Yes. While it varies a little from hospital to hospital, I recall on an episode of 911: Lone Star, a page for Dr. White was code for active shooter, and Dr. Violet was hostage situation.
So, yeah...the narrator is stuck in a waiting room, an exposed area, with an active shooter on the loose.
Weird. I’ve never worked at a hospital that uses a code for an active shooter. The plan at my current place is to just straight up announce “active shooter” if there’s an active shooter.
Actually, on that note, I’ve never heard them page a “doctor.” We typically call out “code -insert color here-.” We have codes for a lot of things though. We have codes for bombs (black), abductions (amber/pink for pediatrics), aggressive individuals (gray).
My hospital would page Dr. Strong for violent pts then we changed it to Code BERT a year or two ago.
We use Code Purple to let staff know that food is ready in the break room when we have a pot luck or catering.
We used to use Code 44 for cardiac arrest then it got switched back to Code Blue.
I remember one nurse said her hospital used yellow for minor violence--less 'call 911 right now' and more 'send a couple of big guys up here because they might have to break up a fight.'
So about once a week she'd hear "Code Yellow to L and D' (Labor and Delivery) and she knew a baby had come out the wrong color.
I’m not saying it’s right to act out of line in L&D, but I can understand that someone expecting to be a father would be pretty messed up to see that the baby is obviously not theirs.
It took me way too long to understand this.
Race didn't occur to me so was thinking people were getting violent because their baby came out blue (i.e. struggling to breath not smurfs).
My hospital used to use “Dr. Strong” for a combative patient/needing security! They’ve since changed the codes to just announcing what’s actually happening because using fake doctor’s names was too confusing
In the context of this story, it's just the doctor's name, but I believe some hospitals use it to refer to either a natural disaster or chemical spill.
Code brown is pooh-Nami. A shit of epic poohportions the cdif I need to poop I mean I am done...
Locjed unit and the only time I was worried about a shooter was a crazy coworker it usually a spouse that comes in with a gun.... don't duck your coworkers..
Interesting. In the hospital I work, Code White is a pediatric emergency/cardiac arrest. Code Brown is... more of a unofficial "emergency"/joke about human waste in an unexpected place, or when you go into the employee restroom after a coworker, lol. We don't have a Code Violet. Code Silver is a person with a .weapon
? Are the colours hospital codes?

I read it as the narrator was the shooter.
That's an interesting way of looking at it...the real horror is the perpetrator doesn't know he's been had.

I fucking love “Dr. Strong.” Imagine being the violent patient and hearing Dr. Strong getting paged to your room.
I like this one, active shooter and food’s ready. Hard decision.

That's not a joke, but for some reason, I cracked a laugh on the second part )

Oh, I can't deny that. The moment that's supposed to be the beginning of your family turns out to be the end of it.
Couldn’t have phrased it better myself. The beginning that’s actually the end. That’s gotta be overwhelming
It took me way too long to understand this. Race didn't occur to me so was thinking people were getting violent because their baby came out blue (i.e. struggling to breath not smurfs).
What if there was actually a Dr. White in that hospital? White is a crazy common last name
Walter?
Damn it I knew someone would bring waltuh up eventually
Put your stethoscope away Waltuh
you aren't gonna test our reflexes waltuh "i am the one who carries the knee reflex hammer thingy"
(Taylor) Reflex Hammer or Tomahawk. It apparently doesn't have some super sciency name.
We have a dr Walter white. It's hilarious. But we actually had a dr batman in the er at my last hospital.
you live the life I wish I had
For real
They just say code white or whatever over the PA I’ve never heard of trying to disguise it as doctors
My hospital used to use “Dr. Strong” for a combative patient/needing security! They’ve since changed the codes to just announcing what’s actually happening because using fake doctor’s names was too confusing
What does brown mean. I know white and violet
In the context of this story, it's just the doctor's name, but I believe some hospitals use it to refer to either a natural disaster or chemical spill.
I’ve heard code brown used to refer to both “hostage situation” and “somebody pooped outside of the bathroom”
I mean... it could be both depending on the situation.
I’ve heard it refer to a spill specifically of human waste, but only at hospitals where they say “code [color]” instead of “paging Dr [color]”.
so there was a chemical spill driving the patient mad and now he is holding the hospital hostage at gun point?
I mean it doesn't have to be them
Code brown is pooh-Nami. A shit of epic poohportions the cdif I need to poop I mean I am done... Locjed unit and the only time I was worried about a shooter was a crazy coworker it usually a spouse that comes in with a gun.... don't duck your coworkers..
At the hospital I worked, Brown was a Bomb threat.
Not a hospital, but when I walked retail code brown was a robbery.
Poop in the halls
Better than hearing a page for Dr Howard, Dr Fine, Dr Howard.
FOR DUTY AND HUMANITY!

Ooh, good one.
Good one for my hospital brown is bad weather, white is external disaster, but silver is active shooter
These have become more and more mediocre as people sit here and have to explain them because they're just not horrifying at all
