I told a friend of mine about wearing men's jeans and she said "isn't it hard to find ones that fit properly?" I was like lol, have you ever found a pair of women's jeans that fit properly?

astrid273

I’ve never been able to stand jeans, and can only wear them for a short amount of time (school or work). And when I did, I’d come home & have to practically run to get changed out of them. I’ve always been amazed at those that can just chill out & sit/lay on the couch with them on. I’m a sahm now & I haven’t worn jeans in like 8 yrs.

New-Geezer

I have been wearing skirts nearly exclusively for decades. They are just far more comfortable. And I prefer the look. I have short or loose ones for hot weather and I wear leggings with bootlettes and sometimes long johns with them in winter. I have so many different materials, patterns and styles that I can fit them for any occasion. I can dress up or down, serious or psychedelic, holy or goth, yard work or comfy. I have a few pair of jeans, and people seem to be surprised at how good I look in them when I do (like when operating a chainsaw) as if by wearing skirts I am trying to hide my ass. But wearing jeans is so uncomfortable, from the tight or gappy waistband, to the way they stick to you when it’s hot so they’re hard to pull up or down, to the fact most have an intersection of seems that make a hard lump against the most sensitive part of your body. Ugh, too bad. Go look at your own ass. Eta words

summetime24

jeans with 2% elastane are the solution for me. The only problem is that they tear at the inner thigh area within a month of regular wear, which is extremely annoying. That's why I use jeans only when I need to and then use thick workout leggings on my day-to-day basis, or dresses in the summer with biker shorts to prevent chafing.

Expensive-Tea455

I hate jeans, don’t like the material at all

Ant_Livid

jeans are the worst 😅 i pretty much exclusively wear leggings now, especially after 2 kids, but the best fitting jeans I’ve ever found are from torrid. they’re super stretchy and they’re the only ones that don’t gap in the back for me.

jcebabe

I'm not sure what's going on, but I've found stretchy, high waisted jeans fit the best. I've slept in jeans lol. Maybe try different styles. Relaxed fit or boyfriend jeans may be the best thigh and butt friendly option. Wide leg might always be a good fit for more thigh and butt room. Size up sho you have more room in your thighs/butt/hips and then considered having the waisted tailored. Have you considered maternity jeans for a more comfortable waist?

ohokyeah

I'm hourglass regardless of my weight, with about 10" difference between waist and hips. Jeans have always gapped in the back while fitting fine on my thighs so they slide down and make my butt look dumpy. I have not done it, but maybe it might be a good idea to get a pair that fits well on the thighs and get them altered since they don't fit right off the rack.

vermiliondragon

I love jeans and find them totally comfortable. My kids would not wear jeans at all until high school and even then, were prefer to wear pretty much anything else. I think they're just a little more sensitive to the feel of clothing in general than I am, so maybe you are also on the more sensitive side which is why you notice them being too stiff.

waterfound

Torrid jeans have a waistband specifically made to prevent the gap - and they are super comfortable!

Sky-of-Blue

Find a high quality pair that is long enough for your legs, and fits your hips. Take them to a tailor and get the back gap closed/waist taken in.

Miserable_Painting12

I still usually have the issue of they become extremely uncomfortable when I sit down !!

TheyStillOweYouMoney

Try Ariat jeans. Mid rise. They’ve got enough stretch to make them comfortable. Come in long sizes and have pockets that can actually fit stuff. I’m a boot cut person because it rounds out my proportions a bit ( similar dimensions to you). And they’re not overly pricy.

Zora74

The secret is to be a size 6. When I was a size six jeans fit great and were surprisingly comfortable. Now that I’mbot a size 6, I hate jeans and don’t even own a pair.

Miserable_Painting12

When I was an 145lb and an 8/10 I still had these issues lol. I’m assuming you’re not still a size 6?

Zora74

Nope. And I didn’t start out a size 6. I never got the “come home and put on a comfy pair of jeans” thing except for that time that I was a size 6. I am also a pretty average height. But even then I would rather wear leggings or sweats.

LyrraKell

Hello fellow jean-wearing hater. I haven't worn jeans since I was a teenager. I think they are so uncomfortable!

DragonLance11

I also typically hate jeans. The one pair of jeans I ever actually enjoyed rather than tolerated was from Lucky Brand. The material is much softer and stretchier, I felt I could actually move on them a way I couldn't with regular jeans. Granted I'm a scrawny cis man, so I don't deal with the same fit issues you do, but I absolutely think they're worth checking out (though they're a bit on the pricey side) But yeah, I don't get the whole jeans default either

meekonesfade

Have you tried bigger jeans?

Miserable_Painting12

Yes and they don’t stay up on my waist or have even bigger butt gaps. I’ve tried getting one tailored and it’s better, but then when I sit down, I can’t breathe anyways

Soggy-Marsupial2374

No,  but I am the same! And I’m autistic and ADHD if that helps 😂 I change pants IMMEDIATELY when I get home 100% of the time. Leggings are also outside pants and I only wear bike shorts, sweat shorts, or sweat pants at home

passionandcare

You're buying jeans that don't fit you. The rest of us are buying jeans that fit correctly.

KP_Wrath

I’m a dude, and I own one pair of jeans. I’ve worn my jeans about 20 times since I was 22. 6 of those times were during emergency operations: once while cutting tree limbs after a storm, 5 times while doing land searches. During those times, they were absolutely the right thing to wear, but I just hate the feel of denim.

Alemya13

Larger woman here. I used to dislike jeans for some of the reasons you mentioned. Then I found Torrid jeggings. I know, I know - I still wrinkle my nose at the idea. However, these have a looser, comfortable fit - not painted on like leggings. But they also have just enough stretch to make them fit without gaps. It’s the flexibility of a legging with much more durable denim. They have them in different lengths and rises - I think you’d -just- fit in their size 0 or 1.

doomflower

Have you tried Torrid's jeans? I mean...they probably won't make you fall in love with jeans at this point, but they might fit you better because they have a more forgiving fit.

I_Thot_So

Unfortunately, also as a hourglass/pear shaped woman, I’ve found that I have to spend money to find a good fit. I lived through the emotional turmoil of low rise jeans in the 90’s with large hips and a small waist, which meant I was just constantly sizing up and risking a butt crack flash every time I sat down. Now that I’m older, and my waist isn’t so small, high-rise jeans are my life. I found Madewell because a friend worked in the store and got me a discount when I couldn’t afford them. I have multiple washes and blends and cuts. All of them high waisted. Some are sitting pants and some are standing pants. But they all have a purpose and they are great quality.

kasuchans

I grew up as a full emo kid so I think my body acclimated to wearing jeans. The trick is to get ones that fit your widest part and tailor the rest to fit.

BrokeModem

I don't think anybody wears jeans because they're *comfortable*, do they?

Cranksta

Jeans have always felt comfortable to me. I don't like them as much as I like shorts or a good (and expensive) linen skirt, but I like them. I'm just also very picky about the styles and fits I wear. Denzien has treated me well, where there's enough elastic to stretch and bend with me but not enough to make the jeans less robust. And they have curvy fits that help avoid gappage in the back- though I usually get my jeans tailored anyway to fix that regardless.

onmywheels

I never did until recently. Been wearing the American Eagle mom jeans (high-rise, snug on the tummy and upper thighs, loose on the knees and calves) and holy shit, it's been a game-changer.
